Playstation trades though.

I don't see us turning Berry and Sholl into Stevens and AhChee, even with a second rounder. It will cost more.
Not if listening to the cats fans is anything to go by, they seem to feel it will be a back ended pick that woudl be all thats needed. The AhChee one is also most likely going to hinge on a 2nd round pick so its not that far out if we could get a 3rd for each of Berry and Sholl. I'd be more confident of getting it for Berry than sholl though

Our midfield improved when Crouch went down. What cost us was losing Rachele because we robbed the midfield to cover a chunk of his role. And then Rankine who is our best contested ball winner.

But worse, our coach and selectors choked down as September loomed. We reverted to a game style that was predictable and very easy to play against.
He was obviously playing injured before going down. You only need to look at our first two games to see his true output. His injury and subsequent retirement was a massive dent in our flag aspirations, as indicated by the flogging our midfield received in both finals.

Sam Flanders apparently demanding $900k

Surely strikes the Saints out with all the big contracts they've just handed out

Makes me more confident that Melbourne are shedding the cap space of Petracca and/or Oliver
Now way they add another near $1mil to the cap in midfield
Id pay that for him instead of oliver or petracca

Petracca is absolutely Gibbs 2.0

Oliver at least doesn't have the same star aura with all the pressure it would bring. Plus to me is more of the style of player we need.

But to be honest I'd be happy with Achee, Stevens and keeping our 1st. We are clearly not ready to compete on the last weekend of September yet and I doubt that it'll next season as well so we need some young players coming in
Huh? We won 18 games, next year has to be a prelim minimum or Nicks is gone. List is largely good enough and additions of Ah Chee and Stevens improves our floor again. No excuses anymore.

Let's be clear - neither Petracca or Oliver are worth (from a salary POV) anything near what their exorbitant, long-term contracts are priced at. Each of those contracts are a major millstone around the neck of Melbourne and their new coach. On that basis alone Melbourne would need to either/both discount their trade value or pay a proportion (possibly significant) of their salary.

I think a generous assessment of their respective value based on form from the past two years would be:
  • Petracca: 3 year contract @ $800K-$1m; trade value pick 10-15
  • Oliver: 3 year contract @ $700-900K; trade value pick 16-24
Taking either of them on the above terms would still represent a risk as both come with injury, form, character and other issues but it would probably be justified on a risk-reward basis. Any price above that (on either salary or trade cost) would not be wise for us - hope we're not too desperate to get 'a big fish'...better saving our resources for a Sharp or Bailey.

You lost me at the first line.

Since when was Bryce ever on the same level as Petracca ??

Zero chance the board sacks Nicks if he makes finals.

It does when you take out Rankine and Rachele, we just had no spark. I get that the finals are in recent memories, but we are a much better team with those two. Also hurt Keays as he the gets the best small defender. Ah Chee addition adds more spark as well.

And you needed hindsight to realise this?

Rachele was injured for 9 weeks and we were playing with that shit game plan in the last 3-4 weeks before the Finals with Rankine.

Kornes also said this morning that he spoke with some people close to Petracca yesterday and they confirmed a trade request is coming. Didn’t mention clubs, just mentioned that it’s coming.

I said we played better with them together, which we didn’t have for the last couple of months.

A star Victorian player actively choosing to come here would be something.
Which is why it's hard to believe.

The whispers about Merrett staying make me think it’s Hawthorn, but then Morris still thinks he’s looking outside Vic and Adelaide would be ahead as it stands. I’m guessing we know more next week.

Ah Chee improves us but Tex has to retire or the forward line mix won't work. I know the club is hoping Ah Chee replaces Rankine or Rachele up forward but I can't see it

Oliver doesn't really improve us, I feel like some on here haven't seen him play in recent years. He is exactly what we don't need in the midfield. We want pace or a good ball user I think he stays at Melbourne as no club wants his salary and no club wants to give up a good pick for him. Melbourne are better of keeping him even if he plays some VFL which I think he will under King

Stevens helps depth but again I don't think he helps alot and is too slow.

How are you getting Sharp with pick 14? You can use next year's first round but you would want to be super confident we will have a similar year to this.

I agree, if we take Ah Chee, then he should only play forward if Tex is gone. As others have said, he is a better version of McAdam. He is also a swingman, so getting him for list depth for not much trade collateral is a good thing.

Oliver is certainly in our best midfield straight away, even in his last couple of down years he still improves us. We wouldn't be considering taking him though if we didn't think we could get him back to his best. He is a clearance beast.

Stevens is only 20, as long as we don't give up much for him, worth a swing. Geelong don't draft a lot of duds.

Agreed, we probably don't get Sharp at 14, probably not even Cumming. Reid and his team have shown a lot of ability and willingness lately to slide our picks around to where needed, I am confident that if either of those (or anyone else we rate) are on our board that they will be able to trade up to get one. A lot of teams have indicated a willingness to part with higher picks than ours, so doesn't seem out of the realms of reality. Also, SA boys tend to slide closer to draft day.

Yeah it does, but it's not our floor that's the problem. We need star power in the mids.

Dawson is great, but he's one dude.

Until we don’t and you role out the excuses 😂

If you do, are you will to change your name to “Club Ambassador”

Not a rumour but Mason Cox and Tom Mitchell both been told by Collingwood to explore other options. Didn't realise Tom Mitchell was 32 already.

Cox is UFA. Mitchell not a FA, don't know whether other clubs would have to trade or whether he'd just walk as a delisted FA?
