That I think is the issue Speedy - very early call and even though some grounds will be soaked still, most grounds up here have some sort of sand base, especially at the Goldie and tend to dry out pretty well in a 48hr period.

Does seem fairly precious and although I know Fishermans Rd would be very heavy there would have been more logic not to play last weekends practise matches on the main oval then cancel this weekends round. Beautiful day to do some yard work now!!:D

Well you don't go from having one of the largest junior set ups in the region to one of the smallest because everything is rosy GK! Nor do you go back to having one senior football side playing local footy in Div 4 when it had 2 good senior sides + 18's less than 6 years ago. Something went wrong (obviously) and it should never have been allowed to come to this IMO. The population has massively increased in the southern section of the coast in recent years, clubs nearby have record numbers. Its all very disappointing to see IMO and needs fixing ASAP.
How is Caloundra going to get players back when there Rego Fees are $300.00 they have a shorter season than last year & the players that played seniors last year (div 1) are getting most or some of there fees paid for. I know i am now looking for a new club....

I managed to catch the last half of the practice game between Springwood and Surfers the other weekend, was actually a very solid contest. Both sides look to have some handy inclusions; Springwood have certainly improved from what I saw. But they still rely very heavily on their 3 stars in Grose, Hockley and Thompson who all stood out again on the weekend and I think all of them spent alot of time in the middle together. They seem to be the only players at the club who would play regular senior games at the top four clubs but the gap between them and the rest looks smaller this year. As for Surfers Fulton kick 5 or 6 I think, and their spread after winning a contest looked amazing. I think both sides will climb the ladder this year. From what I've read I believe Lenny could give further info on the game as he plays for or did play for them last year.

Greg,

There is no doubt springwood have improved! I am still unsure if they will be able to climb the ladder thou? Relying on the 3 players you mentioned was never the issue, the problem comes from 6 - 22. Untill these players can lift up to the comp standard it will be difficult for the Pumas to climb much if any. And considering Mayne, Maroochy, Grange have all improved as well. I guess you still have the flip side of Burleigh and Cooly sliding? Maybe it 's possible only time will tell.
Surfers will be right about the money! Consistency is what has let them down over the years. One week beating Noosa, being thumped by Sandgate the next. If they can sort this issue out and finish top 3 they will be tough to beat!

I hear you! I don't have a distinct connection to any club in this division other then the fact my cousin played club at Mt Gravatt and state footy with Thompson and Hockley as a junior and so keep and eye out when I can on springwood now they're there, and the fact they are my closest local club in this division. But being un biased I think Springwood have done an amazing job of keeping signings under the radar, Lenny has been rather coy ;) I saw 5 or 6 players running around against surfers not there last year and all look to be in Springwoods best 10 players. As for the Mayne hype I'm not convinced!!! They have included only 3 players of note, but all 3 were there a few years ago and yet Mayne still struggled to win 2 games. Matt Page is the only real player worth talking about from what I've seen so far at Maroochy, but I havnt heard much out of their camp.

This may be bold and an unwise comment but I think Mayne have done alot of talking, as for the walking we shall see, but I'm going with them still in the bottom three along with Cooly and Burley!

Have at me :)

Greg, I hope your spot on with the quiet signings. Would have to agree with the Maroochy comment, you actually know one more name from their signings than I! Mayne pushed Grange to a couple of goals in praccy match, and I have heard that Mayne where missing 3 or 4 top liners? Not sure what Grange where missing but that would indicate about a 8 - 10 goal turn around from last season if correct. Has anyone actually confirmed the ins and out's for each side this year?
Will and can only comment on Palmy:

Out's: Horn (retired), Vis (r), Blowes (r), Round (r), Knight (Southport), Burton(Broadbeach), Thynne (Broadbeach)

In's Perry-Bolt (Burleigh), Derrek (Broadbeach), Emblem (Broadbeach), Runnals (Waratahs), Breadenord (PBC), Rhynhart (PBC), still a couple more to confirm!

So even as a supporter, its hard for me to really know if the in's will cover the out's!

Still, they will be right on the money, plenty of quality players still running around.

That is not a bad loss by Mayne! But I suspect Grange had quite a few out; Springwood lost to Surfers by 13 points and both sides were at close to full strength from what I saw, Surfers had Fulton, both Rolfe's and their best 3 midfielders in, and as I said from the last half I saw, both sides put on a very solid performance for a practice match, wasn't much left in the tanks at the end of the game from both sides, and by the looks no cards really hidden?

I'm sure both had a few resting, I didn't see Monk playing for springwood but I heard he was thinking or trying to make it at NEAFL level with Morningside - don't quote me but!

Do a bit of research before u spill;) Mayne has had more than the return of 3 players ( Brown, Falconer and Ferguson). Not saying they will be world beaters, but they will win more games this year. They are enthusiastic and very keen to do well, they showed a re alot of good signs last year even though they didn't win a game.As for the talking, WTF is wrong with having a positive attitude....

Who are the others G? I saw Scott Maxwell, Stephenson and another guy on their website. Are there others? They seem to have built back to the side they were 2 years ago, minus Teale, plus the addition of those others listed.

Jack Collings from Morningside and Ben Davies from Redland Bombers are another 2 that comes to mind

I like the fire G, but do some research??? You have not read my comment correctly; I said you only have three recruits worth talking about, and that those three were all there when Mayne struggled to win 2 games... And having the talk is perfectly fine, I just hope it's not in vein!

Christ, just let the man have some enthusiasm for his club without the smarminess. They've had more players leave them than return over the years and have had to do it very tough, so it is good to see some blokes coming back regardless. I hope Mayne step up this year too G!

Cheers, its just there is alot of positive enthusiastic vibe around the club. Everyone at club are doing there utmost best to try to lift the club to have a positive year and future, what is wrong with that? I hope they succeed, they deserve it, due to there patience and loyality to the club.

Can't wait for the season to start, I think the whole comp will be very competitive.:thumbsu:

Grange beat Sandgate by 8 goals. Will be a very hard side to beat this year. S Brittain will be best forward in comp if he stays fit. Shir didnt play I dont think, so they will only improve. The Hawks not disgraced, but have lost a lot of key players and will have to work hard for their wins this year. Very physical game for this time of year!

Mayne 19-5-119 to Maroochy 7-4-46 in Seniors and Mayne Reserves won 13-7-85 to 9-9-63

Don't know what sort of players were played but it was a good win to boost confidence for the Tiges.

sounds like all the hype from maroochydore was just hot air.

Went and watched the intra club at noosa. looked like a solid hitout. standout was the protection from both teams. only played seniors vs reserves but a lot to like from both teams. in reserves teams the likes of dom waterman, wolfie and a couple of others will get a few senior games this year. seniors dominated as expected but reserves moved the ball well in patches. Think brewster ended up with fifteen or so but as i said only reserves opposition.

Hope these supposed signings weren't playing against the Magpies yesterday... Certainly will be a LONG season for Springwood if they were!!

That's an early call, it was only a practice match and you don't know what sort of side Maroochy fielded...

Well u would think the majority of their side would be playind as there is only 2 weeks till round one and everyone needs match fitness or they will get shown up round one and they were also very ordinary against noosa two weeks ago so not looking great for the roos. Plus these recruits would need to be amazing to cover the ten goal margin between the roos and all top 7 teams last season.

Just moved to the Gap, played footy for North Cairns last year, looking for a good club to play at. Anyone point me in the right direction? :thumbsu:

Surfer defeated Burliegh by 100 points in the seniors and 140 points in reserves

Not sure Wolfie at age 38 will be part of the Tigers plans in 2012. Good luck to him if he does get a gig but I'm not sure it would be a given.
