Re: Post your stats questions here

At the moment the bottom 6 teams do not have a win between them, has this occured before?

After Round 3? Not that I can find. Lowest was one win in 1991 (15 teams, 18 matches) and 1995.

Edit: RR's turn to beat me!

Re: Post your stats questions here

Looking at the draw, St Kilda, Richmond, Brisbane Lions, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Gold Coast should all be without a win after Round 4. Only chances are Port over the Crows and maybe North in an upset over at Subi against Freo.

This will all change in Round 5 as miraculously these six sides all play each other. Brisbane Lions v St Kilda, Port Adelaide v Gold Coast and North Melbourne v Richmond.

Interestingly, 4 of the six sides again play each other in Round 6 with North Melbourne v Port Adelaide and Richmond v Brisbane Lions.

My question is, which of the bottom 6 will still be winless after Round 6? (Gold Coast goes without saying). St Kilda should defeat Brisbane, but then again, they could be winless after 8 rounds.

Re: Post your stats questions here

just a quickie.

if a sub doesn't get used this year, does it still count as a game played??

i assume so, otherwise it will throw things slightly out of whack. i.e. totals games played for each team after h&a rounds won't be 484 (does that even matter really??)

Re: Post your stats questions here

Yeah, that was the first thing I wondered when I saw the 1975 stats, and that was my impression too.

Re: Post your stats questions here

I had only a quick search around, but alas,

1 - most draws in a season?
2 - earliest round in a season that the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc draws have occurred?
3 - most draws in a season where no team played in 2 draws?
4 - which teams have played in the most draws?
5 - which combination of teams have played in the most draws against each other?
6 - which players have played in 5 or more draws?

Re: Post your stats questions here

I had only a quick search around, but alas,

1 - most draws in a season? 5 in 1921
2 - earliest round in a season that the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc draws have occurred? 2 draws round 1 1914, 3 draws by round 2 1911, 4 draws by round 5 1921 (the 5th draw came in round 17)
3 - most draws in a season where no team played in 2 draws? Someone else can have this one.
4 - which teams have played in the most draws? Essendon has the most draws - 34 and the highest percentage of matches played as draws (1.49%).
5 - which combination of teams have played in the most draws against each other? Carlton and Sydney/SM have drawn each other 6 times. (I'll leave the rest on 5 times for now.)
6 - which players have played in 5 or more draws? (Bear's business)

Re: Post your stats questions here

Three
1961 (Co,Es,Ge,Me,NM,Fi)
1996 (Br,Es,Ge,Ha,Sy,WB)
2011 (Ca,Es,Me,Ri,St,Sy)

6 - which players have played in 5 or more draws? (Bear's business)

With career matches and match number of last draw. Dustin Fletcher equalled his old man's tally of 5 today.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Nice work.

Next 2 prompted by this post:

How many current players are left that either
1 - played for Fitzroy, or
2 - played against Fitzroy?

ETA: Ron The Bear got a red card? WTF?

Re: Post your stats questions here

There's only Fletcher and Hall, both against. Hall has had 18 opponents, the only current player to do so.

This stat depends on whether you count BB and BL as different teams - which I do, but RTB and RR don't. Although in Hall's case, no games v the Bears.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Was just looking at the 2011 draw and noticed that every time West Coast, Fremantle, Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Gold Coast or Brisbane have a bye this year, their state counterpart is playing home, thus, there is a game every week in Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland ... except for Round 18 where Port have the bye and Adelaide are playing in Melbourne.

So, my questions are:
1 - since 1995, when has a H&A round not had a game in Perth?
2 - since 1997, when has a H&A round not had a game in Adelaide?

* ignore State of Origin weekends and treat split rounds as a single weekend.

Is it possible that (1) has never happened and it's the first time for (2)? That is, Round 18 this year could be the first time since Round 22, 1996 that the city of Adelaide has not had a H&A game?

Re: Post your stats questions here

there's no game at subiaco on round 7 or 17 this year.

it would be impossible for the to be a game there each round this season without eags or docks having an extra home game.

same goes for the adelaide teams - aside from round 18 there's no game in adelaide in round 13.

was wondering last night how many players have ever worn a guernsey number higher than the previous season. not withstanding when it happens with trades (Judd, Ablett) or when a player comes back out of retirement (Lockett)...

Re: Post your stats questions here

^^ sorry guys, I was lazy and just assumed that when both WA or SA teams were playing, one of them would have been playing home.

I think these are the only ones then as every year since 1994 has been just the 22 rounds:
1 - no game in Perth: R7, 2011 (both away); R17, 2011 (both away);
2 - no game in Adelaide: R13, 2011 (both away); R18, 2011 (AC (a), PP (b))

Re: Post your stats questions here

yeah the only time i could ever picture it happening is if one of the clubs sold home games.

i know we haven't seen any... i can't recall freo... adelaide have to much money...

port possibly?? didn't they play richmond in darwin a couple of years ago??

Re: Post your stats questions here

All Port's games in Darwin have been as the away team:

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/teams/padelaide/allgames_vn.html#37

Fairly safe assumption that this year is the first for football-free weekends in SA and WA. 1994 to 2009, every season has had 22 rounds. Each SA and WA side gets 11 home games, so 22 in total, or one game in each state each week.

10 each versus an interstate side = 20 games, plus the two local derbies/showdowns.

Re: Post your stats questions here

After Rounds 2 and 4, Gold Coast were 17th and Brisbane 15th, or put another way, last and 3rd-last.

1. What is the lowest both West Coast and Fremantle have been in the same round? And when?
2. What is the lowest both Adelaide and Port have been in the same round? And when?

Without looking it up, there was a stage in 2001 when West Coast and Fremantle were 15th and 16th.
