But he won't ever deliver anything on that. When he was 25 and teasing like this it was one thing. He had time. A few years. But he's 29 now. It's either a massive second half of the SS or this doesn't translate into anything other than a few for T20 games for him.

You know, on one hand you could say there is a dearth of quality bats in domestic cricket. On the other hand, there's a raft of blokes - Marsh and Cosgrove to name the ones who have been most disappointing - who could have been averaging early 50s and walking into the test team, and they just haven't done what's required.

Looked really good last night, and yes has looked good all throughout the BBL when he's been fit.

Gun player, not sure he's going to be able to do enough to work his way back into consideration for the test side but should well and truly be in the discussion for both the OD and T20 sides.

Should be in the Australian squad for all 3 forms of the game.

Poor performance last Summer and off field question marks mean he isn't.

Can't see him ever returning to test cricket. Perhaps T20I & ODI if he keeps his form up.

His international record is pretty poor in two of the formats he has had a go at. He's done ok at one dayers but has been very disappointing in T20.

Problem is that he targets the weak bowlers in the opposition at domestic level T20. You don't normally get too much real spud stuff at international level and his record proves that.

Going by his shield history, he has not got the ongoing fitness or the mental game for long match cricket. It's a shame as I love watching him bat when he's on his game.

Agreed he's an awesome talent, i just love watching him bat. I dont even mind the scorchers beating a Vic team if (and only if) he fires. You know you'll fully enjoy watching a classical cricketer score fast playing most conventional cricket strokes.

I hope he does make it, there are batting positions available and we all know he has the talent. He stikes me as some body that wants it too much and get a bit tense. Once he knows he belongs (if that ever happens) look out!

Part of me expects him to pull a bit of a Hussey over the last half decade or so of his career.

Supremely talented, and lets not forget why he got into the test team - solid form in the Shield.

If he can replicate that in the second half of the season I'd have him as one of the next in line. I love Doolan, but Marsh is a better prospect if he can replicate the form that got him picked for the Test team originally. Shame we rushed him back when we did.

Easily in our best ODI and 2020 sides.

All that said, he's never put in successive seasons of brilliance. Needs to fire in the shield and score some big centuries.

It wouldn't surprise me if Langer has told Marsh a few home truths about what it takes to be a successful professional sportsman. I have no doubt Marsh has been playing with a hamstring injury in the T20, something he may not have done in the past.

He's not going to be a long-term test cricketer as he hasn't got the mind, fitness or dedication for it.

For one thing, he has only ever gone to England for domestic cricket once and that was for Glamorgan in the domestic T20 so he obviously isn't interested in widening his experience of first class cricket outside Aus.

His first class average is very average.

He doesn't score big very often at all if you look at his conversion rate and we have enough players like that in the Aus outfit already.

I love watching him bat just about more than anyone else in Aus cricket, but he's still a party boy who has been a disappointment in first class cricket for years. That is not going to change quickly. It's more likely that he becomes a T20 mercernary than anything else. I wouldn't blame him for that. He must know his limitations by now.

Heard a very good comparision - Marsh is like Bernard Tomic, supremely talented but fails to focus that talent where it is needed most consistently. He can also be a very disruptive influence as well, this takes away from his performances when he is going well and will mean that he needs to do more to get the same recognition as others.

Whilst I agree with every about Marsh's talents, not sure that he will be given a look in for the Australian side until he can prove that he can focus solely on his cricket. That said still believe that there will be plenty of opportunities for players to get into the test side over the next couple of years.

The second part of the Shield season is crucial to Shaun Marsh's future international aspirations.

Talent has never been an issue.

Dedication, application, resilience and confidence have been his issues. It's crossroads time right now he's obviously in superb form in T20, can he translate that to solid shield form where other than just dominating here and there, he does it week in and week out and learns to not only destroy attacks but grind them as well.

I hope he makes it, it would be a shame to see that talent go to waste.

I understand what your saying but I wouldn't blame Cosgrove for this. When he was in crazy form, Cricket Australia wouldn't look at him because of his weight issues. This is bullshit policy. I understand that CA needs to keep high fitness standards but plenty of the world's best cricketers have been fat guys. Now Cossy isn't in peak form anymore and we'll just have to go wondering if he ever could have made it at Test level. Disappointing.
