This is insane for someone who will be 30 next season.

It's like you have no long term memory & forgotten about Gibbs

Meh - you get the deal done for a flag.

I don't think he would cost 3 - but I wouldn't really care if he did. He would give us the best chance of winning a flag in the next 2 years of all the players available. And its two fold - the better we are with Trac - the less the picks would be worth.

3 first round picks ???

That would be the dumbest list management decision by any club in the history of the AFL.

2 would be bad enough.

The dumbest list management decision would be trotting out a bottom midfield once again, pissing away an excellent defence and attack.

I understand this POV .....however early season Soligo looks a million bucks, irrespective of the oppo .....he's looked terrible in the last 6 games (inc 2 finals) ....and that included bottom sides WCE, and NORTH
He's also only 22. Long year as an inside mid

I get that, but 3 first rounders for a guy whos going to be 30 before the start of next season ??

No one even half responsible would be doing that.

That's my problem with such a high price. It ain't no Darren Jarman deal. We traded Pick 25 and Sean Wellman for Jarman, not 3 first round picks. And we got 6 years of service from him. Would we get 6 years of service from Petracca? For 3 first round picks? Or 2 -3 years like Gibbs and Carey. Does he guarantee a premiership or is that just wishful thinking?

Isaac Smith was 32 and was sensational. Won a Norm Smith
Jack Gunstan has also been great this year after coming back at 32.

Petracca has obviously missed a lot of footy recently, but appears to be the ultimate professional and if his attitude is right I could easily see him play 5 more years, probably 3 at elite level.

Yes, that's true, but neither of them played in the guts.

There's no doubt he gets us closer, and i can see us winning a flag within 3 years..... BUT its a hail mary swing that could end in huge pain.

Nor did they have a significant internal injury.

And we would be brining Petracca in to be THE guy. Gunston has had a great year no doubt, so did Tex at the same age.

Smith was a nice addition to an already very good group.

Petracca is ‘worth’ our first round this year. It will be pick 25 after academy and FA compo and is already a poor and shallow draft.

We likely give up more because of how desperate we are, though.

Midfielders get banged up more than forwards or backs, even without having a horrific injury like Petracca suffered.

As always - you show zero nuance.

Think about when the picks would be. We currently have 14 in 2025. Thats gonna give you access to the 20th-25th best prospect in the land. Next years first if we land Petracca would be in pick 16-18 which would land us the 22nd - 27th best player in the draft.

Pick up a 3rd late 1st rounder by trading out some fringe players.

You wouldn't do those three picks for a 4 time All Australian, Norm Smith medallist who will give us 3 great years whilst we are in a premiership window and he addresses our #1 biggest list issue.

Then there’s Dangerfield at 35 who has used his body as a battering ram for the last 15 years still playing sublime footy.
1. How many Dangerfields are there? 2. Did he suffer any injury similar to Petracca? Cherry-picking an example does not mean it applies to everyone.

"Pick up a 3rd late 1st rounder by trading out some fringe players." What fringe players are worth a late 1st? I assume you are probably going to say Butts?

People get obsessed with the wording of 'First Rounder'....

Let's be honest - The AFL talent pool is tiny. Drafting is less than a perfect science.

Picks after 15 just aren't worth that much.

A lot of ifs there, thats not a lot of nuance, its guess work.

What fringe players are getting us a late first rounder, given that we saw this year that said depth isn't up to the level ??

And are you convinced he'll give us 3 great years, because this year he kicked the ball as bad if not worse than any of our midfielders.

I dont deal in fantasy playstation trading, you'd do well to do the same.

Yup. Butts could be worth a late first.

Berry and Taylor you could trade with our 2nd for another teams 1st.

Academy, father son - teams are looking for to trade for various reasons. A million ways to skin a cat.

That same 2nd rounder would likely go to Brisbane for Ah Chee.

In no world is Butts worth a first rounder, none.

Not really.

Butts would get a late first.

Berry + our 2nd would get us a late 1st.

Plenty of teams would need points for various strategies. Its easier to trade than it has ever been.

And are you convinced he'll give us 3 great years, because this year he kicked the ball as bad if not worse than any of our midfielders.

I am more convinced that we will be a better team with Petracca than with future late first rounders.

Its exactly what you are doing in discussing playstation trades with me.

Let's use this as a learning experience. That is Irony.
