This bloke is making me sick in the guts!
This guy is a puppet and a soft***k, if he can't stand
the coach and doesn't have the balls to get rid of him
then it is time for this bloke to pisso**.
This great club has been to hell and back and with this
guy at the helm we are heading back to hell!
It's Denis's job to build the list back up and the president to focus
on making this club financially viable and turn it into a great brand
like it used to be!
Doesn't sound like he is doing the above which means it's time
to go, GOODBYE

Are you going to pay out the $1.2 million owed on Pagan's contract? Certainly the club is not in a position to do so, therefore Smorgon sacking Pagan is not even an option. On the other hand Smorgon has been doing everything that Elliott & even Collins should have been doing in trying to get the club back on its feet. Perhaps if the club had opened the books to the AFL a few years ago & started rebuilding our playing list at the same time, we may be looking a little better as a club, than what we currently do. Smorgon has been president for less than a year, yet is copping the brunt of the criticism for the situation the club is in. Our problems don't belong to 2006, they go way back.

Dont stress too much as it is only a matter of time. There is alot of talk from alot of people but the more these incidents occur the more likely it is that there will be change.

The last couple of days have riled people who have been sitting back and observing, trying to keep the peace.

A little bit tough to blame Smorgon for this, as he has come in after Jack all but ruined the club, and Collo did a good job to stop the bleeding, and to start turning the club around.

We just need to keep "picking" away at the debt, and in a couple of years time, when the on-field results start to come, then i'm sure the debt will really start to dilute.

One thing I will say though, and that is I don't think Smorgon will be our prez long term. I just dont think he has the right persona to leed the club for a long amount of time.

With respect BT, and you know I do mate, but you have been saying this for a while.

Will we be seeing anything happening off-field between now and say the start of the H&A season?

You couldn't say he has galvanised the club could you ?

Hi HBF, I know I have said it before but believe me you have no idea how close Smorgon was to going prior to the last board meeting. Last minute lobbying (the night before) of Mathieson saved him.

Smorgon handled it very well last time and people decided to sit back and observe for a while, however the events of the last 2 days will not do the current board any favours.

These things take time to eventuate. Let me tell you that the year Jack was voted out Collins and the others were planning it from March of that year (It took months).

I am hesitant in saying too much because there are so many moves being made that it is like a game of chess, just when you think you have it worked out an unexpected move is made. I would expect that the murmurings will continue until mid-jan, then more concrete details will come to the surface.

Telephones were running hot today.

I think I speak for most of us BT when I say that I am getting sick and tired of the club going from one problem to the other.

This latest episode with Pagan has just rounded off the year beautifully for us. I'm not sure what the exact answer is, but change is needed, and quickly.

i said it last night and i will say it again lets bring the blue on and get it over and done with.....till then with an odvious divided board we will struggle

I agree, this has absolutely angered me and I have spent the majority of the day on the telephone discussing this situation.

After Smorgon came out and presented a strong united front last month people were prepared to cut him some slack but this situation has rammed home the reality.

Changes will occur and we will have to be patient but they are inevitable. Even the AFL are happy with the thought of new leadership.

There is plenty of discussion over coffee tonight I assure you.

Whilst I appreciate the info you post, I, like many others, are sick and tired of "plenty of discussion."

As HBF pointed out, action is needed. Now I know these things take time to come into play but can we really afford any more of this crap within the club?

The quicker something is done the better.

All they did was present outside the Social Club and then we saw the photo in the Hun today under Trevor Grants column.

Hardly a united front from where I am standing.

So BT instead on something happenning in December, which, correct me if I'm wrong, was your previous line.........now it might happen sometime in the next ........oh.........6-12 months.

Wow, you really have your finger on the pulse their. Hey, just heard that Denis Pagan will be under some pressure to keep his job next year........red hot rumour off the press...........reliable source.........pencil it in............possibly.....

Actually Vinny, its Wayne Hughes job to build the list back up.
Its Denis' job to tell them where to kick the ball, and how to win games.
You don't need to put another s after Denis' either..........just a small point.:thumbsu:

No need to be a smart ar*e BB.
BT has been on the money so far by what he has been reporting, so there is no need to take out your frustration on him mate.

Smorgon has been on the board since 2002 and was part of the Collins board which re-signed Pagan and he has done stuff all to put this club back where we want it to be.

Are you forgetting he tried to sack Pagan before getting cold feet because didn't have the balls to go through with it?

Or pay him out himself when the less wealthy Brown was willling to put his money where his mouth is? :thumbsu:

He's a lame duck President like Kernahan is lame at everything bar football. He constantly putting his foot in his mouth before backtracking the next day, ie. when he appeared on TFS and stated we couldn't pay our players. A half full view here means the ship will go without the Captain because he'll find another glamourous position to do to pump up his ego.

He has to go sooner rather than later or we're likely to remain the AFL's new pet.

Our time will come in March when we can vote at the AGM for our preferred candidates it's only 12 weeks away,be patient.Don't forget Smorgon's excuse for delaying this event if you can remember is the accountants did finalise the books for the AGM.he thinks we're all stupid. He knows by having the elections for vacancies on the board on the eve of the new season he would believe majority of supporters will not opt for change. How right or wrong will he be is up to us as members to determine this.

But who are these preferred candidates? As you say it is 12 weeks away, but with Christmas/New Year almost upon us, before we know it we will be down to 10 weeks & nothing really happens in January, so take another 4 weeks off & we are down to 6 weeks. So when are these 'preferred' candidates going to reveal themselves & their platform, so us members can make an informed choice of who we want to run our club?

Who are the 2 wealthy businessmen that want to join the board, as stated in Damien Barrett's article in the Hun? Why so much secrecy? As far as I am concerned I will vote for those that I believe have the most to offer to our club. Of course those who choose to hide in the shadows & not give us a full rundown on who they are & what they can offer, cannot expect to get my vote ahead of those we already know about.

By all means, bring on a vote, spill the whole board, but it must be an open & transparent process.

I am a little intrigued by some of your statements. How is it Smorgon's fault that we haven't climbed the ladder (I assume that is what you mean when you talk about putting the club back where we want it to be). It was hardly Smorgon's or Pagan's fault that the club had such ordinary players like Prendergast, Sporn, Davies, Livingstone etc. Or such spineless players as Murphy, Beaumont, Manton, Campo etc. Make sure you have read elgranto's thread about players that debuted between 1996 & 2003. It gives a bit of a clue as to why our on-field performances have been so bad for most of the last 5 seasons.

In relation to your comments about Fraser Brown, I paraphrase Lara Bingle "where the bloody hell is he"? Talk about cold feet. Didn't he promise to deliver Ratts, Braddles plus other ex-champions back to Princes Park? Guess what Ratts & Braddles are back, but no sign of 'The Dog', though. I imagine, given it wasn't his money he was going to be using, that he didn't really have the clout he thought he did.

Your comments about Kernahan intrigue me, too. I know Sticks hasn't survived just because he is a good bloke. He plays the politics of football admin very well. But the man has given 20 years continuous service to the club, including sticking around (no pun intended) during the last 5 miserable years, while other favorite sons of the club have thrown their hands in the air & said it is all too much. Did SOS really think he could just walk back into the club & demand a position, after he got elected to the board & then just quietly sneaked away? Did Swan McKay & Ken Hunter not have the stomach to tough out these hard times? These are the people we needed to stay at the club & work through these difficult times. People with knowledge of how a football club operates, of what is required both off field & on field to be successful.

It is no coincidence that the club's success of the 60s, 70s, & 80s came when we had ex-players on the board such as Kevin Hall, Wes Lofts, Laurie Kerr, Bruce Comben etc. We can't afford to chase Sticks away, or Adrian Gleeson for that matter. Our board needs to have some members who have a football brain, not just those with a business acumen & they need to have the stomach to stay for the long term.

You have your head in the sand about Kernahan's abilities as a board member(eerily similar to why we should have dumped another CHF Lance) and drew a conclusion that Smorgon was blame for the football side of things when I was referring to his achievements as President.

So I'm not going to waste my breath countering your absurd post.

Some people would rather do nothing and be a martyr Joan of Arc because they have a ridiculous blind faith they'll be saved because "We're Carlton, ******** the rest!".

Not any more.

Worst. Moderator. Ever.
