Does this mean that Bolton wont get a contract extension at the end of the season ;). Probably the only positive to come from this.

Melbourne sacking Norm Smith was the start of their mediocrity. This is an absolutely stupid decision, the Board should be ashamed of themselves, you can't go around treating club legends like this and there not be a fall out.

I get the feeling that the board didnt like sheedy and was taking away their limelight because he was popular in the media. If they got into the finals it would reflect badly if they didnt renew his contract so sack him now was a better option for them. They hope supporters have short memories and dont appreciate his efforts for the last 27 years.

They are dogs the way they went about it.
Apparently he does have the option to coach out the end of season...
but why bother?!

You give the club 27years of your service...
and they sack you like that..could of waited till end of season.

I'll be writing a letter,
but will fall on deaf ears.

Would ne nice if a lot of people didnt go off half arsed and actually wait to see what happens at the press conferance.
So far all the club has done is decide we need a new coach for next year and advise that there will be a joint press conferance at 12.00.
The media has run with all the rest of it and as usual the sheep factor has come in big time.

Exactly ant

on the other hand ..the club did offer him another 1 yr contract .

he said he was worth more than a 1 yr contract , and as a result , this is where it's at ...no agreement !

he chose not to take the offer up. so in a sense, he's out a job now by his own demands.

not sure if kevin's losing the plot in his old age but , why not go another year and see what happens.
here's one reason why i would'nt & maybe he thinks the same ?

personally i think he knows Essendon have a bit of a long hard run coming up..slowing older players, younger inexperienced players & not much in between.

1 yr wont see a successful rebuilding stage happen, therefore he's most likely to face the arse this time next year .

While I feel terrible that the great Sheedy has been sacked, I can't see the point in him staying as a mentor.

His image and reputation loom so large that the new coach would always be in his shadow. If they are going to sack him and go in a new direction, do it totally!

A sad day indeed :(:(:(:eek::eek::eek:

feel sorry for you supporters - he was a great coach and a magnificient spokesman for you club

he has made you club the well respected club it is today.

his work in bringing aboriginals into the game, and a accpected and respected part of the wider culture.

a sad day for essendon and its supporters

It's not just about the list, Club stability, culture, facilities are other facets a prospective coach will look at.

In any case there is enough young talent at windy hill to build off. No doubt we'll have a couple of early picks to help out that area also.

But this episode may make a coach think, 'Well , their culture and club stability just shook a bit here. Back to making a decision based on the list. Who already has the top pick youngsters already at the club rather than getting them in the 2007-8 drafts so they can come to fruition in 5 years time?'

I think a smart coach will pick the Blues, like Essendon they have a large supporter base so the potential is always there to get out of financial difficulty and improve facilities. Plus there may be more upside with players attitude regarding Pagan leaving than Sheedy

Blah blah blah. You sound like Sheedy himself.

This is nothing like what Melbourne did.

Yes we ****ed it up, but the fact is that one way or another, Sheedy had to go.

Tough day I suppose. Apparently another rumour is that he was offered the one year contract with Voss as assistant coach for Voss to take over the year after, but Sheeds wanted more.

His PA apparently has said that he will finish out the year also which is good.

But I'm sure you're all hearing the rumours too.

But thanks for everything Sheeds.

Has a Bomberboy with a Black heart and a Red slash.

I want to thank Sheeds for the Four Premierships, you took over the Essendon Football Club at a very difficult time in its history.

In saying that while I knew this day would come, I'm disappointed that the Board seems to have allowed outside influences to impact and by that I mean the lengthy list of Clubs looking for a new coach.

I'm disappointed that the Board seems to have been playing games the other day.

F**k off back to your own board smartass

I couldn't be happier.

Sheedy has seen the AFL go slip away from him at a rate of knots since 2000. He reaised the bar with a team that breached the salary cap rule and couldn't maintain the pace.

Sheedy will go again next year as there are 3 other clubs without a coach and probably 7 or 8 that would sack their current coach for Sheedy. He needs a new club, Essendon needs a new coach and the game will benefit from it.

The board giving him the ar$e now is not the worst thing in the world. It gives him time to focus on what he will do and where he will be next year. It also gives Essendon fans a chance to say goodbye to him if he choses to coach for the rest of the year. Sacking him after the final game would have been a disgrace because he deserves a send off.

Sit back and enjoy. He's been great for footy but he was stale at Essendon.

I've enjoyed disliking him for so long and I'm sure I will be able to do it again next year when he's coaching some other team.

and you want to know why Mark Harvey wouldn't commit to Freo.
They've known for a few months (the administration that is) that it was
time for a new era.

I think your football club needs a new direction and you can only
embrace change. It's good & healthy for the future of the game,
as much as Sheedy has been for the past 27 years

Are you listening to the press conference ?
Care to retract your over reaction response.

By the sounds of thing Sheedy has known as well.
