PC Star Wars: TOR

Thanks mate, much appreciated!

Do most people play PVE or PVP? I guess PvP could get "annoying" at times?

All MMOs should allow you to create multiple characters across multiple servers. However, if you create a character on 1 server and want to move them to another there is normally a $Fee associated with this.

So feel free to create test characters on multiple servers and check out the differences.

As a new starter though I would recommend... starting on a PvE server (Australian server) first. You can start exploring the game, characters, play styles etc without getting attacked by other players. You can still join in certain PvP events on the PvE server, but they're optional so can jump in and check out PvP when you're ready for it (I forget what the PvP events are called in SWTOR... FlashPoints?)

Once you've experienced the game on and PvE server and tried out some PvP events... you can then decide if you want to create a new character on a PvP server (or transfer you character to a PvP server... again for a $Fee) and stay full time in a PvP world.

HTH

Open world PvP is pretty rare in TOR and one of the reasons I haven't played since around March. It may have changed by now but I'm not aware of any incentives for killing outside of warzones.

This, I loved battlefront and bfront2
This game would have to win some sort of award as the game with the best replay value ever invented, especially the first one...my XBox is in the shop while I'm on holiday, it's driving me nuts, and 8 years after I bought it, all I want to do is go to the Bespin Platforms for the 174638th time, line all the rebels up in that corridor, and see if I can better my best all time score of 105 kills...! The second one gets a bit too easy with all the bonuses, but does anyone else ever deliberately let the opposition kill all your forces until there's only you left, and see how far down you can come back from...?

Being the Star Wars fan that I am, I'm thinking of purchasing this online game.

Free to play model is coming (if it hasn't already) - do not buy it as it is NOT worth it.

This is the second Star Wars MMRPG that has failed abysmally.

Yeah definitly not worth the money, as ive said before, its an online single player game. Really doesnt have the MMO feel like WoW and others.

Sorry to bump the thread

Now this game has gone FTP wondering if anyone has tried it
Downloaded it the other day, am around level 20 atm
Seems pretty good, especially for free
Some of the restrictions are a bit over the top though like the limited xp meaning its a grind to get anywhere and the lack of quickbars(although believe that they may be changing this soon)
Another issue is the amount of players, but having an oceania server is a plus in my opinion and hopefully the numbers pick up now its gone FTP
One of my biggest issues with GW2 is the lack of an oceania server, especially with the combat system
Overall I like it better then LOTRO as another FTP mmorpg and would recommend people try it now its free
If MMORPG's aren't your normal game, I would say its worth trying just for some of the class storylines which in my opinion are better then some single player rpgs I have played.

It became FTP? Is that a bad thing? Signs that it's struggling?

Very bad, they've laid off something like 70% of their staff and just not making the return they thought they would.

Avid Star Wars fan..... This game started out interesting but then was a poor man's MMRPG in almost every respect. the Limitations on the FTP are keeping me well away from considering returning to it.

It's interesting to hear that the MMO elements are average at best. From my understanding, they were going to make the MMO elements so groundbreaking that it would be the new template to work off. People would compare future MMOs to it, similar to games do to WoW.

I followed the first two games (Kotor 1&2) in this series with great interest. Loved them. But I dislike MMO's and was turned way off it when they said it was going to be one. I'm taking a little bit of delight in hearing that it's backfired. :D

I followed this game for ages before launch (played Warhammer and LOVE pvp (I rocked in war btw :P I was a Slayer on Badlands called Palori) and basically the way I saw it was the devs just didnt really know how to make an mmo, an online single player game yes, mmo though, no.
They talked up various parts/features of the game (PVP being the biggest, they said it would be "the best most complete PVP in any MMO ever") and failed badly. Anyone who remembers being Sith and playing NOTHING but huttball over and over and the shitstorm that was Ilum (then when they "fixed" Ilum and borked it more), basically pvp sucked and it was their number 2 big hyped feature (behind the story and VO which was excellent IMO).

Anyway is it worth coming back? I played for I think 2 months after launch (got a mara up to valour 60, few alts and then stopped) and never played since, was considering at least rolling a new toon on an Aussie server, Jedi likely (I presume they are still massively outnumbered?) on the pvp server, now I've checked the server status' and saw that the Aussie pvp server is ALWAYS light, is there a lack of pop? Is F2P worth it and/or is it now a pay2win game? Has PVP improved at all? I play for pvp, the pve is fun and all but what keeps me playing a game is the pvp, warhammer was the best by far IMO (about 12 months after launch, they fixed ALOT of stuff, had the classes about as balanced as you could and the pop was healthy enough, it rocked extremely hard).
Cheers!

It sucks when you get to the higher levels and can't find enough people to do heroics with. Luckily my girlfriend is a Star Wars nut, so we play together and I don't get that problem anymore. Also, I'm fairly sure they're merging some of the servers too.

As an MMO it fails pretty bad. Not really much reason to keep playing once you hit 50 (55 now) and finish all the missions and the like. Only so many times you can replay the flashpoints, too...
