St Kilda complain about priority draft access in Oct 2024; now set to gain priority access to a first / second round pick via their NGA access

The grand final might be a slight advantage against an interstate side.

But try playing a qualifying, semi or prelim at your oppositions home venue ie bulldogs last year against the hawks at the ‘g in a elim (where the mcg tenant is always going to have more support due to mcc).

The marvel tenants are the most disadvantaged teams for the entirety of the season.

Maybe Brisbane should play finals at Carrara ?
Oh no what a huge disadvantage having to play at the bigger and better ground a few kilometres down the road

And last time I checked Carrara is not in the same city ! So no we wouldn’t played finals at a smaller stadium in another city what the **** are you on about

The business of giving up 3 late draft picks (points) for a f/s ,academy player is a joke when said player in an uncompromised draft would be top 10. A club should have to give up the equivalent draft pick, ex Ashcroft either one should have cost a top ten pick instead of a packet of chips. Then the draft would be fair for everyone.

The absolute audacity from Lions fans claiming the academies benefit everyone, while attempting to draft Luke Hodge’s son through the guise of their “league benefiting acadeny”.

Thank goodness they were there to expose that poor boy to football.
Not our fault he wants to play for us we also didn’t get Marc Murphy but no one cared

Like Neck, his dad won 2 flags for us (probably cost us a 3rd by being personally slaughtered in '98) and played 359 games of footy...

Yep, i'm sure the Swan academy made him what he is though.

I'll add the blame lies with John for giving him the option, not Sydney who were just playing by the stupid rules.

You do realise this also applied to Will at the Gold Coast but he chose Brisbane

Hahaha calm down and spit it out in one Response

It’s not a slight advantage it’s a massive advantage that’s here for the next 50 years, Finals at Carrara would be illogical, but if they had a 100k stadium that would be most full then yes I would be happy to play it there

Well the MCG is a 100k seat stadium that is far superior than the Gabba so you should be happy to play there!

Oh no what a huge disadvantage having to play at the bigger and better ground a few kilometres down there

You have never played local footy I’m guessing? Anyone that has played footy would know there is a big difference between playing home and away no matter what the distance is. There is more than goes into home ground advantage than travel. Probably no point trying to educate you on this though.

You said the same thing above. Geelong play finals in another city compared to home.

Do you think GWS & Sydney should play all there finals at Accor stadium to play at a bigger venue?

Accor stadium is not suitable for afl anymore you absolute peanut and yeah I do think they should play at the biggest stadium, if the giants could get a crowd it should absolutely be at the scg but since they cant it will stay at engie

They do for the obvious reason that 93k at the mcg far out weighs 35k or whatever it is in Geelong, they also play home games at the mcg when it suits them financially

So based on this logic 100k on grand final day far outweighs 35 k at the gabba. What are you complaining about?

FWIW i think every team should get a home ground advantage if earnt on gf and final ie - dogs at marvel.

You have no idea what you are talking about. It’s still capable of playing afl games. However, rightly the swans and GWS would just rather play at home.

In comparison to victorian clubs that would be correct thats why the academies exist
Lmao you really have no idea! That is absolutely not why the academies exist.

The academies exist for talent development in non traditional markets.

If they were too offset the so called vic advantage the West Australia and South Australia sides would be entitled to all local talent.

I want the grand final at the mcg you absolute potato, I’m pointing it out that it’s a clear advantage how is this difficult to understand

They have a greater percentage of talent getting drafted ! It’s not hard to work out they aren’t just giving us an academy for the sake of it

“There’s no way he would have developed as he has in the last 12 months if it wasn’t for the Lions academy,” Luke said.

You’re welcome!

Lol your insults prove your intelligence.

I never said it wasn’t an advantage. But playing at an away venue the entire finals series is a bigger disadvantage which the marvel tenants encounter.

I wonder if Collingwood supporters think west coast get within 10 goals of them had that game been at there home the mcg.

Ok so I’m glad we can agree Victorian teams are advantaged by having the grand final for the next 50 years sounds fair

It’s actually not suitable for afl games anymore hasn’t been for a awhile when they stopped playing games there it was fully reconfigured into a permanent rectangular field to make it better for nrl and soccer

What was your club's excuse prior to free agency, FS and NGA?
100 years with 1 premiership and plenty of wooden spoons.

The simple fact is that it's easy for St Kilda to cling on to excuses as to why they are an unsuccessful club.
It's always been a poor club and it always will be.
The excuses are why they are a poor club. Whinge, whinge, whinge instead of looking at themselves and what they can do to improve. Maybe it's not Collingwood and Geelong that get looked after the most, maybe it's them that exploit the existing rules the best instead of whinging about things they can't change.

St. Kilda don't have the same access to Father son picks as other clubs because they haven't had enough sustained success over a period of time and player retention. Yes historically money played a part in this but after a while if you want to improve, the excuses and whinging have to stop and some accountability set in. When your coach is more interested in whinging about the assistance other clubs get that coaching you aren't going anywhere.
