It surprises me as they have Lobb and Busslinger who are more interceptors which is what Keane really is. They lack Jordan Butts type player to play on the big forwards.

Personally I dont think their defence is that good either, not anymore.

A lot of defensive ability can be made up by coaching and team structures. Sydney also has the pieces to quickly bounce back in this aspect, seeing they've got a pair of reliable intercepting talls in Blakey and McCartin and that tends to be a fair portion of the battle in building a bulletproof defensive unit.

If Cox is a good coach, he'll work it out. If not...

But thats because they had to play Lobb on the big guys, not as an interceptor like he prefers. Butts would have fixed it structurally for them but i am very glad we still have him

I think it can happen for either an absolute gun player, or for a mediocre player whose salary wouldn't be high enough to deter other clubs.

But for someone like Ah Chee who is a very good but not top shelf player, who will likely command a large, front-loaded salary? No chance a club takes him unless they're 100% certain he wants to be there.
