Quick staw poll.
How many spoons will be brought to the MCG tonight.
My prediction: 28,562.
No, make that 28,563 - I found another one!![]()

I think it is just begging for trouble to bring these spoons, I guarantee that if anyone waves anything in my face like a spoon at the game, I'll be waving a very fast moving fist into theirs.
At the pub beforehand, fair enough, it's a few laughs. But at the game. hanging sh#t on, you're looking for trouble believe me.

Yeah go on morons. One hundred and five years of resentment and hatred, get it out of your system. Go on, you'll feel so much better. Give it your best shot because Christ knows you won't get the chance again for a long, long time!

No offence, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Carlton finish last again next season either.

They deserve their wooden spoon this season,
Cheers,

We deserve it, do we?
Why is that, because we have avoided it for 105 years?
Because we have won 16 premierships?
Because we have a "winning culture"?
Because we are arrogant?

BTW I have seen many teams finish last through the years and not once have I taken a wooden spoon to the match to taunt the supporters with.

Fair enough. Finishing last means you get the wooden spoon. And yes in that context Carlton certainly deserve it.Originally posted by you_idiot
Nice to be quoted out of context, Bee.
Anyhoo...
If you take a look at the 2002 ladder, and see that Carlton are bottom of it, that is reason enough explaining why they "deserve" the wooden spoon.

Fans of my team and others will certainly cite the other reasons-- those of arrogance, tradition, whatever you want to call it. But let me say that every dog has its day. This just happens to belong to the Blues. It's not permanent, mind you, but that's just the way it goes.

Believe me, my brother-in-law (the lone member of Jennifer's side of a Geelong-supporting family that barracks for Carlton), Jen and I can't give him enough grief this season. And given the Blues' level of success over the years, we know that this might be our only chance to stick it to him and his team to the degree in which we're doing it. Tonight's game is a classic example-- and we're only at halftime here.

Having said all that, though, I think it's quite a bit over-the-top taking actual wooden spoons from Cole's, Safeway, or wherever, to the game itself. Not only does it smack of bush-league proportions of attitudes, but it poses obvious safety hazards as well.

You'd be well qualified to talk about teams finishing last. No offence, of course!
