Well with the structured pre season practice matches upon us will the pre season hope and optimism of competing teams prove to be genuine or a beat up? Bit of talk going around on who will be the big improvers, but until games are actually played that is all it is. Surfers and Grange the main two that we keep hearing about up on the coast with a supposed influx of state league players with a bit of quality about them. Conflicting reports on Palmie, some saying big losses while others telling me some very good signing aqquired? Cooly with the loss of Hawkins and the Carins boys may struggle unless they've recruited. Springwood havent had much success of late but would assume they have blooded plenty of young kids who should by now have some games under their belts. Magpies welcoming back some players from state league who found other clubs after they pulled out of QAFL and also hear Jimmy Rozynski back who will add plenty of hardness around the packs. Sandgate seem to have lost a few and maybe the team to slide down the ladder, while Mayne from their website suggest that they have done as good as anyone in the recruiting stakes, with Caleb Brown a massive get after playing open State footy last year. Great to see him return to obviously where his heart lies after a stellar state league season. Have heard nothing on Burleigh and will be off to watch Maroochy and Noosa tomorrow. Noosa suffered a couple of big losses in Matthews and Braeur, two extremely fit men and hard bodied midfielders. While Braeur not in the class of Matthews, his leadership and onfield direction and leadership will be missed. Dont think they have any recruits of any note, probably blood a few youngsters. Maroochy talkin it up a bit, plenty on the track with a bit of quality, will push the tigers tomorrow who im tipping could be underdone after a very wet pre season. Good to see local footy back.

Magpies pumped palmy in ordinary conditions. Missing a couple of players they were absolutley thrashed by a hard running Maggies. Jimmy Rozinski hasnt missed a beat and Corrie looked good. Will be a solid week on the track. Will have to improve significantly just to be top 5. Maggies look the goods.

Magpies will be very strong - were round the mark all last year and there 'ins' far outweights their 'outs'. What was the score?

Don't know why the call the coast north of brisbane sunshine. All it does is rain. Saw last years premiers yesterday and they were far too good for Maroochy in the first quarter. After quarter time the game was level. Conditions were atrocious.

Not sure how many each side was missing. Brewster didn't play for Noosa but is definately playing apparently.

maroochydore had a few resting/unavailable, however not sure that would have changed the result yesterday. Noosa appear to be up and about, were very solid most of the first quarter, Maroochydore only got the ball out of their half once.

was a very ordinary game of football, in very ordinary conditions. not sure what the coaches took out of yesterday apart from some fitness.

off Mayne's website..

Mayne's tallest recruit - ex Alex Hills ruckman Scott Maxwell made a successful return to footy with a strong performance in the middle against Wilston Grange on Saturday. A personal trainer by day, Maxwell combined his strength and agility well to give the Tigers' midfield plenty of drive around the stoppages. After 4 years out of the game, he has finally followed the lead of ex Alex Hills star and close friend Luke Faulkner in coming on board, with the Tigers faithful very pleased with his early form.

In soggy conditions at Everton Park, the Gorillas justified their tag as flag favourites by finishing over the top of the Tigers in an old fashioned slogfest. The Gorillas had too much polish around the clinches and were efficient in front of goal to topple the Tigers by 4 goals. Mayne are set to play the Gorillas again in the traditional Anzac Day clash in a few weeks time and will need to work extremely hard to match it with the classy Grange boys.

This week it is Maroochydore at Everton with reserves at 12pm and seniors at 2pm.

PBC has 12 first choice players out. Still no excuse though as they were pretty bad over 4 quarters

any surprises from the weekends games or was it simply a case of all clubs sending out teams of blokes who have trained the most to see how they go? PBC getting pumped was a surprise to me but heard they were missing a few. any of the newcommers look like changing the comp or same blokes different year doing all the work????

sandgate didn't score a point until 5 minutes into the last qtr against aspley

Damo,
Didnt Aspley play Southport on the weekend? Assuming I am correct which Aspley side did Sandgate struggle against? Short of only playing an under 20's, would ring alarm bells in the ears of Long!

that was the week before. it was still a young side

Hawks terrible first half. Not sure how many out etc, but seemed like different side to last year. Aspley were terrific in first half, some pretty handy players running around who played senior footy at NEAFL level last year (Travis Johnstone, James Linton, Bevan one of the Bucavaz's played to I think, plus a half dozen others from who I saw). I think Sandgate won second half and finished off OK, interesting to see how they go against a side form same comp this week. Was first hit out so maybe hold judgement? Someone told me there were 10 ex Sandgate guys playing for Aspley!

It was the Aspley Reserve Grade side with a few top side guys thrown in that were a little low on game time.

There are 12 on the list that have played at Sandgate at some point. It could be more but some just can't bring themselves to play for Aspley.

The Aspley SEQAFL 2 side also played the Sandgate Reserves on the day.

Be very careful paying overs for this sort of bloke mate - plenty of blokes around who are and always will be far better players than coaches. Have a look at some of the careers those blokes who you interviewed the year Brett got the coaching gig and tell me they have kicked arse anywhere else?
Have a close look at Dan Christian and then tell me have you ever seen him and Brett in the same room together?? :)

Good comment.

It will be interesting to see what Noosa plans going forward, as far as their football department goes. This year will be ready made for the inclusion of younger players coming through the ranks. Employment and salary cap will have a large part to play with most clubs - no matter where they may be.

Hopefully Noosa and M'dore give the younger players ever opportunity to cement a place in their sides. Success at the Noosa club in recent years has them well placed to blend both experience and youth. For the sake of the League and North Coast we need a strong M'dore and Caloundra.

Well you don't go from having one of the largest junior set ups in the region to one of the smallest because everything is rosy GK! Nor do you go back to having one senior football side playing local footy in Div 4 when it had 2 good senior sides + 18's less than 6 years ago. Something went wrong (obviously) and it should never have been allowed to come to this IMO. The population has massively increased in the southern section of the coast in recent years, clubs nearby have record numbers. Its all very disappointing to see IMO and needs fixing ASAP.

Big comment, you know whats happening at the club, Strong comment for some person that has nothing to do with the club.

If you have dropped 2 Divisions id think it was a fair comment. The Panthers used to be a power house up here on the coast. They should be doing better than 3rd division..

Can't comment on the sunny coast but all praccy mTches have been canned this weekend! Wtf, why on earth would they cancel the day before only to see balmy sunny conditions for the rest of the day. And I am on speaking of Brisbane and goldy conditions. If this where the case is vic I would have played a total of 50 games over 15 years. Am I being precious or is this the worst decision we have seen in a long time?

Has got everyone baffled Kwhit! Unbelievable.

Its baffling enough that they start the season 3 weeks after every other comp, and schedule practise matches that officially finish two weeks before rd 1. Its baffling that they call off games at 9am on a Friday, before giving it a chance to fine up, which it does. Would of been a slow track at most grounds, but surely playable on most. And any totally ruined surely could of been moved to the other sides ground? What the hell are they thinking?

With a long footy season ahead, where most grounds cop an absolute battering they are obviously not wanting to let them get chopped up for practice games. A slow track whilst playable would surely speed up the deterioration of grounds. Whilst frustrating I understand where they are coming from.

Whilst improving each year, sadly qld Footy is still the laughing stock to other states. I in a very long time being involved with varies clubs have I seen games practice or not being cancelled 30 hours previous to a scheduled game. Don't get me wrong I am not upset to see the back of vic weather, but we really need to look at some of the decisions being made. Not sure what it looks like out your window, but I would be extremely embarrassed to explain to someone a round has been called off due to inclement weather and the chance it would damage our fields! Dubai anyone?
