Before 2018, the last time Geelong lost 10 games in a season: 2006.

Thus, this is the first time that Joel Selwood has lost 10 games in a season.

In 14 seasons, the most losses Andrew Mackie played in was 8 in 2012.

In 20 seasons, only in 1979 did Michael Tuck play in 10 or more losses.

3 - CO (1902-03, 1927-30, 1935-36), ME (1939-41, 1955-57, 1959-60), CA (1906-08, 1914-15, 1981-82)

1 - GE (1951-52), AD (1997-98), BR (2001-03)
0 - SK, NM, FO, SY, WC, PA

In the first three finals, all six teams kicked more behinds than goals. So far in the fourth match, both teams have kicked more behinds than goals.

I wonder if there has been an instance where all eight teams have kicked more behinds than goals in the opening week of finals. Obviously we only have to look from 1994 onwards.

I just checked. It has never happened. There also hasn't been an occurrence of all eight teams kicking more goals than behinds in the opening week of finals. I did find this one, though:

2005: 7/8 team kicked more goals than behinds. The only team who failed to kick more goals than behinds was Port, who kicked 11.11.77.

Wasn't it Port who defeated North Melbourne 164-77?

Memo to the AFL: make sure you don’t get Champion Data to review old games because there’s a good chance the stats are wrong.

The Herald Sun engaged Champion Data to review the 1980 Grand Final and disposal tallies are wrong. Geoff Raines had 39 disposals, not 36 as officially recorded. Merv Keane had 27, not 24. etc etc

SANFL 1984. - After 6 rounds, Port Adelaide were 6-0 and on top of the ladder. Norwood were 1-5 and equal last.

Port Adelaide finished the season as minor premiers with a 17-5 record, Norwood won 12 of their last 16 games to finish 13-9 and in 5th position. Port Adelaide won their 2nd semi final convincingly and went through to the grand final. Norwood miraculously made the grand final from an elimination final, defeating South Adelaide 137-90, Central District 105-92 and Glenelg 107-89.

Yes, Norwood managed to do the (almost) impossible, defeating Port Adelaide 100-91 and winning the grand final from 5th. They remain the only club in VFL, AFL, SANFL or WAFL history to achieve this unique feat.

West Torrens were wooden spooner in 1941 and then won the next premiership in 1945 after the war.

From wooden spoon to finals:

Norwood in 1920 finished 4th on the ladder, then lost grand final
Sturt in 1959 finished 3rd then lost 1st semi
Glenelg in 1967 finished 4th then lost 1st semi
Woodville in 1986 finished 4th then lost the preliminary, the SANFL by now using a final 5
