Guys, great trade period for us. Don't want to be negative but just want everyone's opinion on SS22's contract status.

Is he a restricted FA?

The man we love called Steele Sidebottom is already being courted by several teams for next season through various media outlets Norf & Aints supposedly targeting Steele with lucrative deals that I don't think we could possibly pay.

Are we facing the possibility of losing Steele after next season? Can we afford to keep him? I bloody hope so.

In my books is a future captain of our club. Would hate to see him go but understand we can't keep them all.

Thoughts?

TBH, if it involves trading for an O'Meara next year, then Sidey will probably go along way getting it done. Sidey (although a big fan) is dispensable.

Don't think we will get Jaeger next yea,r have a feeling the Hawks are going to nab him hence their quiet period this trade period.

Not a future captain of our club in my eyes.

But he is a big game player and they win you Premierships.

I just hope next year doesn't become a circus again (e.g Cloke).

What Pendles did by signing early is what a COLLINGWOOD CAPTAIN should be and is.

The bloke was top 5 in the Copeland despite missing a fair chunk of the season, when he returned after that injury he had an immediate impact, there is no doubting we are a much better side when he is in and up and about.

He's the definition of a big game player and when we make finals he'll be one of our leaders that stands up. Hopefully there will come a day where we won't be debating his worth to the team, he's an absolute champ and I hope he finishes his career with us.

Pie for life, guarantee it.
Swan will retire in the next two years and that'll give us plenty room to sign Steele

Spot on.

Honestly? Wouldn't be opposed to losing him. He'd net us at least a Top 10 draft pick and then most likely some more.

It's not like our midfield will be lacking for depth from 2016 onwards. Hell, I couldn't even find a spot for him in my 22 yesterday.

If given the choice, I'd rather keep him, I just wouldn't be upset if we lost him is what I'm saying.

A few years ago I was all for looking to trade Sidey, but the end of 2014 and that first game this year changed my mind. He is ready to break out to that next level, and would have done so this year had he not been injured/hindered with his broken thumb. I have no doubt that he is a key component of the clubs future planning, and we'd be devastated to lose him. He would almost be as big a loss as Beams, particularly in a new era of interchange restrictions. Endurance players like him will be worth their weight in gold.

Hes an A1 player if he wants to stay, hes a Collingwood Man, sign him up, hes only gonna get more valuable as he is a Premium outside midfielder who can run all day and has his best footy ahead of him

Wouldn't wanna lose him. I think he's quire under rated on this board. Don't think he wants to leave based on his Copeland speech. But players like him will be the big beneficiaries of free agency. Probs a 600-650ish player with us. Someone like Carlton, Brisbane, Melbourne (the terrible teams) wouldn't surprised me if they offered him 800-900 as they need to spend money on something to get the minimum %. Maybe even Richmond will have a go with their "war chest". He might get an offer to good to refuse.

should be pushing for AA selection (and hopefully the Copeland) next year - you don't let those sorts of players go willingly.

I have no concerns regarding Steele.

I can't see him leaving us to join a team like North or Saints.

His BnF speech gave us an indication of his love for the place.

He will stay long term and finish with us.

If he went because of RFA and we had no reasonable chance to stop him then thats just the world we live in. However he is a great player who loves finals. Thats worth a lot. Should do everything we reasonably can to sign him. Would hate seeing him in another jumper

Pie for life. People saying trade him are just wrong. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but that opinion is just extremely poor.

He went out of his at the Copeland to say he was looking forward to many years to come at the Pies.

Suspect the club wanted to get this trade period done, so they would know what the situation is next few years before doing Steele's deal, given that they don't expect there to be difficulties.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a new deal before the season starts next year.
