Over 252 days, the First Fleet brought over 1500 men, women and children half way around the world from England to New South Wales. On 13 May 1787, the fleet of 11 ships set sail from Portsmouth, England. Led by Captain Arthur Phillip, this historic convoy, which later became known as the First Fleet, carried officers, crew, marines and their families, and convicts from Britain to a distant and little known land on the far side of the world.

The Fleet consisted of two Royal Navy escort ships, HMS Sirius and HMS Supply. They accompanied six convict transports, the Alexander, Charlotte, Friendship, Lady Penrhyn, Prince of Wales and the Scarborough, and three store ships, the Borrowdale, Fishburn and Golden Grove.
Then, from Portsmouth the First Fleet travelled via Tenerife and Rio de Janeiro to the Cape of Good Hope, the Fleet's last port of call before striking out for Terra Australis.

Beau Ted.
Some extensive dribble; some gold; and my platinum nom which will probably be ignored by you troglodytes.

I'm sad. I still have to listen to most of them.
I listened while watching Friday night's last quarter over and over. Twas grand.

SSwans2011 and BRAB and s**t are you going to BIGSOUND?
Will have to see what my funds are like around then, but definitely considering it as always. The main band I wanted to see (Pinch Points) have just been announced as support for Tropical * Storm's album tour  which would make it slightly easier to miss if that's what ends up happening. Such a good festival and great value, but can end up costing a few hundred bucks when I factor in food and the price of getting home etc..

That being said, would like to catch Raj Mahal, DRMNGNOW, First Beige, Hemm and Miiesha off the top of my head. Looking forward to the second half of the line-up being announced too. Bonus about BIGSOUND is there's always so many free gigs around that week that without actually going to the festival, you're still bound to catch a number of the bands you wanted to see if you have a day or 2 free.

Ah yes cool cool. Been with a friend in LA last few days and they getting along to perform - the conference side of things seems so strange + heckers for artists but I guess that’s the industry or whatever.

I've been invited to a few of the label showcases before. In some cases I took issue with how many free drinks they'd give away (I'm a nark I know). The labels can afford ridiculous tabs but for the most part (as far as I'm aware) don't pay their artists to be there. This is probably too political for the song contest though. ;)

All that being said, the festival side of things is always a great time, and Fortitude Valley is a great place to be over the few days it's happening regardless of whether or not you're even attending the festival.
