Should Gilly be rested?

Might be an idea just to see what kind of form Hadden is in prior to the WC. IMO, they should have played him earlier - the one-off match is not ideal.

you can't rest everyone at the same time, otherwise it'd be a seconds team.

ponting, and most of the bowlers have been rested throughout the tournament.

you may find gilly may rest during the chappell-hadlee series in new zealand coming up next week, who knows.

when its all said and done and if rumors are true he can rest much more after the world cup if he hangs up his gloves in the one day arena.

Yes, he should be rested more often than he is, he is about 34, and last night he looked worn out, Captaining and keeping, Haddin should get at least 1 game in Australia to see if he is the real deal

Gilchrist or any wicketkeeper who opens the batting are the only players in ODI teams that may deserve a break during a long series.

How the hell does a bowler that may bowl 10 overs and bat at #8,9,10 or 11 need a break after 2 or 3 games in a row.It makes them seem like a bunch of soffkochs.

As I have said a few times in various threads, Gilly has become very problematic as a one day opener. I'm not sure it's due to him being jaded. I believe it's just the way he plays and maybe as he's getting older there will be fewer of his killer days.

Yer, rest him the match before the finals, to have him nice and fresh for the finals. Hopefully he can improve on his batting aswell.

Yes, it's been way overdue, as he should have been rested by now. Haddin needs to play a game sooner rather than later, perhaps he will take Gilly's spot in the upcoming Chappell-Hadlee series. At the moment I can't see Gilchrist missing tomorrow's game against New Zealand at the MCG and any of the finals.

I agree. Cannot see him going to New Zealand. But really should have been rested mid series!!
