Off the bat, I want to make it clear this is not a troll thread and not intended to infuriate anyone. I found Neeld's comment about a second rebuild interesting. With the exception of Scully, have the Dees lost any of their other high draft picks in the last five years? I'm just trying to work out how a rebuild can fail so dramatically.

Not sure if this thread will last after a mod sees it but we have lost

Morton
Cook
Gysberts
Plus Maric (21)
As first round picks in the last few years
Plus we have yet to have significant out put from Strauss and blease due to freak injuries as also first round picks

Also Tapscott has had a lot of minor injuries throughout his career

Hip injury (stupid sprinkler - again) was more than minor

Set Tappy back a couple of years

The reality is, we recruited so many wrong players over the last few years with high draft picks

Morton was a consensus high draft pick, but at the same time he was drafted - the game was changing to much bigger bodied teams. He is just incapable of bulking up

Cook was a surprise at 12 - and a monumental waste of a pick 12

Gysberts, again a surprise at 11, started strong and looked good initally - but again, weight was a major issue. Just doesn't seem to have the body to be able to build up

Our biggest problem is 2000 - 2005 drafts where we should have a number of experienced senior players leading the way.

There are virtually none left. From this era of drafting I think we have 3 players left. Jones, Sylvia and Dunn

Compare it to Geelong (the benchmark of the last 5+ years)

They still have Josh Hunt, Bartel, Kelly, Stevie J, Mackie, Loneragan, Varcoe

Lets add in 1999 as well. From '99 we have left no one

They have left Joel Corey, Paul Chapman, Corey Enright (they also got Mooney and Ling in that draft who have only recently retired).

They did it so well, they set themselves up right then and then (between 1999 - 2001) for a period of domination.

We pissed it away.

They still have a strong core of these senior players from the early 2000's (and '99) drafts that have been able to usher the new kids through, with their ethic and their culture.

We haven't

THe issue is, on top of this, is that the senior players we did retire off (White, Yze, Bruce, Robbo etc.) were all selfish footballers who seemed to carry the Hollywood Boulevard tradition through and from the outside didn't seem to usher the kids through either

We've just drafted so badly that we're in the hole we are in now

This dates back much further than Neeld, and much further than Bailey.......
