What has impressed me is the huge steps he takes from contest to contest,
learns quickly from his previous.

This time last year he was an athlete who could sort of kick, sort of mark,
and didn't really know where to go.

This year as he plays a bit more down back,
will pick up where to go,
and at the same time how and when to use his body.

Very good at one percenters, and second efforts,
which athletes would rather sacrifice for possies.

Thought he would be another prendergast,
but will be much better than that.

I thought he was ok yesterday. He backed himself running out of defence, which not too many do. Sure he made a couple of errors but he kept at it. Far from our worst.

And yes, Tony Shaw is a prat. He commentary on Calton games really shows who he played for.....

They want to make him into a Kennely type player, which will be fantastic.

I can see Setanta becoming one of our best.

Would you prefer Deluca?

Did you see Lucas kick a point from 25 metres out? :p :D

And destroy this year's AA CHB in the first quarter. :thumbsd:

He was kicking from 50 metres late in the game and this would have been the first time he's done that at AFL level with a pressure kick. It's great that he had the ball at such as crucial stage in the game and had the confidence to take the shot whilst making the distance.

I know of a couple of players who can't kick that or make the distance and they grew up playing this game.

His footskills and decision making are not up to scratch yet but he has the potential to be a star. After a few bad errors he managed to play pretty well in the end. With a bit more experience of the game and some kicking practise I think he will turn out to be a very good player.

Lead our tackle count. Couldn't be more impressed with the way he bounced back after that horror period. Really busts his gut to get to contests.

hey guys were crap

it was wonderful to see someone with that attack on the ball. and the strength of him was great really enjoyed watching him. should have gotten lucas early i thought because he would then either spoil or be beaten but wouldnt have to get too much of the ball. thrornton did well though........off the point but how can people on here bag thornton one of our best for the year, a consistent performer

I don't think the issue is with his disposal per se, the issue is with his understanding of the game. He doesn't really know where to kick it and as a result he makes mistakes. Hopefully he'll learn in time.
I agree... he wasnt born to the game but from what I have seen today he is going to be awesome soon... and even when he did make a mistake, he never hung his head and let it affect him.

Good vision, great leap on him and a never say die attitude.

Just what we need at the club

Did you check out last weeks game? I'm a big fan but he was shocking. Every kick was a clanger. It's probably people remembering those games, or somehow expecting him to be a top full back when he hasn't got the height to do it.

Only the set-shot for goal was a clanger. Don't be fooled by the grubber kicks - they went exactly where they were meant - to teammate in the open. It's more important to get on with it and take advantage of the space someone has run hard to make than it is to steady and pinpoint deliver it on someone's chest.

Like I said, his only other mistake against the Dogs, was to not leave his man to help out a teammate in a marking contest.

did you notice Kouta ...our captain who has played the game all his life miss a goal from a set shot when we needed a goal ?

Dont even understand how these threads start up. There were plenty of players out there agaisnt essendon who were a lot worse than setanta. He palyed a great game and deserves the credit. FFS.

Thornton was outstanding, anyone on still on his case is confusing the code with soocer and needs to move on. Seriously.

Kouta was tremondous.

I wont be dranw into baggin stevens but yes, he had a poor game I thought.

French.

Heres something new for you to consider,.....we miss Murphy. fantastic thing to say given his age.

Waite and Fish were average given the wraps put on them. In comparison to their hype they had poor games.

these two boys needed at least a fortnight at the bullants. what a joke bringing them straight back into the team after 8 week lay offs.
