Selection dilemma Solved
Who gets dropped in a dominant side? Well it’s been so long for us Blues supporters that we have forgotten how to deal with this but here is the answer…
The answer is, you don't drop a player on poor performances because there were no poor performances. You drop a player if you have someone who can do what they did better.

For example, if you believe there is someone in the side who couldn't do that job as well (for example Russell) as someone who was not in the side (For example Walker/Grigg) then they are the player to be replaced.

So I would say (after Round 1) Grigg would do a better job than Russell and Walker would do a better job than Garlett. While it’s a tough decision to make, to me that is the right decision to make.
It's a matter of opinion.
Remember, we are Carlton and being competitive/good/making finals is not enough. Adequate = the best.

haha interesting...russell was pretty good, maybe joseph n garlett will be the unlucky ones...both walker and grigga have to be in this side...

It's tough, but has a simple answere which is a matter of opinion, like asking do you want Dunstall or Lockett, or Carey or Franklin.

Someone good is gonna miss out for someone better.

great insight ..
no mention of potential matchups or anything, just saying "do a better job" doesn't help, yet you waste our time with creating a new thread, when your weak opinion could have been appended on all the other threads of the same topic.
What are they doing a better job at? Maybe they are good at making a mean Pasta, in that case, bring in Grigg and Walker for round 2!

Only match up that's a worry is the one on Brown, that would mean Setanta would be included although last year Thornton did a good job on him...
I recon Joseph can cover Power and Grigg can cover Johnstone just fine. Let them worry about us.

ok, so no one could do better what our team did last week, therefore everyone plays again this week. problem solved.

Well I recon we should have beaten Richmond by 100 points, simmo gave most of his posessions to richmond and let them have a few goals adn we missed some dead set sitter goals. We shat on them with our ability to win the footy and with our pressure. The moment you stop striving to improve is the moment the rot sets in.

If the club were to follow this rule then in 5-8 years time, we'll have a list of strong 30 year olds and a whole load of undeveloped 20 year olds. A few years after that we'd be in the same position we were four years ago.

How about whoever plays well for the Blues the previous week gets a game that week? Why would you drop a player for playing well only to bring in someone who would have just come back from injury or suspension?

After what we've come from and are just getting out of, how can you expect that from a team in Round 1? What more could the team have done? They pulverised Richmond and sent a message to the public. Everyone did everything that they should have last Thursday.

All i know is that Walker and Grigg must come in if they are 100% fit. In answering the selection problems only the MC know what roles these players will play.

It sounds like Ratts loves Joseph as a negator and wants him in the side. He loved Garlett's defensive pressure, Robinson's attack and flair and Jacobs will stay in as his tap work his very valuable to us.

It comes down to the roles each player will play on the night as to who gets selected.

I think AJ will stay, i think he is the best at what he does. Seems some folks might be on a different wave length when I said we should have won by 100. Just that watching the game for the 3rd time there were players that got a lot of the footy and consistantly used it poorly which resulted in us not scoring then Richmond scoring (Simpson's kicking game for example) and Wiggo should of had a bag of goals which he deserved for his effort. I'm hoping that these guys can improve on this and take us to the next level and knock Hawthorn and Geelong of their perch because we are good enough.

Also a lot of Blues fans are like a dog rescued from an animal shelter. Years of abuse as led them the be unconfident, scared and a bit snappy. Hopefully with a bit of TLC this year we can get back to our old ways and earn our arrogance back!

Remember the days when near enough or just doing enough to get the job done wasn't good enough? Well I recon Ratts, Diesel & Sticks can! Those days just might be baaaaaaack.

I actually agree we should have won by 100 but we butchered our chances to do that.

Having said that in no way am I disappointed with an 83 point victory.

With regards to the selection dilemma, it will not be solved until we start lacking depth so it is something that we should not want a solution to.

There's nothing wrong with having this dilemma.

It was a good win, and being round 1 and us being young we WILL improve. Next time might beat em by that much! Any how, I can't wait for the next test and beat Brisbane's 2 big blokes.

i believe Ratts and the selection committee will take a hard line and not make any changes!!!

and i think it will be the right way to go...unfortunately players like Grigg, Walker and Fish....as much as i want them in the team will need to bide there time!!

If they decide to go along this path then it will make the next 2 weeks of availabilities very interesting!!!
