Switchingplay,
yes is a great idea and has been extremely successful at leagues that have implemented this.(not many have done it though).I played in the Ovens & Murray league for many seasons down in the Albury/Wodonga region. One of the minor leagues down that way is The Hume League,.. for the first time 2 of the leagues teams played today(easter friday). They are 2 of the top clubs from the past 4 years, namely Howlong and 2011 premiers, Jindera.Now... Howlong have recruited Sydney Swans premiership player , namely Daniel Bradshaw whom will play alongside his 2 brothers(his younger brother kicked 100 plus last season.)
I dont know the results as of yet but the league and both clubs were predicting a crowd of 2500..... where in a normal home and away game the crowd would be lucky to be 500.Great revenue raiser.
Just look at the League match played today between the Rabbitohs and Bulldogs..... a crowd of 35000. .
Have got feedback on this game. Crowd of 2000 plus approx, gate takings of $8000 plus , and thats before the canteen /bar/raffles etc.In addition the clubs have donated some $6000 of these takings to Charity. First time in the leagues history a game has been played on good friday..... what a success... and money raised to a charity .
By the way, Howlong won the game, with ex Swan champ in Darren Bradshaw kicking 9 goals, and his brother booted 6.
Bradshaw will carve up at that standard won't he Stuy?
who is he? never heard of him.
Mikal bloom won the league medal down there last year playing for Holbrook ! Would have to think Bradshaw will dominate that league. By all reports a very similar standard to phc.
And Fev was reported by the boundary umpire and sin binnedSmy1305,
yes ,sure will. His brothers are both 6 foot 3 or 4 inches tall as well, which gives Howlong a massive forward line . The brother that kicked 100 goals plus in 2011, was AFL drafted years ago, but didnt break into the elite level, still.. is a very good player and goalkicker. If Daniels knee stands up to the weekly demands of footy, we might see 2 brothers kicking 100 goals each for the same club in the same year....
On the other hand, this good friday experiment, will become a permanent fixture, due to the huge success on Friday.
On another point of info, Fevola played his first game for Yarrawonga today in the Ovens and Murray league and kicked 7 goals( in a game that ended in a draw ) in front of a crowd of 7000. Normally this 1st round game attracts 2000...... unreal.

Potentially a fairly lop sided season you would think. Not sure where the Roos fit in there but when all 5 games are this "easy" to pick, you would hope someone jumps out of the box. Saying this the results aren't in yet!!![]()
