Not sure whether to post this in here or in the Market Place, but anyway. Im looking to sell my current computer and was wondering if someone could give me an estimate for what I could sell it for..

The specs of the computer are:

AMD Athlon Phenom X4 955 Black edition 3.2ghz
ATI Radeon 4650 2gig
GA-MA770-UD3 Motherboard
4 gig ram
500 gig Harddrive
Cool Master case

Any help would be appreciated :)

Normally when someone asks what they should sell their used computer for the answer is "don't expect much". But that's a decent box you have there.

The processor is listed as an April 2009 release and is AMD's current second best offering (by 0.2 Ghz).

$100 gfx card. And I see the max ram for that is 1GB. I don't think you have 2 in it.

4GB main board ram is almost standard now and necessary.

500GB HD standard too.

If you bought the thing new then you bought it recently and should know what you paid for it. It's used now but still current, try and get 70 % of new price.

(or is it hot hence why you have to ask?)

We'll I got the computer built about 4 months ago for $1300 and I wanted to see how much value the computer had lost as im intrested in buying an Alienware desktop. So do you reckon I can fetch $1000 for it?

You'd want to check the current prices for all those parts. Yesterday I used eBay and it was very easy. I'm half inclined to do it now out of curiosity but I'd rather not do all your work for you.

Remember all the parts, DVD was missing from your list, though not worth a lot.

I don't see why you'd update just for a different looking case, you buy them for what's inside them.

This. You could probably get all the parts that are in the Area 51 + a sick Lian Li or another nice case for probably 1/2 the price

Not sure if you would get $1000 for that now.

CPU: probs between 100-150, pretty good cpu since you can unlock 2 core and make it a quad
Graphics card: Not sure
Motherboard: Not sure
Ram: What type? ddr2?800mhz? 1033?? If its ddr2 800mhz and depending on the brand you could get about 80-100
500gig hdd: ~$40
Need more info on the case

Probs best to sell it on ebay since you can get a fair bit more on there then what you would get on a computer forum.

Edit: Also, should add if you have a custom heatsink or just standard, Psu brand and Watts, as above with dvd drive, screen?, keyboard, etc

Have to agree that the alienware looks pretty inflated in price just for a different looking case. You could probably build a system just as good for half the price. If I was you I would give it a miss.

just a little play here...

you can get an alienware PC case on ebay for $200. I didn't go for the i7 extreme here which you can get for another $500. But this would be a pretty sweet system. Cost $1700 with the case. Better than $5000 anyday.

i9 is coming out soon right? i5 are a cheap option to the i7 and they are alright just because of how high they can be overclocked

agree the i9's look pretty good with 6 cores and early tests are showing they can nearly fly. They will be very expensive though. Hopefully the price of i7's will drop with the i9 release in 2010. But this is the problem with computers as your system is always obsolete the moment you buy it. So spending 5 grand on alienware is complete waste of money
