He demanded $400K a year, and Collingwood have been proven right to not give it to him.

In 23 games I haven't seen a player at our club be so vastly overpaid for his input.

Utterly pissed off with what he's done since coming to the club.

Definitely won't be getting the same money when he comes out of contact.

We have managed to bring him down to our level. WAS a good player and deserved that money....no longer.
How can you expect him to raise the bar when other more established mids are lower. He is playing to our team standard.

Can't deny he's been a disappointment, but I'm hoping he will figure it out. He is what he is, a semi decent tagger who has some flair that occasionally plays a great game but is otherwise just another average mid.

Nonsense. Are you suggesting every mid we ever sign to our club will get worse because the rest of the midfield is average? In that case how will we ever improve.
No excuses for Wellingham. Hell, sometimes he doesnt look like he even cares out there, which cannot be said about many others.

Exactly. The issue is that the standard needs to change. We have average mids and every player that comes in plays to that standard. To change this you have to change the acceptable level by removing those that function by it.

Some players have to be moved on that at face value are AFL players but we aren't achieving anything with them. In other words our midfield is shit and everyone who attaches to it will become shit. It needs wholesale changes.

I'm not sure what's going to happen to him, what do you do? Hard one as a coach.... he's been moved around, dropped to the reserves, but he's only given us one excellent game against the Suns and that's it... do you just keep persisting and hope he'll find form or do you bring in a younger player and trade him or delist him at years end?

Not possible. You're suggesting that we replace our entire midfield then.
Let's trade/delist everyone and then have them replaced with what? More average midfielders? It's not like you can assemble an A-grade midfield with all A graders from scratch.
Say we had managed to sign Mundy or someone similar, just maybe our midfield suddenly looks good. Or do you still hold the opinion that he will simply play to 'our team standard.'

Many supporters like to think we simply need the one (maybe two) A-grade elite mids to at least be competitive in the midfield. We don't have any. Wellingham was never supposed to be it, but he has been worse than what we thought him to be. Why would we want a player who needs a great midfield around them to play decently?

Wellingham is way too worried about his hair and hipster ways that play footy for the jumper

His second efforts are non-existent and doesn't go hard at the ball or the contest

De-list when his contract is up and move one.

Thanks Mr Wellingham for costing the club a high draft pick and giving nothing in return. Hopefully this thread gets to 100 plus pages like the Priddis thread, coz it is well deserved.

As someone who was excited about his arrival I've been very disappointed in Sharrod so far, I was expecting him to add so much more to the midfield, instead they're throwing him around in different positions, then playing him as a tagger, like we don't have like 5 of those on our list at is

I didn't say replace the whole thing. We have a couple players that you could keep with some new talent. But our midfield is achieving exactly what at the moment?
NN, Lycett, Gaff, Rosa and Shuey you could keep. The rest are one dimensional and their disposal is shit.
Obviously Darling and Lecras are forwards not mids even though they are being rotated there.
But Cox,Priddis, Scooter, Masten offer what exactly?
I said in another thread that our midfielders together are very poor. Separate them and put them in other sides and they would be decent players.

I think he came across on a one way ticket to a side he thought was a genuine top 4 side, only to find that was far from the truth, and dropped his bundle completely.

He has class, he's intelligent and he is capable of playing well, but for the most part he's a front runner.

This will be our Des Headland trade.

Looks good in a team when he doesn't get much focus or attention but give him more responsibility and he gets found out.

Should be giving us so much more, but he was always on a hiding to nothing coming over to us. Hopefully, next year he can produce and step it up a bit.

Still a B grader. It's amazing how your stocks are much higher when you have quality around you and that was the case at the Pies. Now he is with us his deficiencies are amplified.

That is bull crap he has had 2 good not even standout games . If you think we have bought him down to our level you obviously didn't see him play at collingwood . Because they had such a good midfield you never notice a front runner like wellers . He can't front run anymore and has been found out when he is required to stand up !

Spot on. It's a amazing how we have managed to pick up so much baggage over the years. How is it a professional sporting organisation can not even develop a single A grade midfielder over almost a decade of football? Every other team has one yet we manage to **** it up over and over again.

Yep 100% this

Spud of the highest order

Play at EP for the rest of his contract and can disappear off into nothingness (kinda like in games)

So if that's the case why did we get him.

Bitterly disappointing pick up, at first I thought he just needed time to recover from his ankle injury but it's obvious now he's settled into a nice comfy life on good moneyand doesn't give sweet FA about us. Send him back to Vic while we may still get something for him.

He's not alone

Because we are playing poorly as a team everyone is poor

He's a down hill skier ...fine when things are going well
Very true, but coming from a highly successful midfield I guess we expected him to bring something uplifting and strong with him..well for my part I did anyway. But he's really just bought nothing and probably won't unless we surround him with superstars which aint gonna happen anytime soon.

Agree

He wouldn't have ben tagged much at pies

He's not tagged here much either but he just runs to the wrong spots ...he's also not prepared to run to not get the ball...in other words gut busting running defensively or offensively

I would give him time though ......in WAFL ......serious if Ross Lyon was coaching he wouldn't be in the team, you either work your butt off or you don't play

I can forgive skill errors as they are happen to anyone ...but he's simply not working harder enough or carrying an injury we don't know about which totally plausible
