I think its time Geelong went back to the basics.

Man on Man accountable football. IF u get it down the backline, thump it long to a one on one contest. If our man doesnt win, make a damm tackle and hold the ball in.

Enouhg of this running of ur opponent stuff, we get absolutely killed when that happens

We need to apply pressure all over the ground, and be ready to run and run hard on the rebound. Richmond have pretty average skills at the best of times, put sustained pressure on them and if we kill them on the rebound we'll blow them off the park.

Start our best clearance team in the midfield....Bartel, Selwood and Chappy or Gaz with Ottens in the ruck, Ling on the half forward line, and leave the forwardline open to give space for our tall forwards to lead into. Down back have Scarlo on Richo, Egan on Schultz and Mackie on Riewoldt if he does make his debut.

On paper we should kill them all over the ground. The thing that worries me is if they enter the game with a similar mindset to the one they had last week. Chappy and others have said they won't, but how many times have we heard something similar? In essence, if we come to play, we should smash them.

disagree... the plan to run off your opponent is good, it creates scoring oppurtunities...where it breaks down for us is we have too many players with poor disposal and when the ball rebounds hard we get killed.

If the disposal is improved we can and will beat anyone, this is the one area that needs to be worked on, Sydney are the only team I have seen win a flag using negative tactics and even then they knew when to attack. They have a few champions that can pinpoint delivery to their excellent forwards and even then they only won by a point.

If we started playing 70's-80's man on man contested footy we would be flogged by 150 points each week. The game has changed, you can't even do that in Suburban footy anymore.

that's right danA.

is SriLankancat all there? that thread on the mainboard....well words cannot describe.

I know - it doesn't matter whether we are 0-8, 2-10, we are a chance at the flag according to him.

Blind positivity with no substance - no wonder Geelong fans get a reputation for accepting mediocrity.

Hey dude, that has been one of our BIGGEST mistakes. There are 2 people in particular that keep doing that and it nearly ALWAYS results in turnovers. We need players like Joel Selwood who get into space, run forward to advantage and pick out a forward to kick to. Good creative play. Bugger this long bomb stuff, it's a big failure.

Blind positivity with no substance?

Our backline is quite miserly compared to other teams...yes we struggle when under pressure but so do lots of other team, all the more reason to get it out of there as quick as possible. Scarlett and Milburn are up their with the best. Egan is developing nicely.

Our midfielders are not of the class of Judd or Goodes but think about it:

J Bartel is a fantastic player who has a good allround game

M Rooke when he gets back will be very good at doing a tagging job

D Wojinski is fast and can kick long gaols, just needs to back himself a bit more i think and maintain his composure

P Chapman, im sure a lot of teams would want his toughness, he can kcik goals too

Our forwards are quite good although i still think our forward line needs better structure

B Ottens -a good mark and can kick clutch goals, just needs better delivery and needs a small forward playing at his feet

G Ablett - needs to work on his finishing but can win a lot of contested possessions

S Johnson - a creative player who can be electrifying

C Mooney - when he gets soem finishing skills can kick about 60 goals a year

Youngsters: we have some exciting youngsters with Selwood, Hawkins, N Ablett, Varcoe, Djekkura coming through.

I know we are certainly not up there with the best at the moment but i genuinely feel we do have the potential to be there.

Our game plan needs a lot of work but hey we can get there.

Clutch goals?

I remember Ottens kicked a couple of big ones against Port Power in 2005 at AAMI.

He has missed some CLUTCH goals when it mattered since. On a few occasions too.
