Rumour Speculation, Rumours, Lies Thread 2026 - Part 2

Sort of correct - the player's nominated payment must be able to be accommodated by the club (ie fit under the TPP) at the Pre Season Draft meeting. They may subsequently, however, vary those terms upon the player's agreement.
I think you'll find, additional years can be added to the Contract, but not the initial asking price

Let's say, you're a Restricted Free Agent ....OK it's been said PORT will match any offer for Butters as an RFA in 2026, thus forcing a trade ......but under your scenario, Butters in conjunction with say HAW, could put $3M on his head for a one-year deal

PORT couldn't match the deal, due to shortage of TPP room ......HAW get Butters, who then immediately renegotiates his Contract to a $1.5M a year x 5 years ....however Port can't do the same, because Butters would refuse to renegotiate the Contract with them

A ludicrous situation ....if Ah Chee was able to do likewise in the PSD

The Brisbane board is interesting reading, it's literally toys out of the cot type stuff from some of their posters.

Ben Williams is an idiot
Crows are a shit club
Crows supporters are dumb
Justin Reid is an idiot

Yet they keep talking about posters here being unhinged
Surely this is mostly correct though?

No, you're wrong.

You keep quoting rules for Free Agency, I have a feeling the rules for PSD are slightly different.

Mate, you're wrong.

edit. actually, I apologise, you're right.

Rule 6 and 7 apply. PLayer to nominate terms for a period of two years and the terms may not be varied within those two years.

Didn't a team do this with a free agent?

Sign a guy up and then immediately re-do the deal once the other team received their compo?

It was Brisbane IIRC when they signed Daniher or Gunston.

When they extended Daniher, it was at a very low salary by comparison to his initial contract. But that must have bene after 2 years.

They really must be looking in the mirror!

So the upshot of all that is we sign him to a high two year contract, then halfway through year 2, we extend him and years 3-5 are at a lower amount.

Can both parties agree to terminate the existing 2 year contract after 1 month and then draw up a totally new contract?

Which is not varying the terms in the first 2 years, it's completely getting rid of that contract entirely

EDIT: The rule says "amended" so presumably terminating the contract would not count as an "amendment" and what I've said would be allowed

You can't vary the terms for two years, but I'm pretty sure the club could say "hey, we're happy to pay you $5M over four years, so what we're going to do is offer you a two-year contract for $4M so that nobody matches it, and then sometime after you get here we'll extend it for two more years and add an extra million then."

Every board has its unhinged posters!

Could the player however take their massive amount of millions for the first 2 years, and then say, actually I have served my contract, time to go somewhere else? Player wins, club loses - both big time?
Yes, absolutely they could do that .....in fact we already have instances of players towards the end of, say a 5-year Contract, requesting a trade .....after the Club had front loaded that 5-year Contract

lol, I just calculated the 2 sides preferred deals (Crows F2 + F3 vs Lions Pick slide 16-23 + F2).

The net value gain from a pick 16 to a pick 23 slide (i.e. the main sticking point in the Lions side of the negotiation) was only 252 points. Valuewise, thats a pick between 51-52! Otherwise known as, a future 3rd for a team in the top 4.

So by points value, the 2 deals were essentially identical, but the Lions would prefer to take nothing then accept it in anything but their preferred configuration.

Post Something GIF

Nah, that’s old point index.

On the new index it would be pick 39
