Great stuff - now can we have the reverse - games won with fewer scoring shots? Fascinating reading. I'd also reckon it's a fair bet that Sydney 2012 was the first time a team has won 2 finals matches in one season with fewer scoring shots tham the opposition.

Bit of a weirdburger I'll point out, 18 of the 34 players selected in Melbourne's NAB Cup squad has a first name or surname beginning with J.

Pretty significant if you ask me, even if it's just over 50% of all players selected, to have 18 is pretty amazing.

Now we're waiting for Melbourne to recruit Jarryn Geary, some Jackson's, Jareds and variations on the spelling and Jayden's.

Geelong's last 100 wins have come from 147 fewer matches than Richmond's last 100 wins.
Geelong's last 100 wins start from the 2007 Grand Final, Richmond's begin last century.

The Swans have won their last 100 in one fewer matches than the Crows.

Melbourne have lost their last 100 in 153 fewer matches than Geelong.
Melbourne's last 100 losses start from round 20 2006, Geelong's start last century.

Essendon starting from 1897 took 264 matches to lose their first 100.
West Coast starting from 1987 took 264 matches to lose their first 100.

Melbourne have current won only 4 more matches than did Fitzroy in their final 100.

Wow. That one's pretty damning.

I guess the only thing you can go by is the nature of the losses. I'd dare say there were more close results in Melbourne's 100 losses than Fitzroy's.

Or maybe I'm just remembering Fiztroy's final two, painful seasons.

More than anyone probably needs to know about doubled scores is here:

"The addition of the 2012 results saw Hawthorn replace Geelong from 1983 , Hawthorn replace Carlton from 1965, Collingwood replace Essendon from 1950., and Collingwood replace Carlton from 1928, 1908 and 1903"
