Re: Sheeds weekly ramblings - 03/05/2009

There were a number of times on Saturday night were players turned him inside/out and he couldn't lay a tackle. It was Nashesque.

Every other game this year has been the same. He's either trailing his opponent by a few metres or getting killing on the turns.

It's like watching Courtney Johns playing defence. It's just no good at the moment as his mobility is not there.

I can't recall him killing a contest, tackling anyone, or doing anything remotely good defensively. Averaging 1 tackle a game says it all really.

Well given you do not always see all of the games it is hard for anyone to pay any attention to what you have to say.

On top of that most people here would agree that when you do watch they struggle to see what you do.
I guess the rating of this thread confirms that.

Re: Sheeds weekly ramblings - 03/05/2009

A couple of points from watching the replay.

1. Myers first half was very good, when he makes a mistake he always puts in a second effort unlike a lot of our players. Often ran to space and was unrewarded when players like NLM and Mcphee made mistakes instead.
2. Need to work on our tackling, Brisbane were often able to break away or get possession away.
3. We rushed too many possession from percieved pressure that wasn't there, need to talk more.
4. Too often we didn't take possession and played for holding the man frees, and didn't get them.
5. We had few instances that players had clean hands, a lot of fumbling cost us the position to get the ball to players in space.
6. Missed easy goals at cruical times that would have swung momentum (After Winders kicked 2 in the second, Slattery, Stanton and Ryder all missed getable goals, and early in the last after Lloyd got his second he then missed one from a similar position and Monfries missed from 30 out in front)

All in all, a bad night, Brisbane were very good up forward and we weren't, not suggestive of where we are at.

Re: Sheeds weekly ramblings - 03/05/2009

Myers is a massive concern. His ability to do nothing in all his senior games this year is a worry. Seeing Wiggins:o teach Myers a lesson was something that stuck in my mind that night and Myers simply isn't doing enough to warrant a spot in the side. His kicking has been atrocious and he looks slow compared to all others.

We don't win up at Brisbane so I wouldn't be too concerned. They were slotting goals from the boundary whilst we were missing regulation set shots. It happens. I expect a stronger showing this week against the Hawks.

Re: Sheeds weekly ramblings - 03/05/2009

I thought he played all the games last year. Was it 25 games, 24 goals or the other way around?

Rioli was definitely rested for one or 2 weeks.

Even Joel Sellwood was rested for one or 2 weeks in 2007.

Re: Sheeds weekly ramblings - 03/05/2009

Just as an aside, Proud had 16 possessions on Saturday night - his best game for the season.

And if you read the match ups you would have known that Myers was on Proud in the second quarter only .
He played on Polkinghorne after half time ;)

Who said I don't always see the games? I eventually see all of them. Nice on there tiger.

I guess people here are having a right laugh seeing you defend Myers. He's been horrible and terrible and yet your argument is that he did ok on Proud and Polkinghorne. Who the *** are these guys? Are they cricketers?

Please go watch some more kids play and let the big boys talk about AFL. ;)

If you have watched other Carlton games, Wiggins has made more experienced defenders than Myers look stupid this year.

disagree. In fact, it's nice to hear from someone who actually knows what they're talking about, and who goes to games and training; as opposed to someone who "eventually" watches games on tv, and is suffering from an unrequited crush on Cyril Rioli.

It's a joke that you make a post like this denigrating someone who actually goes to games & training & who obviously knows a hell of a lot more about the club & team than you or I.

You talk like you're an expert - from watching games on TV! You bag Myers, yet you have no idea what goes on off the ball!

People are having a laugh at someone alright, and I'll give you the tip, it ain't ant555

Well said. I often haven't agreed with ant, but lately I can't fault him, really. This entire ant v kelvin feud is a no brainer. A guy who has stats to back him up, watches and studies games for a living, has no reason to posses bias towards any of our players; versus a flog who posts comments on games he hasn't even watched on TV, is a serial pest, and generally a pessimist.

The whole debate is pretty irrelevant now anyway as it seems that Myers will be playing this weekend based on Knights's presser and its likely he will be getting a bigger job than Proud and Polkinghorn.

The MC obviously think he is doing the right thing at the moment and who am I to argue with them.

It just annoys me that he gets a leave pass from suporters but if McPhee or Dyson stuff up a handball we see thread after thread denigrating them.

If he goes okay this weekend I'll be the first person prasing him. If however he puts in a poor one then I will call him out on it - there are no favourites with me.

I know you're a realist and a fair man, so all I'm gonna say is:

McPhee: 146 games
Dyson: 67 games

Myers: 13 games

That's the difference, but I get where you're coming from

Re: Sheeds weekly ramblings - 03/05/2009

I'd like to thank the people that once again turned this into a Kelvin Sheedy argument instead of a purely football one.

I'm not sure I've said anything out of the ordinary but hey lets attack the poster when you don't have any arguments football wise.

I'll stick to talking footy while the rest of you can keep punching.

hahahaha oh you poor little diddums. You've got to be kidding me! I must have been imagining this post then?

I didn't think you could possibly lose any more credibililty, but you just managed it. Incredible

It's an argument between myself and Ant and we clip each other around the ears. We lock into a football discussion and don't see eye to eye a few times but at least for the most part we back it up with examples, stats and anything that can be useful.

Why do you feel the need to chime in and provide nothing of value to the discussion apart from trying to ascertain whether I watch or study games.

You have no idea who I am so stop trying to make out like you know me. I could be in prison or I could be working in football or I could be on another planet and I've tapped into this weird thing called the internet.

Feel free to run around every thread chasing me. It's becoming an obsession for some on this board.

I'm going to keep on making my points regarding football and keep on having discussions with people who like to actually talk football.

Thankfully there's a few posters on here that have the balls to say what they think and can generate some discussion.

Shame on them then also. I don't expect to see Myers humiliated by Wiggins, a player lucky to be on an AFL list. Myers was serviceable last year but there is only so long people can give him before they dare criticise him. I've been on his hammer for a while because I haven't seen anything special from the kid to suggest he will be anything other then a very ordinary footballer. He'd want to pick up his game soon or he'll be in Bendigo.

Kelvin Before i read your ramblings/dribble from the Brisbane game can you please confirn that you actually bothered to watch the game this time?

Yes... you can tell by the amount of dribble I have posted on the subject.
