who do u think that we should try and target with our draft picks?

also, because we arent gna be out trying to trade older players to our club, wat young kids from other clubs should we be trying to poach, to be a chance to win a premiership in the next few years?

Laidley was saying that we are going to be using all our salary cap next season and the only way thats going to happen is if we land a few big fish. so id say we are lookin at gettin 2 young gun recruits hopefully marc murphy and rosa or something

I see no problem in trading/drafting an even spread of youth and maturity.

We have a very young side, so some older heads definitely come in handy, especially if they are still guns on the field.

I believe we will go for some ex-players this year, gain a bit more experience in certain areas, and then aim for some KP youth to shore us up in a year or two.

Still think we should target the best midfielders that are available, with no one over 22 yo. We need to retain the Youth and require more than anthing a realy solid midfield this year as imo it is the ONLY thing that let us down this year.

These 3 may be the best 3 defenders in this years draft.

Rance, Collier and Kangars. Hopefully we can land 1 or 2 of those fish.
Why are you so desperate for defenders? As I see it, Hansen and Petrie and better defenders than forwards, which allows Firrito and Gibson to play on smaller opponents.
Are only decent tall forward is Thompson, who is 30. (Edwards is a medium). I'd rather we target young forwards.
And why do you rate Kangars so highly? He doesn't seem too highly rated on the Drafts & Trading board.

Almost exactly how i see it... i can see Watt turning into our Big forward stopper with Petrie holding down CHB. Spud, Gibbo, and Pratty filling in Pockets. Hansen hopfully will be our version of Pavillich and hold down CHF. What we need desperatly is REALLY STRONG BODIED AND FAST OUTSIDE MIDFIELDERS who can break tackles and if necessary get there own ball, they must have sublime kicking skills aswell. I know this is asking a lot but hey... a guy can dream!!

Because we desperately need them. Firrito needs to get back into that midfield. We can't rely on him to do the big job.

We need that FB. If you think petrie and firrito will do the job then you have mental problems.

Hall, Fev, Lynch,Richo, etc. Spud has conceeded the most goals this year.

Kangars will be picked up around the third round or so. His a FB who has impressive agility and pace and can do the job.

Geelong is the best example of what a great defence can do. We are no where near that.

Geelong - Have a great midfield, Backline. Forward line isn't the best but can do it's job.

Kangas - What we need

Defenders, Midfielders

young defenders - pratt, firrito, gibbo, smith
young midfielders - wells, swallow, lower, smith, adams,
young wingmen - moran, ross
young forwards - hansen, edwards, LT, FLASH, warren, mcmahon,
young ruckmen - moran, mcintosh, goldstein

i think we will need 1 more key position forward, shaun mckernan in next years draft would be perfect, tall and athletic like his brother

we need 2 more defenders, a lot of people are talkn kangars up, so perhaps he would be ideal, whats he like???
i was also kinda thinking that hughes could take up chb swapping up forward

we need a coupl;e more midfielders, i think we need to poach some big fish from other clubs, ryan griffin or marc murphy would be exactly wat we need

i rekn we need to poach a midfielder between 19 - 22,

griffin, sherman, rosa, prismall, higgins, murphy

we should take punts on all of then, who else is there?

Well if the talks that Laids will be going all out to grab a big name is true then why not go for Murphy. If murphy is out of contract then we should poach him right away.

If Rance or Collier were gone, id go for kangars.
If we can't pick any of them, id go for Geelongs Scott Thompson who is a defender.

We could pick up Kangars with our 2nd or even 3rd rounder..

Personally i'm a fan of Veszpremi and Collier. If either of them are at our first pick them we should take them unless someone like Rance/Evert/Rioli fall to our pick

If Pykie comes across this thread, he seems to know alot about the upcoming draft and has a fair idea of what he is talking about

The sides who win flags will usually have a solid back 6 and without a FB, we should be looking to develop a young tall into a key FB.

Ah...Geelong...the flavour of the month. Surely now we can remodel our team after them...like we did with Sydney in 2006, and WC 2007....

We do need a FB, but our most urgent need is a KP forward and possibly an outside mid.

Thats about it :o

Actually, as much as I hate it, I don't know if anybody is safe from being considered if another team enquired about them. And I stress, its my view, not my wish. It's about value... if we can get it, we will trade. I see a lot of posts saying "Don't mention Hale/Wells", but it's just wishful thinking. If the right offer comes along, well no one is guaranteed a place. I think some of our delistings put paid to that.

Be prepared for a shock. Be relieved if it doesn't transpire.

1st pick - basically watever we can get, preferrbly a midfielder, riloli, ebert or collier

2nd pick - unless kangarrs is around at this point, id go for another midfielder, like vezpremi or myers

3rd pick - kangarrs

There's no such thing as "right offer" where Wells is concerned.

If Laids says we are going to use our whole cap then maybe he thinks we might trade for an older midfielder to support our onballers. ie. Johnstone

Johnstone might be worth a look. out of favour at Melb. What do people think? A fresh start might do him good. When he plays well he is very good but when bad... terrible. I change my mind, we don't need more players prone to having off games.

Because Hughes and McConnell deserve to spoken about in the same breath as Wellsy.
