It ain't working.

Sometimes competition like that can bring out the best in players. Stanley hasn't changed. Smith looks like his confidence has all but disappeared.

I think it's time for the MC to make a decision, and failing injury, stick with that. At least the mids will get used to the style and ability of one player every week.

I understand where you are coming from.

But I don't think your use of the terms 'style' and 'ability' when discussing these players will go down well here right now, given the current sentiment towards this pair.

And ultimately you can't realistically tell either of them they've got the job for the year. That simply guarantees even less intensity from whichever one is being mindlessly selected.

Although many of us here would wonder whether that was actually possible, I guess.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but for mine right now I think Stanley has shown heaps more. At least he clunks a couple of big grabs a game and occasionally kicks a few goals and teases that he could be a game-breaker. Smith is more ruckman-size and seems to get a few more taps but does basically f@#k-all - its a shame, because he looked a top prospect as a young man.

I mean whose highlight-reel would you prefer to have? At least Stanley has his moments, Smith’s highlight reel would be what exactly?

I think we should waste Stewart in there. Or at least rest Gazza there at the centre bounces.
I'm hoping we bring back Parfitt just to throw him in the ruck too.

Its not the players its the coach and the list manager.

Smith is a no1 ruck, Stanley is an emergency no1 ruck but mainly a ruck/forward.

Smith is the no1 ruck so he plays that role, if Sav is playing then he is the no2 ruck.

If Sav isn't playing then you replace him with Stanley or Buzza.

Smith and Stanley are backup rucks but our club stupidly tried to turn them into a main ruck.

We needed a #1 ruckman, Smith was a good get at the time. Promised a lot at GC and took a while to regain confidence , form and fitness after his ACL.
He has been good for us in 16 and 17.
Stanley should be exactly the modern day prototype back up ruck that teams like to have- athletic, tall, fit, handy KF. He certainly has provided some great moments, but not consistently.
They are both below par together which frustrates everyone, but they are our 2 best options.
Sav may well take over that #2 spot, and maybe Stanley takes the #1 while Smith finds himself again, but the season is long, and we have time for them to prove that the ruck is only a short term issue.
NONE OF THAT IS A COACHING ISSUE.

But why wouldn't the coaches say to Stanley, play ruck in the VFL if they thought of genuinely playing him in the AFL has our number 1 Ruckman? He could of at least played 50% in the ruck with Abbott.. ..
Doesn't make sense to me.....

Abbott gets beaten in the vfl half the world time. He’s not exactly banging the door down. It’s got to be Stanley. Does way more around the ground. Isn’t as soft as butter . Kicks a goal every now and then. Yes he’s essentially a poor mans john mossop. But smith is a poor mans mark Blake.

It's a coaching issue when we go into a game with 0 or 1 ruck or Stanley as no1 ruck over Smith.

How many games have we played with Smith as no1 ruck and a genuine no2 ruck?

we played round 1 with Smith and an unknown Sav who didnt ruck much
round 8 Smith and Sav again

that is it

Tigers win a flag with Nankervis and Grigg
Yesterday they were smashed by NN and Lycett, conceding nearly every contest.
We have won 5/9 games with who we have, and it's not the coach who is out there playing. They know our rucks are poor this year. It's up to the players to get themselves up.
Many are now thinking we go back to Stanley.

I'm sure I read it on here somewhere and it's spot on. Stanley is CHF/ruckman. His number 1 role in my eye is he plays most of the game as a CHF then goes in to the ruck to give the main ruck a rest. Unfortunately Sav has taken that role as he is doing a serviceable job at it. The only small thing is Sav not doing the best is his not kicking a bag of goals in most games, as much as I like. But his only young and will get better in time..
