My mate took the photo himself while I was standing right beside him. I clearly would not go to the trouble of finding a photo for credibility on a forum ffs.
Nonono. On this forum, was wondering where aha.

Had a minor encounter when I was younger with a brown snake. Was with family in the bush and we were just hanging around and uncle spotted a brown snake hanging around us, so us kids were hustled away pretty quickly and he killed it.

Second time I was about 17 leaving the house and opened the door and a tiger snake was half a meter from my front door. My mum was behind me and I just sort of stopped and told her. She had a look and we went back inside and called a ranger who came and got rid of it. We live in the suburbs so it was a pretty rare sight but I was proud I kept my balls in tact and didnt shreek or anything because I really ****ing hate them

Easily the worst part about them is the shock factor like standing on one and having it wrapped around your leg or just having one fly out of a bush and bite your leg etc.

Hearing lots of snake stories atm, think a lot of them are on the move with the warmer weather

Was fishing at 6 mile creek in Port Hedland standing near the mangroves when I heard this rustling noise. Turned around and there was this whopping big King Brown slithering past about two meters away. Just the other day I was riding around the lake near my house when I noticed this bloke standing off to the side down this access road. Thought he looked a bit odd the way he was just milling around and looking at us when he points to the bike path and there is a tiger snake slithering across it. Never seen one before until then, thought it was a little out of its range, given that they like to be close to water...well from what I've been told anyway.

I find snakes fascinating, enough so that I did a snake handling course and became a certified snake catcher. Never got the chance to catch one in someones backyard in the time I had it. If I ever come across one I'll just let it go on its way, I'd never kill it.

Had several encounters over the years. While I used to be petrified of them when I was younger, all the experience i've had with them has reduced that considerably since then. They'll clear the area at high speed if they know you're there.

yeah snakes really arent too bad. i grew up on a farm and now live on the outskirts of town so have had quite a few encounters. if its the right weather/places that a snake is likely to be then obviously just do your best to avoid them & dont be ignorant ie wearing thongs in long grass etc

99% of the time they will be more scared of you and just slither away (except tigers? arent they meant to be pretty agressive? i only grew up with brownies and red bellies). had one come at me once (i think i may have been near its eggs/nest and that was pretty damn scary.

spiders on the other hand.... nopenopenope do not want

30 posts in and not a single joke about how big someones snake is.

Impressive.
Yep, I was hesitant in making this thread, expecting a 500 posts worth of penis jokes.

i once woke up with a mans penis staring me in the face - scariest moment of my life

did i do it right?

Absolutely petrified. A couple of weeks ago I went out the backyard at night time. I suddenly stopped frozen when I saw a long snaky figure on the ground. It took me ten minutes to convince myself that it was a stick before I could move.

My dog there are a lot of scaredy cats in this thread, when I was 13 I had a baby pet tiger snake. I've also had a 2 & a half metre diamond python, snakes are fantastic. :thumbsu:

My old man owned an olive python. I could feed it but I wouldn't touch it at all

Good man then. I would have called the RSPCA, but that's me.

I get that they only do, but I'm still terrified of them.

I hate spiders more than snakes. But I'd still be shit scared if I came across one (never came across one before)

I've seen a few snakes on the tracks through bushland near here where I sometimes go jogging, they usually come out at this time of year after hibernating in winter to sun themselves. No idea what types of snakes they are, they usually take off into the bush when they hear you coming so never really get a good look at them. Nearly stood on one once when I was running around a corner which was pretty scary, I think it was as scared as I was though and bolted.

Also saw a snake when I was in the States, it was in the middle of a street in this town in Virginia. From a distance I thought it was just a piece of rubbish, when I realised it was a snake I quickly took off back the other way. I didn't even realise they had snakes there until then but apparently they are pretty common around there, although you don't normally expect to see one in the middle of a street.

.

Had a couple of incidents - tiger snake rearing up at me at the golf course when I went looking for a ball, in fact, last weekend at a diff course had a dugite slide on by. Had a brown fall out of the curtains at a neighbours when we went to open them. Also had a python try to eat my thumb - interesting experience.

So I was brushcutting around the backyard today, and came across a Brown Snake. Scared the living shit out of me, I yelled 'SNAKE', and my Dad took it out with a shovel. It made me think that I wish they didn't exist. Bastard of an animal, they are (imo)

I've never really encountered a snake before but why did your dad have to kill it?

Don't want them to exist? Enjoy those rodent plagues then.

I always ascribe to a mutual respect policy with snakes, I expect it to to know that I could kill it pretty easily, just as I respect that it can do precisely the same to me. Has never failed me thus far with the poisonous ones, and the non poisonous are actually quite a lot of fun. I like snakes.
