It has also cause significant detriment to the club with his comments about Goodes and Wilson.

The Goodes debacle has tarnished the club for life imo.
Which Goodes debacle? There were 2. The fan and the KingKong gaffe . The first one will hover over us for a while as that personifies (the perception of) our ignorant and intolerant fanbase, the second is Eddie's poor tase that will follow Eddie and Eddie alone.

Yes the stigma will be follow Eddie but also Collingwood FC.

After the first incident, Eddie stated that there is zero tolerence for racism at Collingwood FC. Then less then a week later, Eddie makes those comments about Goodes. Regardless that he in his triple m role at the time, he is still representing Collingwood FC president everytime in public / everytime he opens his mouth.

Not just a Caroline Wilson article anymore.... Hmmmm.....

Agree hiring Gubby reeks of bad judgment, from Eddie... but that's if Allen was honest with them about his role in the Whitfield case to begin with. That's a big if.
There are no big IF's on BF Just take the most negative possible explanation, you get more likes for that...

It's hard to be positive about this situation.

Everyone, everything, has a use by date.
And I think we all know it's here for our Ed.
The issue we face is the vacuum that his reign has created at the top of CFC.
The continual appointments to the board without contested elections have created a situation that means not one of board members is a stand out to replace Ed.
I'm not sure how we move forward from here, but it has become increasingly clear that we have lost our way. And that's from the very top to the very bottom.
We lurch from one crisis to another. We are unable to improve our on field position, just years after a Premiership, and what looked like a bright new era of domination.
And now it appears our off field performance is also suffering.
All the while our brand is being diluted by non football core activities, like netball.
Sorry Ed, but the time has come for you to stand aside and take your place as part of the fabric of our great club.
Unfortunately for us, you seem to have forgotten a succession plan.

Not really that hard. Can someone explain to me what is going to happen.
Club is being disbanded? Relegated to the VFL. All players banned?
Or is it what it is. A club administrator pinged for i a previous role protecting a player instead of throwing him to the ASADA wolves. I can't be too fussed about that.
I am annoyed that Gubby is singled out but that is part of the game.
Whip it into a melting frenzy all you want, the boys are off the Falls Creek and this will be our big anniversary year. With or without Gubby.

Spot on. Gubby is not only a wizz bang operator, the best in the business, he is a goddamn hero. He saved Whitfield 18 months and took one for the team. bit of collateral with Lambert and a couple of picks but small prize to pay for smooth operation.

Any chance Hird can fill in for him over the 12 months.

Meh. Stupid thing to do from Gubby but that is apparently how he operates.
And the Hird reference well....
If the story was 'I have been taking proteine shakes from a mate of mine who is into body building' then yes there a Hird reference is indeed justified.
Whitfield did drugs, spooked and turned to help Trying to hide side effects of substance abuse in a heat of the moment decision is not in the same league as Hird orchestrating doping to improve performance. Those who do think it is, I would like to hear their view on Swanny who is a self confessed test dodger too.
Not that it matters but I do wonder why they didn't self report later on. All would have been clear unless it wasn't a 1st offence?

fkin disgrace if gws dont lose draft picks as well. pies and lions cop a drive by and gws lose a player for 8 weeks who was playing the back pocket.

2 x 2017 first round picks seems fair to me.

Ed and Pert appointed Gubby as Football Manager with the knowledge that he was being investigated by the AFL for hiding a player who had taken drugs. How can you not think that is a big deal? The decision stinks of arrogance with a healthy dose of incompetence.

A couple of other clubs may disagree who lost a year of selections.
They could lose two years of picks anyway and wouldn't hurt their list.
AFL will not be too harsh on their project team unfortunately.
Imagine it was Collingwood no way we would be let off lightly.

They knew that the GWS investigation also cleared him of any wrong doing. In itself good enough imho to hire him in terms of possible risks. And it wasn't news until someone leaked to press.
All reasons to think they thought nothing much would come of it and I can't blame them for that.
Questions galore though. Why did the investigation came to that conclusion. Was information withheld or was the investigation not thorough enough?
And were they only 2 involved? Any coincidence they both left GWS after it happened.
I do complain how Gubby got moved into his position, even without the whole Whitfield saga, that just stinks.
And I mentioned it before, ultra cynical mode maybe they knew it and send him in to clean the deck/desk with an exit strategy in place. Doubt that but then again it is Collingwood.

Collingwood is bigger than Ed, not sure he knows that though. I don't think he will leave peacefully, unfortunately.
The problem is we just need a refresh, anyone with half a brain can see it. We need an exciting new leader to come in and inspire the club. Ed and Pert are two stubborn buggers tho, added to that I think we will make finals next year, which will allow them more time.

Even if you disagree with some of the stuff he says, his media platform and his willingness to use it is underrated and brings us a lot of credibility. For example, the AFL know they have to tread carefully when dealing with us because Ed is prepared to go to war for us in the media. I also reckon it gives us a bit of an "us against them" mentality which is good for firing up the base. No other president (probably in the games history) has had both the platform and the willingness to abuse it in pursuit of their club's interests.

Credibility ? Ed...20 years, one flag.. just saying. I think the 'them' is winning...

The funny thing is you didn't say 1 positive thing.

We've lost a crucial cog of our Football department, full stop. Pretending otherwise only fills your ears with sand

How can it be positive at this stage? Of coruse it is never good to lose someone at that position. How vital Gubby himself was remains to be seen. It is an important position and one that no doubt will be filled. I am just not turning it into a disaster. Not until I know who the replacement is.
There will be some sh!t thrown our way as expected but nothing like last year that would affect the players. And thay is all I really care about.

Getting Maguire to admit he f**ked up would be as likely as Fonzie saying he was wrong

And here it is in a nutshell! Maguire needs to succession plan himself out. He'll always 'promote' our club, its in his dna (he's sort of like our Don King) and yes "he picked the club off the canvass", but his time has come- he's been drinking his own bong water- the club is bigger than him. We're in the news for the wrong reason and it's not always the 'media's fault' wanting to hang the club. Even the Hawks had the sense to get rid of kennett. Writing's been on the wall for about 2-3 years now.

But he was hired to manage the netball team... the same way Malthouse was hired to support Buckley.

Collingwood was bad before Eddie came he did the greatest thing ever and poached the best coach in the land which saw us become a one of the most consistent best clubs for over a decade.
It's hard to see us going forwards rather backwards if he leaves even though we are in a mess.
