So Now We're Stalking Players?

I'd be pretty confident that the club would have spoken to Cousins before the fact about doing some background checks on him, speaking to friends/family/associates etc. None of this would come as a surprise to Cousins, I just found the sensationalism in the article amusing which is why I referred to it as stalking in the title... tongue in cheek of course.

This is what I mean. People write these articles in their own words.

We probably sent a bloke out to question associates and so forth and probably to Ben's knowledge, not stalk to poor bloke. We give these journalist too much credit and believe too much of what we read.

If we didn't look deep into this matter we're very negligent because it can potentially hurt our club.

Re: Whats the take on Cousins

We need quality midfielders...............If the club doesn't trade or draft for one they are being amazingly neglegent. Priority one for the club should be a premiership and gaining the players to win us one.

That's a good point that the article may be making it seem more intrusive than it really was. But in any case, if I were Cousins yes, I would allow special conditions in a contract but would also want conditions that the club cannot indulge in these sort of investigations whenever they feel like it when he is actually signed up. That would be far too intrusive, disrespectrful and would not be acceptable when you are playing. If the club refused that, then screw them he should go to some one else like the aints.

I think people are getting overly excited about what a 30-31 year old Cousins will bring to our side. I think people are going to be disappointed next season if he does make his way to Collingwood. I personally couldn't care less if he came or not, I don't think it will get us any closer to winning a flag. I don't really think he will provide much more than Burns has for us this season given his age and time out of the game, not to mention the fact that he was starting to become injury prone (repeatedly doing hammy's at his age isn't a good sign) the last season he played. In fact I'd probably be relieved if we didn't get him as I don't think the risk is worth the reward. For me the player we should be after is Daniel Kerr, and I'll be far more pissed if he goes to another Victorian club than if Cousins does.

What a load of rubbish- this bit gives it away "the secret dossier".

The reporters looking for the next watergate- maybe they should go looking in gutters where they also find medical reports! Get fkd

More than happy to do some DD. Less than happy with club leaks. We’ve lost some senior people and we leak. Maybe not all the oars are rowing in he same direction at Lexus.

^im with you mate but considering that if we get him it would be for virtually nothing, we'd be dumb not to take the risk. even if he plays 4 games for the year, his value would still exceed what we paid for him because we paid so little..
No such thing as a free lunch as they say. The cheapest player costs a list spot and he won’t be the cheapest. The real risk though is if he relapses.

Im not worried about Collingwoods actions here, in fact I dont really care what they do, as long as its in the best interests of the club.

BUT, is it just me or does the Collingwood inner sanctum seem to resemble a leaky boat, that in all information we try to keep "secret" almost immediately finds it way into journos hands.

Obviously we have a mole at pie land, and he/she must be sought out and discovered, cause this person is hurting our reputation more then anyone or any single incident can.

Totally agree. How could this have possibly been known unless it was leaked from inside the club. Very disturbing.

It seems strange that Cousins was planning to reveal his preferred club on Grand Final day but ended up not revealing anything. I get the feeling he wasnt happy with the surveylance from the Pies and is now looking at other clubs.
For his sake i hope he doesnt go back to the Eagles, that would be a huge mistake.

I remember Cousins getting 41 possessions in his return game after 6 months off! I have a feeling he could add a bit to our slow blue colour midfield.

reckon you lot have just blown it ! why would he come to a club who did that to him and then tell the world they did it ? looks like its the saints now

All apart of the plan the club doing this will show a couple of things

1# Will show AFL he is ready to play
2# Will show other clubs how much time we have put in
3# Will give our supporters sence of ease showing that Cousins is clean and has been for a while

Would not surprise me if Channel 7 sensationalised his appearance on the show and he never had any intention of declaring where he would like to play. It could be considered draft tampering and whilst his management will make it clear to clubs where he wants to go it does not surprise me that he would not state publicly his preference.

What was he like when he was on Channel 7 did he speak well was he quiet

Was preparing the BBQ so didnt get a chance to catch it

I suspect this was leaked on purpose to show the public that the Pies are doing their DD.
I would hope not. I would hope what the public think at this point ranks a long way down the list of priorities.

Now Mark, you know that isn't reality. The club does care what the public thinks, especially its supporters and corporate sponsors.

I think they call these sorts of leaks "conditioning". The government does it every day.

Ain't that the truth.
