It was mentioned on one of the AFL panel shows (I think it might have been Matthew Lloyd who said it) that Justin Reid tries to win every trade scenario and list managers find him difficult to trade with.

If I knew exactly when it was said I would try and find it, it definitely could be bullshit though.

Surely that’s his job, they all do it. The David Noble approach is the outlier.

The reports are that he asked that from us, haven’t read it applies to Suns as well. Which makes sense to me, at our club he’d be required to be put brute force mid throughout his contract, at Suns he’s more likely to get an extra year out of his body.

But I knew that we’d win this either way when it came to the rainbow and lollipops brigade. When they believed we were ahead, were the bees knees, best system in the country, gun coach, gun culture, ANB sprouting this from the rooftops. And as soon as it starts to turn, Xian who?, not serious about success, just want to lounge around in the sun and seagull easy goals in a forward pocket.

And how was UcantCme hooking a heap of people in with his garbage about midfield minutes and the rest of his crap. You’re all such a laugh, I love trade time.

that's possible but i think he would only need to be a brute force mid for 2-3 season with us, then we would look at him as a medium tall replacement for Tex.

Thrillthorpe7 is saying GC are obliging Petracca on his request.

Sounds like typical self serving garbage, not been reported anywhere except here and by a known club apologist. We were right to not pay it or the apparent capital requested by Melbourne, but until it’s reported in the mainstream, I’m calling bullgarbage .

Apologies, I was under the impression he has contacts.

Agree, but his concern after the injury he had is whether he’d be capable of a 4th season after being our battering ram for 3. At Melbourne he had Viney and Oliver, with us it’s just him and maybe Dawson.

And there can be a washout the other end of players .....appears Humphries was eyeing off more midfield time in 2026

A younger & better player than Petracca ....ouch

I think the club needs to be very careful paying big overs for any player unless they are an absolute SUPERSTAR in their prime (eg Carey in the 1990’s, Judd in the 2000’s). Petracca on 1.3-1.4m for 5 years is very big overs for a player currently ranked 21-30 in the league and getting toward the end of his peak playing years. If it was 5 years or so earlier it’s certainly different.

List management is a fascinating beast and I am plan to learn more about this but it seems most sustainably successful teams in the last 15 years - Lions, Cats, Hawks, Tigers for a 5-6 year period - have avoided the massive overpay of 1-2 players. It’s called the “Geelong model” I believe.

Once you start paying a NWM 2m per year for example BEFORE he is proven beyond doubt to be the next gun player in the league there is massive inherent risk of alienating a big chunk of the team, esp the other premium players who may be on “unders” for the sake of the team. For example, if NWM is on 2m why wouldn’t TT, Curtin, Rachele etc all want maximum coin upon next contract And IF the team doesn’t achieve the required success it becomes even worse as players may want out chasing higher $$. Almost easier to have a “full squad” already achieving success and then top it up with higher ranked recruits (Lions this year). And once you are proven to be successful (GF or flag) it’s an easier sell to get players on less than market $ I imagine

Justin R recently told me we are very focussed on achieving the longest possible premiership window here. All player decisions - like Petracca - should be viewed thru that lens and I feel we have done the right thing seemingly walking away. He also said it’s hard to always have “plan B’s” as you need to pretty much fully commit to try and get your Plan A players in and until they have made a decision you can’t really be working in your Plan B players. The logical impact is that many Plan B players are already being chased elsewhere. We have tried for NWM and Petracca this year and it hasn’t worked out after being he best recruiting team, or near to, in he last 3-4 years. Not sure there would be anyone else of note incoming but fingers crossed.

The advantages of Northern Academies can make all the difference between ultimate success or not. Like the extra 10% thru COLA going back 15-20 years (allowed Swans to get Tiprat and Buddy in consecutive years) it’s distorting a true playing field. Add that to Lions unbelievable run of FS and we are behind the eight ball.

My best prediction is we are on track for various prelims this next 5 ish years but not sure we have the absolute elite talent Lions and Suns do unfortunately

The QLD teams now have 3 distinct advantages:

(1) allure of lifestyle. ADL and BNE had similar populations in the mid 1980’s (thanks to Mummy and Daddy’s World Book Encyclopaedias). BNE now double with massive natural inflows mainly net interstate migration for lifestyle reasons.
(2) ridiculously generous NGAs. Argued that Suns needed one as no FS but Lions almost equally benefiting despite the best FS in the league since Cats 20+ years ago. NGA = sick joke and needs to end.
(3) combined above 2 factors leading to success becomes self fulfilling. See Lions this year attracting both Draper and Allen and now Suns Petracca.

The AFL won’t be happy until it’s an all QLD final and I expect this within 2 years as both clubs are set up for dynasties like NO other clubs

No it’s not actually. Gain overall (basically means convincing players to come to your club) but try and screw each team on every occasion and it’s not big picture smart policy.

Watch the Lions here with Ah Chee. Will they accept likely unders of just a second round pick (F2 most likely) or demand something more. They will likely accept unders IMO

thinking out loud here...
If Curnow hasn't sorted out a club would if be worth having a look?
doesn't fix our midfield issue, but Filthy in the ruck would be a better option than ROB.

Since the NWM money went unspent and Petracca looks to be a no go, let's jump into the race for Butters

Really spice up the rivalry
The money is in the Tippett war chest tho, and there’s no one left who remembers how to open it. We just crossed out “Tippett”, then “Dangerfield”, and now someone has wiped off some dust and crossed out “nwm” to write “Petracca” on it. It’s the afc equivalent of that hard drive lost in a dump with a key to millions in bitcoin on it.

Correct .....GEEL have been great at "opportunity" trades ....wait for a player to return home, or get shaken out of their Club tree, and then swoop

This trade period could still see some players shaken out of their Clubs .....given the big $$$ being spent by desperate Clubs .....there maybe a need for more salary dumps

Keeping your powder dry, is a good policy by Reid

So far, most of the trades, and proposed trades, haven't greatly benefitted clubs ....the Petracca trade easily the most impactful by the GCS

Apologies, I was under the impression he has contacts.

He has, but it’s not always accurate and this is dubious. There’s a difference between hearing about potential moves and having knowledge about contracts. There was a public report about him asking us, if it was both, why would t that have been reported. This is more like old The Sloane ranger, currently ucantcme, reporting his assumptions as inside knowledge.

Prepared to be wrong, because I trust BACCS genuineness, but doubt I will be.

A billion dollars worth….now wants to buy the whole dump haha. I have made lots of bad share investments (less than 30% returns) over the years but this is next level..
