Eventually, but not just yet. He has reportedly been tabled a large sum figure (higher than what you might imagine for a 2-gamer) and by all accounts is quite content at Brisbane. Wish him well there.

First we've heard about any new contract offer for Spaanda. Mind you getting any contract news out of the Lions is blood from a stone stuff. Where did you hear that Pheret?

He should get at least another year, given the longer time it can take talls to develop.

I am not sure why this kid has such a reputation. He continually turns the ball over when he gets it, and despite his size is extremely timid.

Why on earth is Selwood not playing!

When you say "he has been tabled a large sum". Which club? Brisbane or West Coast?
I would be delighted if he has been offered a new deal with The Lions. Hopefully it’s on a three-year deal. Same as the Lions did with Brennan last year. Secure the potential champions on longer terms.
What most people fail to see is that Betty is still early in his development period. Talls like him take a lot longer to mature as footballers. The upside is massive. The supporters need to be patient with our tall brigade. I include Merrett in this category. It would be foolish of the club to put in two years of development and just pass him on to another club to get the benefit of the Lions' effort.

I am currently driving an empty Black Betty bandwagon. There's plenty of room for others to jump on. 'c’mon, you know he's guna be a player.

I'm on the guy has looked alright to me egts bigger and bigger every bloody year, and will be very good. i remember wanting to get rid of Charmo at one stage but now he's on my safe list

no idea but he should be in for aker atm.

I would have thought the rule of thumb is don't delist the big guys without 3-4 years of development except where the attitude is poor. From what I have heard, any rumours of attitude problems are the same sort of thing that you hear about any young player stuck in the Reggies.

Completely agree with your statements. Such a big kid is nowhere near his potential. Would love him down at Fremantle as a backup Ruckman to Sandilands/Longmuir because if either go down our next Ruckman is Michael Johnson (195cm). I thought a pick somewhere around 15-20 would be appropriate compensation.

Am i right in thinking that Spaanderman rucks?

Yeah, but in the limited game time he's had he's also played in the back and forward lines. I think Lethal is moving all the rookies around the park and trying them in different positions, he's realistic in the fact that 2005 is snuffed as far as Brisbane is concerned and is prep'ing himself for 2006 by ensuring he knows the best positions for each of his players now before next years preseason.

I doubt there is little chance that Lethal will move him on without at least two more seasons. He has shown enough in the limited game time he has had to suggest he is worth keeping.

An old mate of mine was a former teammate of his at East Perth and Bayswater-Morley and is still in constant contact with him.

From your mob. Eagles were apparently never that interested in him. Told him that they'd only pick him up in the '03 rookie draft if he slipped that far. Dunno what that means for when he wants to come home. He was an Eagles fan growing up, and would prefer us over the Dockers, but the Dockers would likely offer more for him. But that's a matter for a bit further down the track. Believe the contract you offered him was a two-year deal, he'll stick with ya. You should hold onto him. 199cm guys are a rare breed and can further add depth to your ruck stocks if Keating, Charman or McLaren go down. He kicked 9 for your reserves one time, plus a nice goal versus the Swans. He'll go well, just as you've said, bigger guys need more time first to come on fully.

Doubt that he'll ever amount to anything!
Interesting comment, I'll wager the same thing was said about a lot of players. Voss, Buckley, Carey, Hird, etc for example. His extremely limited game time isn't anywhere near enough to show what he could develop into.

those players you mention are topliners who had an impact from day 1. Spanderman has playe 2 games in 2yrs.

I remember the dockers where very keen at draft time and given their ruck stocks I am sure they would be sniffing around.
