Good luck to Hampson in his future endeavours, was not his fault the club overpaid for him, yet he is the one that cops the criticism for it. While not a fan favourite he did the best he could every time he ran on the ground. At the end of the day that is all you can ask from a player that pulls on the Tigers jumper

Yep, sums it up best for me. It was the dumbest trade, but Richmond did it, not so much Hampson - he just wanted to play footy and earn a living. I respect and separate the man from the trade - had limited skills and supposedly lots of potential and we were desperate at the time. He was popular amongst his teammates, so must have been good as blokes go - hope he has a great retirement. You are a long time out of football - nicely said Megan!

Might be a great bloke and all but biggest waste of a 2nd round draft pick along with Yarran (no surprise both blues players)

Should never have been a richmond player and i blame this mistake soley on Blair Hartley and his infatuation for Hampson since his port days

12 year career and probably made $5 million dollars , Must be the luckiest player to ever play AFL

Wont be missed

Sometimes the value of a player isnt on the field, apparently, I think it was Vlas saying it on AFL tonight, he played a big part in changing the culture at Richmond, he was an emergency for the GF so must have always given his all.

Good Luck, you lucky lucky man.

And that’s what your blue collar hard working players do for your club.

They may not be the most talented but more often than not they know that so rely on hard work to make it and that rubs off on the rest of the players where even the most talented start realising the value of hard work.

You have to be a nice bloke if you’re sitting on your arse watching your mates go out to do battle each week. What else are you going to do with yourself to look useful ? What people are missing here is that even a 100% fit Hampson was still a no goer as he was a total spud. I laugh every time I read an excuse in here that injuries Hampered him. He was a potato whether injured or fit.

His nickname in this household (started by my daughter who was just starting to take an interest in Richmond again) was 'ol slippery-hands'. So while I don't agree with you 100% - he was easily one of our worst trades - and I said that before we did it - we didn't need to know too much because the facts had been playing out in front of us. But we should seriously separate what he did with what he tried to do. We simply overpaid for it and that's not his fault.

Yeah it wasn’t his fault that he continued to sign contacts knowing he had a screwed back .;):moustache:Thanks

You and I both know it wouldn't have been one way traffic. Shaun would have had his financial commitments and would have been happy enough to accept contract offers put to him and/or his manager. If Richmond don't make re-contract offers for him to sign there is nothing he can do. His screwed back was an injury, his skill deficiency or average skill set was there for all to see. Big difference I reckon.

Please have respect for potatoes because without potatoes we could not have

Fair play to him for trying to battle through an injury to the L5 disc - it's a terrible spot and you wouldn't wish that sort of pain on anyone.
Some insight into the realities of sports injury. Shaun is lucky he got well paid. Don't envy that kind of injury at all. At least sportspeople have access to the top surgeons.

Some injuries will affect them for the rest of their life.

I suppose it can happen in any workplace, but the risk certainly higher in this sport.

While I and many others agree. There's a time and place for posts like this. This thread isnt it.
