he is starting to show that he can become handy around CHF as he can take good marks. He needs to learn to pass the ball to a running player who is a good kick so they can enter the 50 and kick to leading forward or have a shot. He seems to hold it up after taking the mark and then the forwards have led and all he does is kick it to the square making it hard for Fev who usaully has 2 or more defenders on him then.

He could become dangerous around goal in a few years, if he improves his strength and fitness he might make it as a power forward, I still believe there is hope for the big irishman

in a near BOG performance against the Dockers ...

Took several great marks, and Kicked 4 goals (and really should have kicked 5, missed an sitter) and he has often been very much maligned here at BF, but I'd like neutral fans to actually acknowledge the hard work and improvement in his game, especially since his debut a few years ago, and even more impressive, how he has managed to turn his career around after that unfortunate incident pre-season ...

Has become a firm fan favourite amongst the Carlton fans ...
I believe he has now shown he can be a decent player at AFL level, and if it wasn't for his efforts today, we really would have struggled to win.

I tend to agree with you because a). He is actually showing improvement.
b). Did basically get you over the line v Freo.
c). Because you are not claiming he is the second coming of Stick's

But he'd be a walk up start at collingwood ..if cam wood can get a game then almost any big man can .

Ps. your sig is a joke..pretty much like everything you post .

This however is a ridiculous statement and typical of the ill founded belief that Carlton have some "super list" were even their potentially decent players are any better than just that...potentially decent.
There are two player only on Carlton's list who would be a "walk-up" start.
Judd and Kruezer.
Eddie Betts just misses out because the Pies list is chock full, of talented, elusive, dangerous small forwards.
Fev misses because he's getting too long in the tooth and is too high maintenance and too inconsistent.

Setanta skills are not great yet,but he players with so much sprit. Something that a lot of Carlton players do not have. Goes in 100%, fights hard & contests what else can you expect. I hope he develops into another Earl Spalding, just a hard at it, keeps on fighting ensuring the ball stays in the forward 50 area. Tacke after tackle takes no crap from the opposition. Well done Setanta keep on trying your guts out lets hope the boys around you learn from you and do the same. To many Carlton players simply do not know what it means to pull on the Navy Blue Jumper. Never give up never !!

Carlton have failed to recruit a player as gifted as Alan Toovey.

Murphy and Gibbs wouldn't be a walk up start ahead of elite talents such as Thomas, Wellingham, O'Bree, Toovey, Lockyer, Dick and Beams.

Gibbs isn't an inside midfielder...
Wouldn't get a game anywhere else.
Says a lot about where Carlton are at.
Cale Hooker and Hayden Skipworth would be great players at the Bullants.

Doubt that they'd crack a game at Carlton unless we have more injuries.

I know it's the tradition for winning team supporters to pump up the tyres of one of their own, but I just think it's pretty relevant in O'Hailpin's case, the Big Irishman's career was over in the eyes of many after his pre-season stoush with Cam Cloke, but since he's returned from the Bullants, his last month for the Blues has been solid, culminating in a near BOG performance against the Dockers ...

I notice on some of the other Blues threads that the O'hAlipin & Russell knockers & wingers have just quietly dropped away from rubbishing these two players now that they are showing what we all new they had and have now found some new players to be negative about like Bentley & Johnson.
It's the same wingers every week who find someone new to try and drag down.
These people must have terrible lives always looking at their beer glass as half full!

I never contended that any of Collingwood's players were a "walk-up" start at any club. I don't recall Collingwood players having anything at all to do with anything least of all my post.
Read what I posted.
O"Hailpin would not be a walk-up start at any club. He is not even a "walk-up" start at Carlton for that matter.
Judd and Kruezer, in my opinion, would be a walk-up start at Collingwood.

You do know what a "walk-up start" means don't you???

Um, I'm not Leight Brown fan, but he has achieved 10 times what the Irish dud will. Further to that, he offers much more currently.

Zeke how old are you? i have read a few of your posts and all you seem to add to a thread is troll after troll. So if you are over 15 then you need some real help.

These 2 aren't in our best 22.
Setanta is your starting CHF.

Does this really need to degenerate into a pissing contest?

Setanta has strung together three very good games, and looks to be making good progress. Great for Setanta, great for Carlton, and probably of very little interest to the main board.

Why would you recruit Skipworth if he isn't in your best 22?

Come on mate, you know the story about Skipworth.

He was drafted as a depth player and to help out the kids.

He's not in the best 22 if everyone is fit and firing. But we know that never happens at Essendon.

I'm a fan of the mad irishman. He just seems to put everything into what he does. He's as rough as guts, but at least now he's getting a few goals and hopefully will keep improving.

Happy with his recent development and love the aggression he brings to our side should "charge" up the boys. He has taken some good contested marks in recent weeks and looks to have found his spot in our side. If he can keep a levelled head and get the stutter right then he will add more to the team then anyone else we've tried there recently.

Don't think he deserves to be knocked but doesn't deserved to be hailed as the second coming either...
