Opinion Second half fadeouts: Problem or Ploy?

I reckon if you scanned the other team boards you'd find a number of them have 'fadeout' threads. I know Geelong has one.

Port has faded out twice this season, Geelong, Dogs, Essendon have all faded out this season despite establishing commanding leads. Some of them have ended up losses.

Unless there is a massive gulf in quality between clubs (say, Carlton vs everyone) the days of controlling a game from start to finish are over. Teams are too fit, too well drilled, too well coached to simply give up. Professionalism turns a demoralising 60 point deficit at half time into the idea that if you score 4 goals in the opening 10 minutes of each quarter, then control the second half each quarter, you can be within striking distance with five minutes to play. The opposition will continue looking for an edge, no matter what your lead is.

Interesting to hear on the weekly 6pr interview, Ross never ruled out that we are purposely lifting off the pedal….Mentioning things we already noticed such as changing the way we play, keeping the midfielders on longer (thus they are tired and look slower) and natural attrition for playing at a high pace for most parts of the game (realistically we should have been ~100points by 3quarter time). For the most part, it seems that RTB isn’t worried the slightest.

I think it's neither. It's a result of us changing our structures/personnel as practice for a worst case scenario. Almost every position on the field can be played by two people on any given day. Our big leads have enabled us to practice this in real match conditions. It's brilliant. Think of the the players in our 22, they've nearly all played two different positions this year at some time. Examples, Fyfe= mid/for, Mayne=for/back, Suban= hf/mid, Mundy= hb/mid/for(?). Our starting 18 is still better than this 'swing team' but practice makes perfect.

We are facing a long season, and there is no point in hitting peak form in May. You need to time the run and hit peak form right at the end of the season. I believe we are looking to cruise at this point in the season and will gradually accelerate in the second half of the season.

David King just presented visual evidence of Freo last qtr strategy.
It includes defenders allowing opponents to clear away from them in the F50 in the corridor. In fact one example had a Freo defender run in the opposite direction to the loose opposition forward.
Another saw Sandi staying on the wing and not moving more than the length of the centre square. That was his zone.

Obviously, they intend to make a documentary on it. Then we will get to know precisely what was written on it.

I dunno. To me, it seemed like a 3 minute pre-game interview with the coach and they happened to be standing in front of the whiteboard, so Kingy commented on how simple the messages were, hoping to draw out a few comments from Ross, which worked. Perhaps if he had asked him directly, Ross would not have been so forthcoming.

I could be wrong though, and I would certainly like to see a more in-depth interview/documentary.

You are right, of course. A feature on Ross and how he works his whiteboard would be counter to everything he espouses.
Something like that could only backfire on us.
