This assumes all goes well at trade period and maybe Pav goes again one last time. If all goes well it could potentially be one of the better trade periods for the club.
B Lee Spurr, Michael Johnson, Zac Dawson
HB Stephen Hill, Garrick Ibbotson, Cameron Sutcliffe
C Harley Bennell?, Lachie Neale, Danyle Pearce,
HF Chris Mayne, Cam McCarthy?, Michael Walters
F Hayden Ballantyne, Matthew Pavlich, Matt Taberner/Michael Apeness?
FOL Aaron Sandilands, David Mundy, Nat Fyfe
I/C Matt de Boer, Tommy Sheridan, Michael Barlow, Alex Pearce
If recruited:
Cam McCarthy as a lead up half forward who kicks goals he is agile for his size at 193cm. Harley Bennell in the midfield to pinch hit in the forward line & switching with Fyfe in this role periodically so both get a run through both spots. Although both initially named in midfield/follower spots.
Players in jeopardy for spots and future are:
Matt Taberner doesn't seem to handle the big stage but actually has the talent. Jonathon Griffin we were playing him I know but we need a more agile mobile 2nd ruck. Only got games due to Zac Clarke's lack of form. Zac Clarke was okay at the start of 2015 but needs to play consistently. If other ruckman overtake him or become developed he becomes trade fodder. Nick Suban a constant underachiever who has potential but sometimes can't find the leather, with no sub but has to play a full game without being a liability. Chris Mayne, Matt de Boer don't get me wrong great pressure players but need to do more with the ball in my opinion to take the club to the next level. If younger players can apply that defensive pressure, with offensive potency those 2 spots are at risk.
Development opportunities are:
The 2nd ruck & mobile forward is a significant problem we have as is key forward support to Pav why not take the opportunity to address them both. Michael Apeness afterall at 200cm and 101kg he was a ruck/forward at Eastern Ranges. Matt Taberner as a 2nd ruck? Matt has great endurance but he is 198cm at the shorter end for any would be ruckman still if he can clean up his marking can cause problems around the ground. Even so, I am not sure on this Matt in some ways is the new Kepler Bradley and could do a few more funny things. Perhaps Jack Hannath will come along some more.
Depth includes:
Veterans: Alex Silvangi, Clancee Pearce, Tendai Mzungu I like them as players some of them haven't had the best season though. Potentially the depth we could have would keep them out. Although since most of them are defender utility types all it would take is an injury.
Youth: Anthony Morabito (lets hope body holds up essentially like a new player
), Tanner Smith, Brady Grey as defender options, utilities. Michael Apeness as Key Forward. Connor Blakely, Lachie Weller as a midfield options, or utilities. Ed Langdon, Hayden Crozier as smaller forward options, or utilities. Jack Hannath in the ruck, forward role.
Delistings & retirements:
Looking at our depth gives me great confidence in our list management following the retirements of Paul Duffield and Luke McPharlin. Also Thomas Vandeleur, Ryan Crowley, Max Duffy, Jacob Ballard, Craig Moller and Josh Deluca being delisted. Note: Josh Deluca is to be redrafted as a rookie.
