Season 36, Round 16.

August the 6th, 2023 saw the opening of the 36th season of Sweet F.A, and it’s been an adventure since with threads spammed, games won, drama unfolded and plenty of penalty points given way.

Now, to stay in the hunt for the premiership, teams must Qooty to Survive.

The Baghdad Bombers sat back and relaxed in the opening round of the season while the Old Boys broke Sweet F.A laws, but the leadership group understood that it would be a long time until they had another break.

The Rise:

The Badghad Bombers opening match arrived in the second week where they accounted for the Sin City Swamprats by 29 points but it was round three where onlookers had their first glimpse of what the Bombers could truly become in season 36.
Once the goals started in their second round matchup against the Mount Buller Demons they did not stop until they were 77 point winners. gab213 stood out as a force that defenders will need to put work into with a nine goal haul as they started to look towards the FRED medal being a real possibility.
The Baghdad-based side were brought back to earth in the third round as they fell to the Furies but a five goal haul from YeoGabbaGabba had them bounce back a week later with a 55-point win against the now ladder leading Gumbies.

The Fall:

The season started to look like it was coming together nicely for the Baghdad Bombers as they had not only the best percentages in the league but also sat on top of the ladder going into round six, but that’s where it fell apart.
Consecutive losses to the Phoenix, the Bears, the Roys, and the Warriors all of a sudden had them sitting right on the edge of finals qualification. They needed to find something to lift them to finals in season 36.

A New Leader:

Jabba73 put together a pitch to become the league’s next admin during this time and had the full support of their team, but it wasn’t going to be enough to put his name at the top of the league.
Jabba toured around the municipality of sweet pitching the landscape of the future of the Sweet F.A, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be, Elton Johns Wig beat Jabba over the line and will have to face the music in round 16 when their teams go up against each other.

The Bounce Back:

Round 10 saw the Bombers find a win against the Ophidian Old Boys with a 24 disposal game from SaintsSeptember crucial in keeping their team above water and two more wins against the West Coast Wonders and Gold City Royals had the Bombers truly floating assisted by the buoyancy of The Sultan and norway blue ’s consistent performances.
Finals began to look more and more likely before a close loss to the Dragon’s was enough to dampen their confidence.
As Pugsley led his side out in round 14 against the Phoenix, they knew what they needed to do. They needed to win and secure their place in the finals, and they did just that as their captain put in a true captains game to drag them to yet another finals berth.

Today:

Baghdad find themselves sitting fourth and can not fall outside of finals contention but will need to beat the Old Boys to secure them a home qualifying final, but a loss to the current wooden spoon side could mean that they will be sent to a sudden death elimination final next week.

Statistic Leaders:
Hit Outs: The Sultan (176)
Kicks: SaintsSeptember (152)
Handballs: The Sultan, sunny3193 (145)
Marks: sunny3193 (66)
Tackles: norway blue (74)
Goals: gab213 (39.25)
Dream Team: The Sultan (1089)

OldBoys.png

A season of drama, incompetence, but entertainment from the Ophidian Old Boys as they went from heroes to zeros in the matter of a season.
Off the back of a premiership in just their second season, they were looking to go back-to-back.

The Beginning of the End:

The first stab to the hopes of a back-to-back victory happened before their first game was even played. Three strikes relating to team sheet mistakes led to a two point deduction and sticking them to the bottom of the standings and a 27-point loss to the East Side Phoenix in the opening round didn’t help them with getting off the bottom.

Their opening round loss angered the dragons of the Sweet F.A and they climbed out of their slumberous mountain to stick them to the bottom of the standings further with another negative four points to their name.

Climbing Back Up The Mountain:

With their captain thrown to the crocodiles, the Old Boys had to do the climb without their leader and it started off rather well with an 18-point win against the Demons in the second round with Mrs Turbo and Robertio joining forces to kick four goals each and get them over the line.
Wins in Rounds three and four followed against the Roys and the Gumbies. This had them sitting on three wins and finally off the bottom of the ladder, and just so the sting of mismanagement goes further, it would have had them sitting in second place, but instead they were found in ninth.

A Slippery Slope:

Just as the Old Boys were finding their feet again, a slippery fall off of form saw the Spotswood team tumbling back down with five of their next six matches suffering losses. The one upside of those six matches was a convincing win in a grand final rematch against the West Coast Wonders to the tune of 44 points.
During this time the sky opened up and made the slope even more slippery as more mismanagement led to four more points getting thrown in the grinder and sticking them to the bottom of the ladder, yet again.
Round 12 and 13 saw the Old Boys back to their season 35 best with a 51 point win against the Fighting Furies and a massive 92 point win against the Coney Island Warriors, which saw Iva Bigun kick six majors to stamp the seal.

Today:

The Old Boys are the only team that can not make finals, even with a doubleheader this week. They can however find their way off the bottom of the ladder if they win both their matches and other results go their way.

Statistic Leaders:
Hit Outs: Mrs Turbo (91)
Kicks: Braklet (123)
Handballs: U2tigers (122)
Marks: kenneyswarriors (59)
Tackles: Fleabane, Braklet (53)
Goals: Bonz (41.17)
Dream Team: Mrs Turbo (875)

Dearest Kennedy Parker,

Please see attached match thread and please unlock the other one so I can edit it back accordingly.

Always appreciate your clear communication in these matters and appreciated the message when you locked the thread and didn't explain anything.

I'm glad I assisted the league in these match posts

Cheers AUR.

My apologies Tigerturbulance, something that all three parties agreed on and that never got denied, not even by the admin until it happened, has not happened. I wish you luck in the double match threads.

Has it been explained why we're not having a mega thread?

Seems dumb not to have it.

Bombers didn't want them at the start of the season, no formal request, no admin clearance, a west coast wonders player went rouge and did the mega thread himself.

We're battling the Furries for the wooden spoon! From Premiers to spooners in back to back seasons, such a rare event. (Srsly, Hate confirmed only twice in the entire SFA history.)

Hiya Bombres, too bad we couldn't all have one big party, eh?

I posted this over in our Wonders thread, but like it so much I'll share it here. Seems to be right up the Bombers' alley, in any case.

Me, looking at too many Pugsley GIFs...
