Where is the responsibility of the staff

If that bar girl knew he had placed $400 in the machine she has an obligation to report it to her manager and let him take the correct course of action for an obvious problem gambler.

$400 in a machine....FN idiot deserves to be bent over by ya!

where is this immense pub that lets you have free coffee?

You did the guy a favour. he would only have poured the $1100 back into the machine again and made himself a bigger loser than he already is.

Well I do not feel guilty at all now.:)
Certainly a handy bonus and I have used $800 and paid the credit card off. The remaining cash will fund a night out this weekend.

One day I'll be as good a gambler as you.

But pokies are f***ing gay. Can't possibly comprehend spending money where you put your faith in a machine designed to generate income for the other party. Not to mention I have no idea how you win on those things.

I'll stick to sportsbetting and racing :D

Good win....You shouldn't feel guilty...the man should only blame himself for feeding $400 into that hungry machine,Take the cash and spoil yourself to a extra big Coffee from the deli for the rest of the week.

Guilt isn't even an option.

Should really have given old mate who put his coin through earlier a good hearty wink before you were on your way. Also struggle/fumble with the money and act as if the wad is too thick too fit in your wallet (act agitated to further exaggerate the point) just to pwn harder.

I'd do that (have done that) but you're probably a nicer bloke than me.

Hate this sort of shit from the bar girl.

Why do people feel like they need to interfere?

She isn't getting paid any less if you decide to roll into the pub for a quick coffee.

Good win. Should have offered the old fella $1 just to set him over the edge, whilst telling him that was all you had put in, then wished him good luck.

I'd probably shout the guy a beer. I'm nice like that. :D

Once gave a relatively distant relative a tatts ticket for their birthday, and jokingly said if they win we can split it. They won about 45k. I got a my $6.80 back.

That's why I refuse to buy anyone else a lotto ticket/scratchie.

Could never live with myself if they ended up winning big - because IT WAS MY TICKET DAMMIT.

Was out tonight, saw an elderly guy put $100 into a pokie machine in the space of 10 minutes. Felt sorry for the guy but what can I do?

never understand how people can put so much money into poker machines. but then at the same time i can understand how people do because they are the perfect machines. i'll put through about $10 a year just to kill a bit of time at some stage. i also tend to make friends with a lot of irish people who have never seen them and wanna see what happens. they quickly realise how shit it is.

but they are the perfect money making machines. the lights that subconciously attract people and the payout structure - rather than just giving 85 cents consistently to every dollar put in, they pay off about 3 dollars for the first 19 dollars and the pay out about 14 dollars on the last dollar so it makes people feel like big winners when they hit it big.

they really are ruthless. i hate the things. one of the great things about melbourne compared to sydney is how few there are. they also put a big dent in the live music scene in sydney because they are so much more profitable for a pub to have then a band. most people would be shocked to know that about 5 years ago the average poker machine made about 80k a year profit for the pub. i think that figure has since been reduced a bit to try and make them less attractive to licensee's (reduced it by more stricly policing how much money each machine gives back, and by introducing more taxes on them).

I sort of had the opposite situation at the pokies.
I put a $20 in a machine and started spinning.
Then I noticed someone had left money where the coins get dispensed (now apparantly this is slot-jockey talk for "I reserve this machine")
So i get the free spins and start the feature. Then the guy who left his money in there comes up and cried how I've violated slot-jockey ettiquette for playing a reserved machine. He cried fowl to the bar skank and she agreed with him.
He was a burly looking bloke so I decided not to get punched in the head over $20.
Then my free spins ended up winning this bloke about $600. Worst part was after I had just won him a cool $600 he comes up and abuses me because I was only playing 1 credit per line and not 5 effectively costing him $2400. This guy went off his nut at me. Most of the population would be stoked to win $600 off $20 that wasn't theirs in the first place. This guy berated me for a solid 5mins. I was only a freshfaced 19yo at the time so didn't bite back.
Moral: slot-jockey's are homeless phooks!!

I thought its an Australia wide law to give Pokies' winnings over a grand by check, not sure how the OP managed to get it in cash. As for the feeling of guilt - stuff that.

PS. Once won 10K in one spin during a lunch break at work, probably made me square with what i've put in over the years. Haven't touched that shit for yonks now.
