If theres one positive to take out of last week, it will speed up the return of Sonny Walters and SNOS, Sonny aint playing around no more, barely recognize him, he's gonna create nightmares with Lachy and Balatyne.

Personally, i'd like to see us attempt to go the three GOOD small forward approach that Collingwood use occasionally and Carlton use BULK, we have the talent.

i concur. it's time to stop arsing about and put walters where we are crying out for him. time to challenge his resolve at the top level and see if he wants to keep playing footy.

1) Take pressure off the forward line and finally get some movement happening there.

2) Fit and firing to make it back to the AFL

and

3) It's a derby. Increase in intensity and determination

Just three reasons why Son Son definitely needs to come back in.

I agree.

Who should we drop? JVB, Roberton or ???

JVB for certain. I think the intention was to inject him into the forward line for a spark, but he just became a fresh witches hat. That run down the wing really showed up his lack of pace. Lost ground on every step.

If Mello wasn't injured I could make a case for him sitting out still, but if he's fit, firing and the head is in gear, then get him out there - an bit more X factor wont go astray.

On a related note (probably another thread for this somewhere), is Neale OK with his ankle? - if Neale has to sit out then it becomes a no-brainer to slot Sonny in.

Yep No Brainer if Neale is injured, Son Son kicked 3 on the weekend. If however Neale is not he still has to get the nod from Ross. Pitt maybe another that is pushing for the half forward type role.

Certainly want to see some more run and carry happening against the Eagles if if we lose versus what we have been dishing up.

From that recent PR interview I am doubtful that Ross will be slotting Son-son into the side (RL just didn't seem convinced). But I'd like to see it. Also, I'd like to see how his strength in the contest has improved against bigger E-girls defenders.

careful you will be sent to conventry for such statements ;)

I think its hard to get back in to ross' good graces when trust is lost, so i think it will be very hard for michael to get back in to the side... having said that, if we are looking at talent alone, he is probably best 22, if he gets in to form, and maintains his commitment to the team and his professionalism, an in form walters will add class and god knows we need it up forward

What are you basing that on?

Would Ross cut his nose off to spite his face?

A few teams are going the Carlton route with having 2 or more small forwards. The Saints had 4 against Carlton and it worked a treat. Obviously didn't have the same affect on Sunday but I think Balla and Walters are better than Saad and Milera.

How so?

Both Mellington and Mayne are tall, but play as more medium/small forwards. During the NAB Cup we had Neale, Mellington, Ballantyne and Mayne up forward on occasion. I don't think there is any doubt Lyon would do something similar to gain an advantage.

Are you people all so convinced he has turned around his attitude and is a new footballer now?

I still think he is a risk.

From listening to Lyon on the radio last nite.He mentioned that the saints going one tall and the rest smalls really got the saints back in the game versus the duckers. But before he talked about that set up, Lyon said I really want to look at the griffo-sandi-Clarke model, but then pointed out that Leigh Matthews reckons you lose a runner by going sandi-griffo-Clarke.

yeah, Matthews made a big thing on Friday night about Geelong having 2 ruckmen whilst Collingwood only had one. Said that the Pies would run all over them due to the extra running player (Luke Ball echoed his thoughts).Only 12 points in it at the end and Geelong finished the better so hard to say who's right or wrong. Maybe Geelong are fitter or are the better team and should've won if it wasn't for the 2 rucks????

Nothing other than a hunch, Ross is a disciplinarian, this has been clear since the beginning of his coaching career, generally with those sorts of characters it is hard to get back into their good graces once trust is lost.

yeah, so do i, he has been unfit after every pre-season bar one, and then got himself back in to shape leading us to think that he has picked his game up... it could very well happen again next year, we dont know, but the form guide leaves him open to these questions. I truly hope he gets his proffessionalism up for good, but i guess proof is in the pudding.... kinda like im still sceptical on johnson, though i fully congratulate him on his year to date, there is still a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that he will revert back to the form of the last 6 years

i think the trio of ruckman is unsustainable, its a running game now, and two of those three blokes cant run

Just responding to the comments that it'd take a long while to win Lyon's faith and trust back.

Walters has already ticked the fitness and attitude box, so if he's ticked the game day boxes, and from reading the WAFL reports I'd suggest he's very close, and he's the best player for the job then Lyon surely wouldn't not play him out of spite. He wants to win more than anyone and having the best players out there is only going to help achieve that.

Mind you, no one who knows football would doubt that Silvagni is best 25 but he won't give him a game.

He's just not that amazing fella's.

There's so many people that think he's going to make a massive difference to our team that I thought it was a joke thread.

Not quite as bad as the 'Ryan Murphy is being wasted in the WAFL' threads used to be I guess.

He has the best disposal and goal sense at the club, anyway I don't see how wanting a certain player in the team implies people reckon he's "amazing" If you're happy with our current forward set up though and don't think we should mix it up a little then good luck to you!

Also reckon KPR should probably be barred from future Son-Son threads, broken record much?
