It's run by the AFL's media division

The AFL should not be running their own program about player movement until after the season concludes
Trade talk happens all year round (see the Gettable podcast).

I don't think it's a big deal, but then I don't think I've listened to Trade Week Radio since the 2011 offseason.

Which other sports league administrative body produces and promotes a media program in the week of the championship game that's about something other than the championship?

I dont think we can quantify this

I think there is a lot of blame towards development . Given the recent comments by Ned and the eye test we seem to hinder our picks rather than let them free

Agree with this. Jones looked promising early but then turned into an absolute crab that looked like he was going to cry at breaks between quarters. That said, we haven’t managed to draft ourselves even a B grade mid from first or second rounders in a long time.

Other media? Fair game. The AFL themselves running a day long program about trades right before their biggest game of the year? Unnecessary from the "non-profit" custodians of the game

Not sure why who runs it matters. If there’s an appetite and commercial value for the product, you deliver it.

Honestly, Oliver is the better target. Won’t cost anything at the trade table, is younger, and more of ‘type’ we’re crying out for.

Neither Oliver or Petracca are long term projects but either will help next year.

No Burgess does concern whether we can get Oliver back to his best though.
Burgess going isnt gonna have to much of an effect.. the club would’ve learnt all they can from him and the way he operates and Burgess has probably left plenty of “cheat sheet” notes to use on Oliver if he happened to walk through the clubs front door…

Yeah, of all the things that are deemed disgraceful on this site. This is a ice cold 1/10 for me.

I get the point you want to make, however a slight breeze closing my cardoor quicker than anticipated would annoy me more!

The NBA and its subsidiary media partners like ESPN certainly does (all during the last two NBA finals, a lot of talking head shows on ESPN and podcasts was about the futures of the likes of Lebron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant etc)

I definitely feel the AFL is going down the ESPN/USA style of marketing and coverage (especially the Brownlow etc)

Whether that is a good or bad thing I'll let you decide..

Petracca is absolutely Gibbs 2.0

Oliver at least doesn't have the same star aura with all the pressure it would bring. Plus to me is more of the style of player we need.

But to be honest I'd be happy with Achee, Stevens and keeping our 1st. We are clearly not ready to compete on the last weekend of September yet and I doubt that it'll next season as well so we need some young players coming in
It's funny in a sense that Gibbs is one of those guys who I thought would have gone into his mid 30s without much of an issue. Never had injury problems and seemed like someone that would slot it well across HBF once his midfield days were over. Certainly didn't play out that way...

Petracca will start to drop off at some point but he's another you'd expect could go into his mid 30s as he could become a HFF, medium sized marking forward.

Seen a few mention Stevens is an upgrade on Berry and I wouldn't be so quick to claim that just yet. While we look set to try something different, Stevens is pretty much as unproven as any other young midfielder at this point in time.

Stat wise, debut game against Richmond was very promising but Richmond haven't been much competition this year. Next game was subbed off with 7 touches against GWS - no idea his role or how he played, early days so these guys deserve plenty of slack. Just don't think he's a name we can be throwing up as someone that will instantly make our team any better next season as there's nothing to back that up yet.

He loves the hard working blue collar player , probably reminds of himself from his Swans playing days
That's doing Nicks a bit of a disservice. He was a very handy player.

The one area Richmond has been competitive is their midfield, Toby Nankervis, Tim Taranto, Jacob Hopper, Dion Prestia and Jack Ross is a pretty decent midfield.

Since when has Berry ever shown an ability to have more than a handful of score involvements, let alone 14? Geelong were smashed against the Giants, can’t read a lot into that.

He would’ve played a lot more AFL by now for the majority of other sides. Danger rates him highly too and compared him to a young Josh Kennedy in terms of style of player.

That's my thoughts as well. Obviously our midfield (lack of quality thereof) problem lies either with the recruiters, the development or senior coaches. The fact that we play almost every recruited midfielder anywhere but the midfield even at SANFL level should be a bit of a clue. Our recruiters can't be that bad surely?

I wonder, did Juventus head hunt Burgess or did Burgess seek out Juventus?
Reports suggest he was head-hunted. Him and the director of performance at Juve (Damien Comolli) worked at Liverpool together from 2010-12.

I understand the need for structure and game plan play

But part of that is letting the recruit play their game and then make adjustments that suit them not restrict them to your game plan. Thats rigid small minded coaching

Had a few blokes where the instruction was '' just handball as he runs through the corridor '' ie let him decide

Another one was '' just kick it near him he will either take a specky or run hard to get the ball ''

I would choke the life out of his love for the game if I yelled at either one to run the patterns

It's well known Lachie Neale's main reason to go to Brisbane was to play with his childhood best bud and former Glenelg teammate Lincoln McCarthy who had just been traded to Brisbane also.
It's never the money is it, always another reason 😃

I don't buy that the crows were no chance for him either, at that stage in 2018 we didn't put market based contracts in front of players. We made no effort to assemble the defacto state team either which is what the crows represent. That draft we sat on our hands while port traded up for SA talent from an inferior position

I’m amazed you showed restraint on the drafting board in the Petracca thread Danger in Texas, that Hawks mod responded with a completely irrelevant topic to the convo you were having. Having a quick skim of the Merrett thread and then their posts in the Petracca thread, are they the most annoying supporter base in the comp?

For a club with a poo and wee colours, they sure do think that their shit doesn’t stink.

Nope not in this case...

Footy’s (Odd) Couple: Lachie Neale and Lincoln McCarthy’s enduring friendship comes full circle at Brisbane

Fifteen years after first sharing the basketball court — and just over five months after that blockbuster trade which saw Neale join his great mate at the Lions — McCarthy and Neale will don the same jumper on Sunday.

It was reported last September that Brisbane was targeting Neale’s friend from Geelong to further attract the then-Fremantle superstar to Queensland. And when you consider their journey and bond, it’s easy to see why.

Neale’s ability to find the ball at junior level in South Australia has transcended on to the national stage. Only four players racked up more touches than the 25-year-old in 2018.

But while McCarthy has always admired Neale’s skills, it’s off the field where he’s had the most profound impact on the one-time Cat.

The Neale and McCarthy sign that “joins the dots” to Lions

By SEN 7 years ago

Former Brisbane defender Brent Staker says there is an element of Lachie Neale and Lincoln McCarthy’s potential move to the Lions that joins the dots for the duo.

SEN Time On host Sam McClure broke the news of Brisbane’s interest in Neale, while McCarthy has also been linked to a move up north.

“The Lions, there’s been this innuendo about Lachie Neale and Lincoln McCarthy,” Staker told SEN’s KB and The Doc.

“He (McCarthy) is friends with Lachie, but they both share the same manager. That’s just sort of another thing that joins the dots.

Soligo, Curtin, Berry...none of them B grade?

Draper should at least get to B grade, and the way this board goes on, Edwards will be an A grader
