I'm also sure that he said onfeild problems was why he wanted out. What a weak man.

Good luck Hawthorn.

There is no I in Team. I realise now that shaun really thinks he is bigger than he really is.

I was taught by my dad, stick through thick and thin.

so did he really say 'if the team had been going well i wouldnt have left'??

Wow. Soft!

Pretty much Maccs, that's what i picked up. All about onfield. How must his young teammates feel ??

Not going for him, but i am very dissapointed. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

If he had onfield issues, and was a true leader...........sort it out.

I heard that. I think he say he may not have left. Also said captaincy was an issue for him too!

After that story like that it's very hard to defend him when people say stuff him.

Soft

Wasn't the in-depth interview/questioning that was implied it would be.

He did say that he wasn't happy with the way they were going on-field and that perhaps if they were doing well he may have stayed.

Also said that missing out on the captaincy didn't help. I reckon he's pretty clearly outlined why he didn't get the captaincy.

Perhaps Fev should have said, "it's all about the Shaun"

At least he had the ball and not the Saints - which is more than can be said for 15-16 others Power players on the field.
Bingo. Its why good ruckmen struggle against Sandilands (and against Steve McKee in the day). Yes, their tapwork is ordinary, but at least the opposition aren't getting to use it well.

When teammates aren't getting near it, any disposal is better than no disposal.

I just saw the Mark Soderstrom story from Ch 7 Adelaide on Sky News Channel, introduced by their main sports guy Craig Norenbergs as "Shaun Burgoyne reveals why he left Port Adelaide."

In my opinion it revealed SFA why he left. I don't know how edited the story was compared to what you guys saw in SA, but IMHO it revealed nothing!!!

Edit 5 minutes later: I just saw the story repeated on Sky News' Sportsline program and it was all of 1 minute 10 seconds long. So I have no idea how heavily edited it was, but it revealed nothing to me.

It was about the same on Ch7 - 1m10s of nothing.

This is my last comment on this subject - we will never know the truth (well not at least until he retires), no matter what Shaun says on TV - he will only tell us what he wants us to hear.

The Premiership excuse is about the only palatable thing he could say about why he wanted to leave. If he said it was because of the factions at Port and the underlying disunity it causes how would it sound.

He is proud to have been a Port Player and he doesn't want to create a story for the press.

And so therefore he thought the best thing to say was he'd have stayed if the team was going better. Not a good look.

Read dyertribes comments about him being overrated. Pretty much on the mark IMO. Loads of talent and has played many good games for us but was too easy to shut down when the going got tough. We'll see whether he was worth what you gave up to get him.

So he would have stayed if the team was going better? Geez, that's a character you'd want down with you in the trenches, isn't it? I'm thinking it's a good thing that this guy didn't get the captaincy. You want that rot out the door as quick as you can.

And on that, what separated Port and Hawthorn on the ladder this year? Oh yeah :o

Good luck for next year guys. I think you've got some handy additions for 2010 in Nash and Schultz. If you play like that first quarter against Brisbane for whole matches you'll be ***** hard to beat!

According to this report, there are some serious injury doubts over Clinton Young's future and Rick Ladson's durability. Bad news for those guys, but just as well we didn't trade either of them in. Hawthorn will be closely monitoring Shaun's recovery from significant knee surgery as the article suggests he was chased hard because of the concerns over Young and Ladson.

Hi guys,
That report is half right.
Clinton Young is totally shot, very bad news for him and for us next year.
Laddo however is fine and trained well on Monday at a voluntary skils session.
I sure hope Shaun is all that he is cracked up to be.

Well I hope he changes his name to Yusaf Burgoyne and moves oversees to study Islam.
It would be karma for the club that actively poached him.
