It had to happen, and this year was the best year for this to happen. IMO we will not get a better chance to get a decent replacement other than this year. My preference would be Laidley,Thomson, or Guy McKenna

Love the great man and honestly don't think he has much cattle to work with it at the moment but I do think that Essendon could do a lot worse then get someone in with fresh ideas and a different vison. It might invigorate the club a bit..
Take a punt on Michael Voss

May change now though.....

Why? He's said he likes to be in the background and likes the adminstrative side, doubt he'd change his mind now as he would have had an inkling there may have been the possibility of change this season

Without having much of an idea about GOD's involvment at Essendon, but I only ever see him in the coaches box on the phone, quarter time huddles talking to the players and taking training drills at Windy Hill. Just out of curiosity what's his administartive role?

'Tis a sad day in Essendon football.

Round 22 will mark the end of an era. 2 legends out of the game, perhaps forever?

Sheedy and Hird, will leave to a crowd of 80,000 in round 21. I say round 21 because that's the last time the duo will be coaching/playing in Melbourne.

At 5:10pm, these 2 will walk the field for the last time for the Essendon football club.

Kudos to them! And I congratulate them on such wonderful careers!

I'll be definately going to that match against Richmond. Nothing will stop me from going!

It was going to happen eventually . The logic doesnt befuddle me at all . There are a lot of aspects of the way we have played for the last 5 years that are not really acceptable and im not just talking about the win loss ratio.
I had been pretty neutral as far as new coach v Sheedy but if the board had made the decision then todays events had to unfold. I have stuck up for him plenty of times but things come to an end .

I've dropped by to gauge how Essendon supporters are taking this, and your posts 'ant555' are the most logical...
Cheers :thumbsu:

Hey, what about the finals?;) Only a nuff-nuff would write us off now!!!

Maybe this will be enough for us to play to our potential for 4-quarters in a match (the only other time we did that this year was against Brisbane and possibly Adelaide).

Hopefully he is coaching the last 6 rounds, wouldn't want the relationship ruined ala K.B.

Would love him back in another role in the future.

P.S. Poach Laidley :thumbsu:

No No, bad call. If you believe that you wont make finals for a while now then this would be a certainty if you poached this bloke..

His record good this year but he's not the coach you may think he is.. his overall record is terrible and he should count himself lucky the roos have done something this year.

My tips:

Essendon: Neale Daniher
Melbourne: Mark Riley/Chris Connolly (although not happy bout that)
Carlton : Michael Voss
Richmond: Kevin Sheedy
Fremantle: ??

And Laidley no certainty to remain

Id Reckon your right with Carlton and Melbourne; Connolly will have that.

Richmond would be a suprise, doubtfulthey can pay out Wallace

Freo will be either Harvey or Bond

We'll have either Harvey or McKenna

and Laidley will stay

Oh yeah, but it's gonna be tough. We need to win 4/5 of our final games.

Meh, we all have different opinions. I like the attacking style he's played this year, which would be good with our forward line.

I also like how they go in hard and are committed and wouldn't take crap from the Lovetts and co for playing soft and not having a go, something we've been lacking.

I am absoulutely gutted.
When I heard the news I was so shocked.
Hate the bombers board, hate the afl.
They lied to us about not talking about sheeds contract till the next couple of weeks
THe bloody AFL choose perth to be the final game for hird and sheeds.
I am teary eyed about his sacking

will he be there for Sunday?
im shattered can feel a tear coming to the eye
thank you so much for your contribution to the essendon footy club Kevin Sheedy

Was very shocked and angry this morning but after the press conference i'm comfortable with the decision, sad but comfortable. And now it is very exciting the prospect of a new coach. But for tonight i'm gonna drink a bottle of red watching the winning grand finals and salute a great coach and great man.

The board made the right decision if they had to get rid of him but I am unhappy about them telling us that they would not talk about his contract till several weeks time.
