Why stop at the flu? It’s also possible that the entire team had parvovirus or hepatitis. There is zero evidence that any crows player had the flu. This is nothing more than a made up coping mechanism.

There is ample evidence that before the finals even began, we were in poor form, including creeping over the line in games against two of the worst sides in history.

There is ample evidence that our midfield was regularly annihilated throughout the season by good, average and poor sides, and struggled to get their hands on the ball with any regularity.

There is also ample evidence of players and coaches panicking under finals pressure and making terrible decisions.

If people want to blame a phantom influenza outbreak, that magically impacted the Adelaide crows and zero other teams in the league during a finals campaign, and ignore the fact that Brisbane just made a GF with an injury-ravaged list (including a multiple Brownlow winner) and yet another key in-game injury in the prelim, and the Pies smashed us with several of their key players out whilst coming off a horror stretch of form of their own, then that’s fine. I wonder how we would’ve gone in those games if they were away from home?

Illness or no illness, Rankine or no Rankine, we are way off a grand final, and the teams who annihilated us when it mattered weren’t good enough to make one either, which speaks volumes.

Didn't read all of your post as it looked to be full of blah.......
Been saying all season that we'd be crap in finals, even when we were top, as our midfield is so crap. But flu is a definite extra addition to that and very valid reason for us being extra crap.

They also knew that everyone was aware and could tell so they just said yeah it's going through but we're all good and not using it as any excuse.
Exactly. But it cant be denied that it was a thing.

Anyone know when Burns’ contract is up?
He’s more useless than Nicks
Time to move he and VB on (and Nicks too, but that ain’t gonna happen).

I got married the weekend of the North Melbourne game

My folks and an aunt and uncle drove over from the Yorke Peninsula for it

My mum ended up being crook as a dog, soldiered on during the wedding night but then dropped like a deck of cards and was bed ridden for the rest of her time in Melbourne

Mum, my Aunt and my Uncle all ended up getting smashed by it, and my brother (who was down from Brisbane but stayed with my mum) also went down with it (somehow Dad avoided it - just felt a bit flat but otherwise fine)

Mum tested pos for Influenza A

Luckily I didn't get it from her, but it was sad as she was supposed to stay at our place on her final night but she was so sick we just paid for another night in the accom she was already in

Obviously the bug was brought over from Adelaide - if the players had any of that it wouldn't have been fun
Congrats on your nuptials!

Good clubs don’t need to make excuses for losing 8/8 quarters in finals. Tom Stewart and Scott Pendlebury get injured in the opening minutes of prelims, and real teams rise to the challenge. The culture of our club is to have a cry about perceived unfortunate circumstances rather than focus on the cancer that rots from within.
Who from the club is having a cry?

Every statement from within the club has been that we just weren't good enough.

We were off because average players can only get you so far.

We shouldn't be at all surprised that those b+ types don't have an extra level and in fact come undone when the pressure is at its highest.

We should also not blame them as they are literally doing the best they can, but that is why they are b+.

Sure, no doubt.

In fact I think we have perhaps the best group of b+ players in the competition.

But they aren't your difference makers.

You want b+ players to shine and they do that when they are actually performing that role, not put forward as you're elite players.

When we have adequate elite talent across the lines, who are actually the difference makers, and you allow the b+ to support them we will see a finals ready and potentially successful side.

Unlike other sides we are asking our b+ players to do things out of their pay grade and making it even more challenging, in the heat of the finals.

Not setting anyone up for success here.

You're going to look pretty silly when we sail to the next two flags in a row, flu free

Zac Bailey is a more consistent Rankine. He has to be a top priority.

Haha yup it actually is. I didn’t want it share it because it sounds so far fetched.
Imagine going to Cafe Paparazzi and getting out with out anyone managing to get a photo 😂

Where have we been crying about our situation? I’m sure you can back that up as I haven’t seen any “poor us” from the club re late season injuries, illness and Rankines suspension. I have heard we weren’t good enough, need to get better and also a lack of finals experience did come into play.

As passionate fans EVERY one of us is disappointed by our September efforts. But we just had our greatest ever minor round finishing with 18 wins, defying ALL expectations of fans, industry “experts” and bookies odds (was around 30-1 at the start of the year to be minor premiers IIRC as I put small $ on us to win flag a 34-1).

Lots to be hopeful, even excited, about IMO so your “cancer that rots from within” is just another universe that thankfully I don’t live in.

0-2 since tying the knot 😞

Definitely would be an immense pick up. Have watched him live for years and he would automatically become a top 5 player for us.

Lions drafting, trading, FA pick ups and salary cap management has been exceptional. But kissed on the #### with such quality FS’s and these ridiculous northern academies with Marshall, Gallop, Hipwood and likely top 5 pick this year Annable to come. 7 years of finals, many prelims and 3 GFs in a row. Whoever their recruiting guy and Footy Manager is have done amazingly well and still have a long premiership window ahead with SO many elite young mids.

Lions are the team we should be targeting players as we seemingly already are with Ah Chee and Bailey. Davis perhaps really helps with this both identifying and also helping “close the deal”. I would be offering huge $ to W Ashcroft (1.5m x 8) or big $ to their young forwards like Gallop or Morris . Surely they feel salary cap pain soon…

Just cant see them letting him go next year while in contract or him quitting the club while they’re right in the dynasty hunt.

Unfortunately next year as a free agent is a more likely scenario.

Remember guys, last time the Redbacks won the sheffield shield was in 1996.
We didn't win the premiership that year, infact, after a hot start we fell in the toilet, just like this year.
Back-to-back starts next year ;)

We also sacked a coach...
