A serious question here....
I know the answer is that they probably won't but what would have to happen for the Power to get up ????
Here's my 40 cents.....
1. Where are Port superior.....not much. Primus is playing very well so we may have a natural advantage in the ruck. The key will be getting use of it from there. Essendon showed last year they can lose the ruck but still win it out of the middle. 1 for Port.
on pure match ups I reakon that's about it.
BUT....
If I look at how Port have played late last year and through 2001 it has been fast, first to the ball and with multiple scoring options. Clearly they need to do this against the bombers. We will lose if our forward line is too predictable. Having Wanganeen & Burgoyne down their helps in that regard and if Tredrea is back then that too can only help. I think we will then match up quite well....Wellman on Tredders, Fletcher on Cornes...we then have CCC as a leading fwd, Wangannen and Burgoyne as "Jeff Farmer" types with Cornes and Lockwood as marking targets also.
Our defence ??? I will have Waiklin on Lloyd and I would put Montgomery on Hird as Monty can play tall or small which is Hird's great strength. Mead on Lucus which leaves Paxman who could swap with Waiklin if Lloyd gets too good. I think the thing with the bombers is not so much Lloyd & Hird who are great players, but it is the other guys who step up each week in the fwd line and kick a few....this week it was Barnard....or was it Blumfield ???? Anyway, Williams can plan for Lloyd, Lucus and Hird but how do you plan for that ??
Ultimately to beat the Bombers I think Port need to win in the ruck, then get clean possesion out of the middle, creating space for our fairly dynamic forward line, and creating multiple avenues to goal (easier said than done).
I know you guys think you will win (rightly so) but I would be interested in how you would play the Bombers if you were Mark Williams ??
