Question to R.R, Sydney defeated Geelong by 13 points and won all four quarters. I think from memory you said the lowest winning margin for a side achieving this feat is 7 points. Would Geelong have participated in a game where one side claimed all four quarters yet won by less than 13 points?

This territory is a bit of a 'cat cluster'.

The 3rd lowest 4 quarter win was 11 points in round 11 1926.

Code:
[B]Sydney/SM[/B] 2.4 5.8 7.10 9.13-67
[B]Geelong [/B] 2.3 5.5 6.6 8.8-56
Geelong also lost in all 4 quarters by 13 points to Carlton, round 4 1957 and also by 13 points to Melbourne round 15, 1944.

1 match won in all 4 quarters by 7 points. (Melbourne v Fitzroy R4 1973)
1 match won by 10 points.
1 match won by 11 points.
3 matches won by 12 points.
4 matches won by 13 points.
4 matches won by 14 points. (1 lost by Geelong.)

A total of 86 matches have been won in all 4 quarters by 4 goals or less.
12 of these have been lost by Geelong - the most of any team. Next most: Carlton 11. (Essendon 2.)

Hello, I'm not really sure how to word what I'm trying to ask (I understand it in my head...), but I'll give it my best shot...

Jamie Cripps kicked 7 goals 2 in his 4 games for St Kilda this year, but being used as either the sub or subbed off in all 4 games, he has a time on ground percentage of only 8% for the entire year (until the end of round 23)

John Butcher has 11 goals 1 from 13% total yearly game time (again, end of round 23)

What are the records for highest score from lowest TOG percentage?

What are the records for highest score from lowest TOG percentage?

The only TOG figures I have are from the AFL Prospectus in terms of average minutes played per game, per season. Based on these, the top ten yearly returns for minutes per goal in recent seasons are:

WB/Footscray's losing streak at Kardinia Park is 12 matches. (Which is still the longest.)
The streak of 22 is "without winning" and includes a draw, round 1 1957.

Although having played and won matches at Kardinia Park before Geelong VFL did*, the Bulldog's 1946-1971 Kardinia Park 'hoodoo' was by the late 1960's the most infamous in the League.

* The Eastern Oval, Kardinia Park (which was its official designation) was home of the ill-starred Geelong Association team 1922-1924. So Hawthorn, Nth Melbourne and the Dogs all played there in their VFA days before Geelong VFL ever did.

2 things

1. RTB I think the table should be minutes per goal (min/g)
2. A STK supporting mate said that Saints have won 25 in a row at Docklands. Is this the record for the ground? What about the other grounds (I know the Kardinia Park record ;) )
I misquoted my mate, apparently Saints have won their past 25 Saturday night games at Docklands.

Its actually 24 - but a good selling point for a Saturday night elimination final there if they can maintain 6th place. Last Sat. night loss at Docklands for the Saints was round 9 2003 v Collingwood by 65 points.

Since then they have an average Docklands Saturday night winning margin of 42 points.

If they play the Swans there in the final Saturday night, it will be the 5th Saturday night meeting between the two since the streak began. (St Kilda next most frequent Saturday night visitors during the streak have been Brisbane and Richmond - 3 matches each.)

if west coast win this weekend, would 17-5 be the best ever record for a team finishing fourth of the ladder??

for that matter would 16-6 be the best ever??

Which led to Richmond's 13-4-1 record being the best to miss the finals.

And the highest match/win percentage of any team finishing 5th -75.0%

391 teams have made the finals with match/win percentages of 75% or less.

43 eventual Premiers have made the finals with match/win percentages of 75% or less.

Richmond 1966 would have made the finals in every other season - including 1934, tipping out Collingwood 13.4-1 by percentage 123.2 to 121.9

Maybe the Tigers deserve 1966 to be replayed, but this time with a 'Final 5'? :)

I could easily look this up but I'll let somebody else enjoy the delight of researching it.

How often, if ever, have the top four teams at the end of the home and away season also been the four previous premier teams, as is the case this season with Collingwood (2010), Geelong (2009 and 2007), Hawthorn (2008) and West Coast (2006).

1956:
Melbourne 1955
Collingwood 1953
Geelong 1952
WB/Footscray 1954

1934
Richmond 1932
Geelong 1931
Collingwood 1930
Sydney/SM 1933

(Done partly by eye - could have missed one)

Thanks fellas for looking into that stat for me. It was Friday arvo when I typed it and I was looking forward to a snooze on the couch.

Is it right to assume the sequence stops at four teams? Thus, the next question would be: How often, if ever, have the top five teams at the end of the home and away season also been the five previous premier teams?

Fortunately I kept my rather complex ad hoc query from the previous question, otherwise I would've let this slide. ;)

1911, 1955 & 1964.

Thanks again for delving deeper.

I suppose you could "reverse the question" and ask: How often, if ever, have the bottom four/five teams at the end of the home and away season also been the four/five previous wooden spooners? (Depending on what the longest sequence is)
