I reckon if you scanned the other team boards you'd find a number of them have 'fadeout' threads. I know Geelong has one.
Port has faded out twice this season, Geelong, Dogs, Essendon have all faded out this season despite establishing commanding leads. Some of them have ended up losses.
Unless there is a massive gulf in quality between clubs (say, Carlton vs everyone) the days of controlling a game from start to finish are over. Teams are too fit, too well drilled, too well coached to simply give up. Professionalism turns a demoralising 60 point deficit at half time into the idea that if you score 4 goals in the opening 10 minutes of each quarter, then control the second half each quarter, you can be within striking distance with five minutes to play. The opposition will continue looking for an edge, no matter what your lead is.
