Welsh had a beuty. Jetta was great too, that's to all those that wanted him to be dropped for this game.

I was knocking both these players during the week, but after tonights game, Welsh was good tonight, very good, his possesions were contested alot of, and Stanton well it was good to see him recieving the ball from behind the ball carrier, and delivering it into the F50, was a very good return to form.

And another one, Monfries showed a bit tonight as hard at it small forward, didnt get much return for his efforts thought.

Stanton's game tonight higlights what frustrate's me the most about him.
He hit some sensational passes into the forwards at times yet other times he kicked the ball on top of blokes heads or to the wrong side so they had no advantage.
Now he is not alone in doing this but it these little things that he needs to sharpen up if he is ever going to be a genuine elite midfielder.
The same applies to Watson.

I noticed that too but at least we can all see what quality disposal Stanton could have each week. Some very nice passes to Lucas, Neagle and Reimers in particular were fantastic. Watson on the other hand, boy oh boy does he frustrate me at times. His kicking was shocking, he shanked about all his kicks and most resulted in either turnovers, or goals. He does great work inside, but he needs to work on his kicking, and quickly. Another problem he has is that the opposition always intercept his handballs and know that he will most likely be looking to give it off

We're very one dimensional at stoppages
Watch a good side like Geelong, they've got set plays to get the ball to Ablett & Corey that involve other guys blocking & shepherding a path
We try and get the ball to Watson who handballs off. More options required - Lonergan & Monfries were pretty good & are getting involved nicely

A few beautiful pieces of play where we split the Eagles open as well, particularly later on when Stanton's fitness shone through.

Stants had 11 possessions in the last quarter and did well to counter the tag of Selwood. He is a running machine.

I thought Stants was fantastic last night... A couple of passes were a little suspect but his delivery into the forward line at times was brilliant, seemed to show very good vision.

Welsh was superb also. I think Knights may have found a niche for him when nearly all looked lost a couple of weeks ago. 14 tackles is unbelievable...

Credit where credit is due. I've been one of Stant's biggest critics in regards to his disposal and defensive pressure.

Last night his disposal was pretty good, but it was his tackling that was most pleasing and didn't it show out. A return of 10 tackles is a great effort.

Well done Stants. :thumbsu:

to be honest im a lot more impressed with welsh then stanton.. our team really lacked a good tagger, welsh has been great the last two weeks and i think the role really suits him, his got enough agro in him and is a very good tackler.. its a real positive for the team and could have saved welsh's career

question is can be play on judd? judds a different player to mitchell and priddis given he has a lot more speed. it will be a big challenge for him

Welsh could save his career by becoming a tagger in the mould of Ling and Cornes.

I can't see any other spot in the side for him anymore.

That would mean that Hocking would struggle to get a gig as Welsh has effectively taken his role.

Hocking was not seen totally as someone you used to put a hard tag on the opposition. If anything the recent sucess of Lonergan would be putting more pressure on Hocking to gain a spot as he would have to replace either Sam or Jobe to get a job in the middle.
Hocking has also played some good games at half back in the VFL.

Stants got beaten today by the Western Bulldog with a face like a Hammerhead shark (Will Minson) in Lou's handball, I still love the kid though.
