Clubs that consider themselves in, or about to enter, a premiership window of opportunity over the next four years are less likely to speculate. Instead, coaches will want to trade ready-made players, especially those with a specific need such as a key-position forward or defender.
That is why the first-round national draft selections of clubs such as Sydney (6), Port Adelaide (8), Hawthorn (9), Carlton (11), and possibly Collingwood and St Kilda, could all be put on the table to strike deals.
Another factor is that a number of clubs are far better placed financially and have room in their salary caps to lure quality players.

Cashed-up Hawthorn has a bucket of money to spend on recruiting players to fill certain needs. It has not taken kindly to its fall from grace -- first to ninth in 12 months -- and has feelers out for players.

I am hearing that 11 will be traded in a massive deal(involving plenty of clubs) involving Mitch Thorp to Carlton and a MASSIVE name to Hawthorn. Other details and things to be involved.

Apparently Pelchen has set Hawks up well to take full advantage of this trade period. We are set up pretty well to.

A deal that big has too many places to fall through for it to actually happen, imo.

But yes, Hawks are chasing a very big fish and it looks like we are willing to do what it takes to make it happen.

Sick of hearing about this big name! WHO IS IT????
It's alot easier for people to either:
- pretend they know who it is
- if they actually do know who it is, mention that they do but not tell anyone so they can feel big about knowing something other people don't know.

My guess is the majority of people fit into the first category.

The Big Fish -Lake,Sandilands,Burgoyne,Pavich yes the Morphing man himself so i have heard!

Let me just clarify that I have absolutely no idea who the big fish is. (there may be several fishes being lured?)

I probably shouldn't be posting this, but I did receive this in an email from a hawks official:

Might be hard to recognise in their civvies but that's Damian Hardwick and Stewy Dew just prior to them leaving the club. It's understood that their departure has stalled the process somewhat.

Makes sense. Carlton need more forward options. Thorp could go for a first rounder and we would have 2 picks inside the first round. That would most certainly get us an elite KPD such as Lake...

11 man trade:

1. Tarrant to Richmond for pick 19 and S Tuck (2 players)
2. Drum and Peak from Freo to Carlton for pick 10 (4)
3. Picks 10 and 19 from Freo to Hawthorn for Mossy, Morts and Willo (7)
4. Raines to Brisbane for pick 44 (8)
5. Picks 3 and 35 from Richmond to Hawthorn for Thorp and Ellis and pick 44 (9)
6. Hawthorn to offer 3, 10, 19, 44 to Bulldogs for Griffen and Lake. (11)

Bulldogs accept as a way of building a succession plan for when Johnno and Aker give up the game.

Like I said, I can't think of an 11 man trade that isn't ridiculous.
