Just something I've noticed in the past few hours since the game.

A majority of the Collingwood fans I've spoken to have been great about the result, and I haven't seen any Essendon fans lashing out either.

This really is a testament to the Anzac Day match, and the two sides that play in it. Even with a game such as today's, you just get this overwhelming feeling of respect between the two sides, even though we're very much rivals.

:thumbsu: Grouse effort from all, I love this club.

Also been very impressed with pretty much everyone.
If anything, neutral supporters have been far more prone to lash out at either club, or make rash comments about umpiring/play as opposed to the supporters of either Collingwood or Essendon.

Yeah this has been a great post match TBH. I am even surprised in myself not lashing out at Collingwood supporters. I think it just comes down to a mutual respect between the supporters and the fact that these two massive clubs have made ANZAC day football what it is. It was a great occasion today, tight match between two clubs that were both spent by the end of the day. Great day.

PS, loved the weather too! I always hope we get rain at the G since we are sheltered at Etihad. Football=Rain to me.

I've realised that between Essendon and Collingwood, there's a huge rivalry, and a great deal of respect, between both the actual clubs and the supporters.

Whereas with Carlton....

Sorry for the intrusion but I seriously said 'oh f..k' when Hibberd went down. Don't like seeing sides cop another injury when there have already been plenty.
The Bombers, even with the injuries, are the real deal and it was on show today.:thumbsu:

Looking forward to both sides having close to a full book in the return leg.

I think there is a true respect for the contest that was displayed today, and both supporters know it could of gone either way.

the respect is mind blowing, meanwhile we have carlton supporters celebrating like they just beat us, and North saying we dont deserve the day.

I think every bomber/pies supporter was happy with how their respective sides played today, or at least the effort they put in.

This.

I think the way the EFC conducts itself has a lot to do with that. You're not a bunch of cheats like Carlton, nor a rabble of whingeing tools like Richmond.

Case in point; the Pies and yourselves share the gate from both our H & A games each year. We had a similar deal with Richmond and they tried to screw us, consequently the arrangement was shelved.

Carlton really don't have much to celebrate apart from opposition losses. Their last 16 years has been woeful, they've blatantly tanked and got Judd through one of the shadiest deals in history.

As for North, they can't complain until they get more supporters to their games. Imagine the biggest game of the H/A season and there are more empty seats than at a James Reyne Does Elvis show?

I am actually in tears with laughter.

On that point; the AFL came out and said that the Judd contract with VI$Y and so forth was one-of-a-kind, did they not? And that other players trying to do the same thing were in for some disappointment? I wonder then if Judd is able to renew or extend his contract on the same terms, or whether his salary needs to start going under the cap next time...

I'll put it this way - I stayed and applauded Swan winning the ANZAC clash medal.

I'd never do the same thing for a Carlton player in an analogous game.

There is a toast on the pies forum applauding bomber fans. That shows our respect and i think it is mutual

I still hate you guys.. but it has to be said.. ANZAC day sure does bring out the best of both teams.. as does a great contest that went down to the wire.

May the day always be ours to share and the AFL realise that some things can't be measured on spreadsheets.

IIRC Geelong and Freo played on ANZAC day and didn't get a full house.. why mess with perfection?!!

I was surrounded by Pies and Bombers in a GA stand today and I commented on how lucky we are in the country to sit together, side by side, with our mates of opposing forces and sign in harmony. To celebrate the highs and lows with respect. I hope that never changes.

I have friends from Europe who can't believe that we actively SEEK OUT our friends and family that follow other (inferior) clubs to attend games as a group.. it is so outside their experience. They have come to games with me and been amazed at how 'friendly' things are and marvel that you can have opposite supporters sitting next to each other without hassle.. brilliant.

Also I thought the crowd was about 60/40 today (Coll vs Ess) and IMHO the atmosphere is as good as a Prelim and I believe Prelims are now more exciting than the GF for atmosphere. I think because you have 86K fans but 80K are there for the footy as opposed the GF where maybe 12K are there for the game...

Carlton is the only club I've ever seen take more joy in seeing its opponents lose than winning itself. I suppose a decade of irrelevance might do that. As for North, well, the chip on that club's shoulder must have a chip on its shoulder.

Nothing but respect for the dons.

Great match and I must say inspiringly sensible reaction to a even money loss from you blokes.:thumbsu:

I had two die hard RL supporters/part time cartoon followers over for the and they both left buzzing from the tension.
It all goes a long way toward keeping the day "in the family".

There actually couldn't be anything but respect gained (& given), from either side, from that game.
They won it through absolutely hard graft - if we had got over the top, it would've been from even harder graft.
Just throws the reactions from certain other groups of supporters (who shall remain nameless) into sharp contrast.

My hatred for Collingwood was up and about during the game, but just as I suspected, it's gone again today.

Meanwhile we pantsed Carlton last weekend and I still loathe them.

Respect towards a football club makes a huge difference :thumbsu:

This, I announced I hated Collingwood more then Carlton after the game, out of pure frustration at the result but I took that back once I calmed down a bit! Still can't stand that chant though!
