Extra List spots will hopefully be linked to pre-listing the NGA prospects.

The Starcevich play is interesting let's hope the club haven't over committed to him and find themselves NOT getting that allowance from the league...that could be a Matt Clarke special.

Imagine the package is also asking to pre-list NGA's over the next couple of years along with the added rookie/list spots.

Benefit of that is it gives WC some extra picks to play with in trade talks for players or to move up in the draft. It doesn't dilute the draft further with more picks than already have been added. It doesn't lower the value of picks because they're forced to trade them away.

Honestly, it's a smart move by WC to basically say to the AFL, let's just cut through the BS and circus by asking for draft picks that would be on-traded for Starcevich anyway (since Lions won't get compo for losing him), and still get the Pick 2 compo. They have to know that the compo is Band 1, else they wouldn't ask for this exemption.

Bit rich coming from James Hird who was happy to plead random ignorance over the worst, most scummy systematic drug cheating scheme the AFL has ever seen. Stick your morals up your backside.

Rory Laird saying we need to get senior players in as leaders. Which way do you want it? Blow all of our draft picks on senior players for leadership and good vibes? 'A natural cycle that every club goes through' - no it's not, we are historically, relegation level bad. We have moved on the previous CEO, Senior Coach, soon to be the rest of his coaching staff and trim the top off the remaining players on the list. Not like we are trying to grind through with the tin rattling for more more more.

We're not even asking for priority picks at this point - it's just a little sweetener on top of what we're already entitled to... and as mentioned above, priority picks which the AFL request to be on-traded would be used for this anyway... in this instance without putting those artificial picks into wider circulation!

Can't we just trade like a 2nd rounder or something for Starcevich keys ???

and doing that will not affect the Allen band 1 compensation ?

We could do that certainly but what our request is trying to achieve is to eliminate the need for that to happen

We get Starcevich as a FA and keep the draft pick we’d otherwise have to use to protect the compensation pick we get for Allen

The effect is like giving us a priority pick without actually giving us a priority pick. It’s really is a pretty smart request

Do clubs get punished when they add a free agent at no draft cost?

The AFLs view is its swings and roundabouts.

One year you are disadvantaged.

Then your clubs gains advantage in getting a player free of draft capital.

Where the AFL has failed is that some clubs naturally attract more quality free agents than they lose. And the AFL is allowing inequalities to grow under their poorly devised policies.

Simple fix. Put limits on clubs.
Would extra salary cap for lower end clubs entice free agency , cash vs success

What sends the wrong message Hird? If the wrong message is that all teams have to do is go through 4 seasons of hell and win sfa games just to get a free agent concession, then go ahead. It's hardly going to move the needle much for us and doesn't affect any other teams.
I don't think any other teams are going to be jumping to follow our rebuild blueprint.

He either has a blind dislike of the Eagles or he's a dunce that doesn't understand the nuances of the situation. Either way he shouldn't be getting a national audience to spout that vitriol.

I think it is actually a clever request by us; it doesn't hurt any other teams or compromise the draft. Unlike what we've had to put up with the last few years with priority picks getting handed out to North.

What they should do is remove the minimum salary cap spend or the maximum list size

That way clubs at the bottom of the ladder aren’t forced to artificially inflate player salaries to reach the minimum spend or they can list additional players

Didn't stop the AFL giving north 5 priority picks despite an even bigger heist by them when they received pick 3 for spud Mckay

Prop up your own and sabotage the rest, pretty obvious where the bias and favouritism has raised its ugly head.

When the Board or Commission of any Organisation, appoints key people based on tokenism, and then tolerate and accept incompetence from them, the very fabric of the Institution starts to unravel.

Hardly any surprise that when the lunatics start running the asylum , cluster fu(ks start occurring.

And boy oh boy haven't they appeared in the compromised drafts, sorry not compromised just complexed, but to name just one.

The first thing you need to do to fix a problem, is admitting that you have one.

Had her wings clipped earlier this year, but really needs to be shunted out of the building.

And while the AFL Commission is at it, that Clown Dillion should accompany her out the door.

I think it's time the clubs took some power back from the AFL commission.
Amateurs like Kane and Dillon are total disasters and have ruined the game. Clubs need to have more say on matters relating to playing the game.
The commission should look after commercial matters relating to TV rights, Player Insurances, legal matters etc etc.
Does anyone know what the process is to fire Dillon and Kane ?

Put her and him on her broomstick and piss them off, They would have to be the worst 2 appointments the V/aFL has ever made. If the people who were responsible for the appointment of those morons are still there then they should be pissed off too. It's about time the existing AFL commissioners got involved and sacked them. Suck it up and admit mistakes were made. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I don't know how anyone with this CV ends up at one of the most important jobs in the AFL

Look she may be brilliant, but less than 2 years as a junior lawyer at a small legal firm who only represent survivors of institutional childhood sexual abuse before leveraging that into AFL world.

Head of Football Operations at North when the seeds of destruction were planted at the club. Now EGM Football at AFL.

It's quite a ride. I'd be sceptical of any male or female that had that career path.

Some people are just great at failing their way upwards. With this track record I'd say there's a reasonable chance she'll be Prime Minister within the next 10 years.

Everyone will cry out about it being sexist but she was a ****ing diversity hire. It was that simple.

If they wanted a woman in the role peggy o'neil from richmond was the one to hire. Instrumental along with Brendon Gale in the rise of Richmond.

Peggy O'Neil is extremely well credentialed but I doubt in her 70s that she wants to go from bring Chancellor of a University to a full time role in the AFL.

What gets me with this diversity nonsense is that you as the person getting employed. How do you live with yourself that you've been given a job as the 100th best option, a fraud?
